So now all England need to do is beat an inferior Denmark team at Wembley. Then they're in a final - also at Wembley, in front of their own fans and basically none of the opposition fans. What could possibly go wrong? A doddle. :D

I should add two things - One, had Spain won they would have deserved it, this match was balanced perfectly and settled basically randomly through pens. Two, if any Spain fans feel like blaming Morata they should turn the Big Finger of Blame on themselves...maybe if they hadn't, you know, threatened his family during the tournament and instead supported him he'd have had more confidence and it would be a story of redemption rather than failure.

The match lost its impetus after FT. Italy in particular looked exhausted, but they had the mental and emotional strength to get through 120 minutes and nail (almost) all their penalties.

Yeah, I feel terrible for Morata. I never cared for him as a player, but he's supposedly a really good guy off the pitch. I felt great when he scored the equalizer, but my heart sank when he whiffed his penalty.

Time to start getting excited / nervous for tomorrow's match.

I thought the match was better than I thought it was going to be. The referring helped a lot. Keeping the game going.
Always a bad way to go out of a tournament, penalties. But after 120 minutes you have to decide it one way.

I’m not going to be drawn in England v Italy. Our next game is Denmark. We need to win that before we can look ahead.

I felt like Italy took their foot off the gas a little after they scored, and never showed quite the same level of attacking intent. Maybe some of that was fatigue, but Italy's instinct is always to bunker in these circumstances.

Spain created enough chances to win it outright and didn't take them - but that's been the story of their tournament really.
