Indeed. Starting the season at such a disadvantage is going to make it a very long and difficult year.

I do wonder whether there is a greater appetite for the imposition of sanctions for breaching financial rules, or for financial irregularities, - or whether they are imposed more readily - on less powerful clubs in the lower divisions, than on more powerful, popular & better resourced clubs.

I suspect they don't have as good lawyers.

Perhaps, but I also suspect a greater hesitation on the part of administrative or governing bodies to impose such sanctions, or penalties, as lie within their power, on those who transgress, or breach financial regulations, who happen to be powerful, popular, with both a global reach (re fans) & extensive resources (and possibly unsavoury ownership models)..

@Apple fanboy @Scepticalscribe - Thanks.

At least we weren't relegated... just yet anyway...

Best of luck.

One rule for the rich clubs, a different rule for everyone else. I haven't read up closely on Wednesday's financial dealings - they may have violated the rules, and if so fair enough. But how am I supposed to support the enforcement of FFP-type rules against a club like Wednesday when we all know City cheated, got away with it, and will probably continue to cheat? It's not just unfair, it's an egregious double standard.

What's most depressing is how many Man City fans now love to hate UEFA. Blind tribalism.

Couldn't agree more.

While I had long thought that the penalty of two years imposed on City would have been reduced on appeal (I had assumed that the appeal would have resulted in the imposition of a one year ban, a sort of balancing of a reluctant recognition of the gravity of the offence but one yet ameliorated by the imposition of a sanction deemed less severe than it might otherwise have been), I never thought that it would have been dismissed entirely.

Appalling.

Elsewhere, Chelsea lead Arsenal by a goal to nil in the FA Cup Final.

Yes, unfortunately, (for those who play against him) this is very true.

Arsenal have been awarded a penalty, and have converted it, the score now standing at one all.

I think David Luiz is going to have something to say before it's over. He's always ready to put on his clown shoes and cue the Benny Hill music...

I will not rest content, let alone comfortable, until this game has concluded. Preferably with an Arsenal victory.

Even though the Gunners now lead by two goals to one, I cannot relax.

Chelsea had terrible luck with injuries, Xhaka flopped and conned the ref on the red card, and Frank's men just gave up when the game was still tight. Arsenal picked the right day to play Chelsea. I hope Pulisic's hammy is not badly torn, and I hope Pedro is OK.

To be fair to the Gunners, Aubameyang scored a great winner and David Luiz kept himself out of the highlight reel - which is typically a good thing. A big feather in Arteta's cap, he has salvaged a season that seemed to be going nowhere just a few months ago.

Onwards to the Europa League! ;)

Relax! Congratulations. Another trophy and year of European football secured.

Thank you.

That is a relief, and credit to Mikel Arteta.

Chelsea were very unfortunate with injuries, but Arsenal imposed themselves on the game & scored when it mattered.

Moreover, while it can be argued that the red card they (Chelsea) received was unfortunate, I would also make the case that they were exceptionally fortunate not to have received a red card earlier, when Arsenal were awarded a penalty.

True, though Martinez appeared to handle otuside his area at one point. The ref had a bad day, but Arsenal were the better team and I would not call this a lucky win. Chelsea just lost their will to fight after a few things went against them, and Arsenal just about avoided making any of the big mistakes that have plagued them at times.

I will say this though - Arsenal NEED Aubameyang...whatever he wants to stay, give it to him!!!!

Now I have to listen to my Arsenal-supporting friend crow about this after he spent the last few weeks wondering aloud if the FA Cup was really that important. Fickle.

Not I.

Actually, I have always thought that the FA Cup is important, and that is not just because Arsenal's record in the FA Cup (14 wins, 21 finals - itself a record) is impressive, for - in general - they are a good cup side.

Not only is it the oldest (soccer/football) cup competition in the world, - and I like the tradition & history that it trails, - but I must say that I developed a deep dislike for the disrespectful arrogance of Manchester United the year that they thought that they were above competing for the FA Cup, and withdraw from the competition.

And I am delighted for Mikel Arteta.

A very good victory, and a lot of character displayed by Arsenal.

Agree completely re Aubameyang; whatever his price, we should simply consider paying it, and produce the necessary chequebook.

A rather impressive win from us yesterday. Even more so, since we had to come from behind to do so.
But, honestly, that goal from Aubameyang. Seriously, sending Kurt Zouma the wrong way, and the chip. And once again, Martinez saving us quite a few times!?!

Well, here we are, 14 times FA Cup winners, with our Captain, our number 14, lifting the trophy.

PS: I know dropping the trophy seemed really bad. But, I liked how they laughed about it, and carried on. Like a Boss...

Looks like a coup for Man Utd to bring in Sancho.

A coup of sorts...the next time OGS acts like a plucky underdog under seige from a hostile media at a presser, I'd like to remind him that he has the second most expensive squad on Earth and is about to be given a one hundred million Euro player to work with over and above that...

So much for COVID depressing the transfer market, at least at the top of the football financial food chain!
