I think Rooney was treated quite poorly at Man U. Played out of position and then basically discarded as surplus to requirements. His best response would be to bang in 25+ for his new club. And I wouldn't be surprised if he did. I think Everton have bought well.

Agreed.

Actually, I suspect that both Wayne Rooney and Jordan Pickford will prove to have been outstanding buys for Everton.
[doublepost=1503349472][/doublepost]How interesting.

One goal apiece, and ten men each.........all square, then. Everton deserved their point, and well done to Manchester City for pursuing the game ferociously with ten men when one goal down........

Hm. Master Rooney (playing for Everton - his pace has long slowed, but his reading of the game, skill and experience are seem to be a considerable asset for Everton) has just scored for Everton - against the run of play and against the stars and firepower of Manchester City.

Now, this will be interesting.

We hope Rooney finishes well.

Can't say I am rooting for Rooney, for multiple reasons which ought to be obvious! But it certainly seems that he might have a bit of a renaissance at Everton.

The thing about Ibra is he missed his far share of chances last season. So far, Lukaku is looking much more clinical, Pogba has the freedom to attack more now with Matic covering behind him, and the attacking moves are much faster-paced. It's early days and the level of competition hasn't been great, but I'm a bit surprised United has jelled so well without Herrera playing.

Looks like Ibra will be back after he completes his rehab from the knee surgery. A very nice option to come off the bench.

Need a win tonight. Don't think I could take the shame of loosing to Cheltenham!

Rooney' retirment was a bit of a surprise from international. I'd have thought he might have fancied his chances now he's back playing regularly for a team and scoring.

Agree, to a large extent.

On his current form, he might have had some kind of hope of a sort of Swan Song; I'm glad that Gareth Southgate phoned him, but, on balance, it was probably the right decision for Rooney to have turned the offer of a squad place down.

Indeed.

Remind me again: Exactly how many teams qualify from each of these groups?

And Celtic, bless them, look as though they, too, may face a bit of a challenge.

2. Looks bleak for Spurs I think.

That said once you are in the group stages they are the top teams in Europe, so should all be tough games.

Also Zlatan has resigned for Man U. (not breaking news). Actually seeing as he has been training there for weeks, quite predictable news. But still worth having as a player. Just don't think he'll see the starting 11 many times this time around.

Thanks; and logic suggests that it should be harder for the team that qualifies second in each group?

Yes, agreed. Tough draw for Spurs.

But also - to be quite frank - agreed, that once you are through to the knock-out stages all of the games will be tough.

Very easy draws for the Manchester clubs - a free pass to the knockout stages, really.

Liverpool also got a pretty favorable draw but have a much thinner squad, I can see them struggling if any starters get injured (especially if Coutinho is sold).

Chelsea have a tougher group but I'd still be surprised if they failed to finish on top.

Tottenham are screwed.
