I think he may have been unfit with us, as well.

But, at the end of the day, those overpaid professionals - some of whom lead very pampered lives indeed, even in less well performing - or, less fashionable - clubs - must want to play and must want to prove themselves.
Some do. Some are just happy to draw a wage.

Well, they still must earn their (bloated) wage, even if all they want to do is draw it; the entitlement culture among some footballers is extraordinary - and then you encounter genuinely gifted and decent individuals such as Mo Salah who is both a fantastic role model and an amazingly talented player, and who restores your faith (somewhat).

However, re West Ham, it is too easy - very facile - to blame managers and the stadium for last season's failures and underperformance; but, to my mind, too many of the players didn't deliver over the course of the season.

nevertheless, I expect that they will have the spotlight uncomfortably shone on them once Manuel Pellegrini makes an appearance and starts holding individuals to account for their performance on the field of play (and on the training ground).

Even if the manager comes in and turns the players into model professionals, the ownership situation at West Ham is still disastrous....

This is perfectly true, and I am in complete agreement with you - the Guardian had some pointed remarks in today's edition on that very matter - but, given that the fans (and the media) tend to focus on the manager, for now, I will simply comment that I think the appointment of Mr Pellegrini an excellent one (and better than West Ham could have hoped for or possibly deserved, in the circumstances).

I wish him luck, but think that between fans, players, and owners, he will have his work cut out.

Agreed. But how many of the clubs in the Premier League have desirable owners? Not many.

Certainly none of them are saints. The amount of money required to buy a team these days pretty much guarantees all owners will be tycoons, oligarchs or potentates with entire racks of skeletons in their closets and a personality consisting of a blend of ruthlessness, greed, and narcissism.

Too true.

Ancelotti appointed as Napoli boss which likely means Sarri is headed to Chelsea. Wonder whats next for Conte.

Mentally, Conte has been disengaged for months, if not most of the season - his dissatisfaction was writ large for ages. Winning the FA Cup in those circumstances was no mean achievement.
