in many ways it is though...

I'm not thrilled with MLS at the moment (#SaveTheCrew), but the standard of play has improved a lot over the last ten years. European retirees are still making headlines, but the bread and butter of the league's talent are a mix of domestic players, south/central Americans in the prime of their careers, and a smattering of Europeans (like David Villa and Sebastien Giovinco) who joined MLS way before "retirement" age. You still have old European players like Schweinsteiger and Ibra coming in, but to be fair those are players many Premier League teams would still be happy to to have in their squad.

I'm just grateful it's an international weekend. Gives the team another few days to recover.

Gone are the days when I have to worry about West Ham players getting injured in international games!

***International news***

Colombia beat france 3-2... before the match france player Umtiti said Colombia wont win, eating his words now lol Colombia is known for comebacks

At this point i doubt its in Wenger's hands. Especially if he has nothing to stand on (top 4 or trophy)

The board are losing money so they dont really have a choice but to act

They may be losing money, but I am not sure that they feel sufficient incentive as yet to seek to replace Mr Wenger; inertia and complacency have marked their actions to date, and I would still wager a sum of money that Mr Wenger will have a very large say in the timing of his eventual departure.

@Lord Blackadder Crew up in the 82nd 3-1 .... :)

A solid win for Columbus, who continue a 13-game unbeaten streak stretching back to last season. "Pipa" Higuain became the first Columbus Crew player in history to clock up 50 goals and 50 assists in the black and yellow (and the 19th player in MLS history to do so).

Still weird that MLS schedules league matches during international breaks...they REALLY need to figure out how to avoid doing that.

You might be right...time will tell.

Arsenal missed out on Pep Guardiola, who was genuinely interested in joining them - but Wenger was not interested in leaving just yet. Tuchel is still just a rumor, though a believable one.

It's a toss-up at this point; I will not be surprised to see Wenger either go or stay.

USA with a meaningless friendly win against Paraguay. Yawn. We're not going to the WC, we don't have a manager, and the US Soccer elections just yielded another crop of the same good 'ol boys who won't change anything.

With that being said, Columbus Crew goalkeeper Zack Steffen started between the sticks for USA - he could become a regular in that role, and after watching him play for the Crew I think he deserves it.

Is that why he wasn't playing this weekend for the Crew?

At least I don't think I saw him playing for us...

Did Novakovich get any game time? He's on loan in Holland from Reading and seems to be doing quite well. Our forward options are pretty limited, so I would hope he gets a chance next season (whether we're in the Championship or League One...).

Hopefully our new manager Paul Clement will be keeping a close eye, he really looks like a bright prospect from the brief glimpses I've seen.

Yep, he was in the USMNT camp. Jon Kempen played in goal for Columbus against DC, and he did OK.

He was subbed in towards the end. Too early to judge but he seems to have real potential.

So if we are not going to win the world-cup....which are your 3 favourites to win the wc in russia?
mine are:
Belgium, Brasil, France

Zaha starts for Palace which is disappointing for us as I he makes the difference. They are currently a goal up.

We face Southampton in a must win game for both teams. We have to play Man City, Arsenal and Chelsea yet, so we need to win these 6 pointers.
I fear that if we go a goal down there will be trouble again.
The police will be inside the stadium this week, but I'm really hoping the talking points are the football.
