Everton had drawn 0-0 with Aston Villa earlier. If Everton had won, they would have been above Liverpool by a point.

Half-time at the Man Utd v Liverpool game (1-2).
Liverpool had snuck in a late goal just before half time.

Brace youselves, Firmino just scored a second goal (1-3).
Utd have their work cut out for them.

Liverpool won 4-2.
They are fifth in the table (60 points) with a game in hand.
Chelsea are 4th at 64 points - if Liverpool win their game at hand, it could be a real fight for 4th place.
This also make it harder for West Ham to get fourth place - unfortunately.

Totally unexpected for my part. Man Utd have been in good form of late, and Liverpool's recent record at OT is pretty mediocre. Mind you, I never doubted Liverpools' ability on paper to give Man Utd a tough match, but the last several performances have not impressed me - the team have been exhausted after the last two seasons and this season's injury issues. Credit to Klopp for motivating the team to perform closer to their potential than they have been doing. I could suggest that Maguire's absence was a significant factor in the result, but nobody wants to hear a Liverpool fan talk about how the loss of one's key center back can cost points. ;)

Bad luck AFB, though if Chelsea win their remaining games our 'battle' for fourth will have turned out to have been illusory anyway. But even so, Europe still beckons for your boys.

You'll get your wish. Liverpool are exhausted and demoralized.
Not so.

Liverpool destroyed Manchester United this evening.

The absence of Virgil van Dijk has been crucial for Liverpool this season; that, plus the fact that it is almost impossible to sustain the standard tht Liverpool have maintained over the past three exceptional seasons (where they were, respectively, CL finalists, CL champions, and PL champions).

A top four spot is still possible; and Chelsea - while very good - are not yet as good as they can be.

Impossible I’d say. We need to win all our remaining games to get into Europe and hope others slip up.

Columbus' owners have released a statement after the fan backlash over the recent rebrand. They take a dryly conciliatory tone, promise nothing specific, but the general gist is that there will be dialogue with fan groups and I hope to see them walk back on some of the changes.

Since the announcement it has been revealed that several members of the Nordecke were privy to the incoming changes and were consulted. They were under a gag order but wrote an internal report for the club labeling the rebrand as 'catastrophic.' Somehow their report was not passed all the way up the chain, or possibly (more likely) downplayed or even ignored. So the club had clear evidence, from representatives of the club's largest and best-organized fan group, that there could be major blowback - and yet they failed to act on that. The 'Save the Crew' movement has led to the club's fans being much better organized and supporters' groups include a lot of people who are savvy professionals in their day jobs, so this is not some drunken rabble we are talking about here.

It was a massively tone-deaf move, but there is still plenty of opportunity to mend fences. We shall see. Fans have great power when they organize and use their own professional skills to counteract misbehaving owners or corrupt/useless governing bodies. It's not easy but it can and does work.
Wait.

What?

What was the "rebrand"?

Ahh... clicked the link and got the deets on the rebrand.

Very poor stuff from United yesterday. They started off well enough, but then predictably started giving up silly goals. It seems the oft-maligned Harry Maguire was sorely missed. Too many matches in too few days, physical and mental fatigue clearly caught up with them.

I still like Eric Bailly and hope he comes good, but he's been dreadful since he somewhat unexpectedly signed a contract extension. Granted he has not been able to play much and get any kind of rhythm, but clearly United still has to invest in another starting caliber CB this summer. Where that leaves Axel Tuanzebe is uncertain. Maybe he needs another loan, maybe he just won't get the minutes at United and should move on.

And good lord, Fred is a huge liability out there. It's mind boggling to think United are likely to finish second in the league with Fred starting. How can a central midfielder be such an awful passer of the ball? Signing a top class CDM is critical. James Garner looked great at Forest, but is probably not ready to step in to United's first team just yet.

Signing Sancho would be great, but would be kind of a luxury move at this point. Thank goodness Cavani re-upped for another season. I honestly never watched him play much at Napoli or PSG, but he is still top class on his day.

The new logo is AWFUL. The club claimed that the round crest looked too generic with many other MLS teams also having a round crest. There is a kernel of an argument there but they have dropped a crest that most people liked for one that EVERYONE hates. And we just had a rebrand in 2014.

Still waiting to see how this all pans out, I think the owners are reconsidering some of this but in any case the terrible new crest has got to go. I will never buy a piece of merch with that abomination on it.

Maguire is not a bad player, far from it, but of course the question with him has always been whether he can become a great player. And the question remains open. But even so there is no doubt Man Utd's defense is substantially weakened without him.

Poor old Fred. He's never been liked much and yet he's been there for three seasons now.

It is horrible.

The one they just made a couple of years ago was great!

Really enjoying the crowd at the FA Cup final. Seems so normal and better than the canned stuff they have been using.
Chelsea had the early pressure, but Leicester are holding there own.
Plenty of effort but cagey. Leicester are avoiding playing in the midfield, relying mostly on vertical play towards Vardy. Chelsea are hogging the ball but doing little with it so far, apart from a couple moments. Losing Johnny Evans after half an hour disrupted Leicester's rhythm somewhat. Chelsea have the more talented individual players, so I expect them to win on an individual goal or two as Leicester's defenders tire. Would be less upset about that if Pulisic comes on and does the scoring.

On the other had, you can never count Vardy out. If Chelsea make any mistakes he will be ready to punish them.

The crowd is indeed nice. 21k fans or so if I heard correctly, so like an MLS match. ;)

Yes hardly a capacity crowd, but still good to hear not only the cheers, but also the other noises.
Yes shame about Evans. Still you’d think Mount will continue to cause problems. Good from a English perspective with the Euros a few weeks away.

Hopefully there will be goals in the second half of the FA Cup final (mostly for Leicester).

Southampton beat Fulham 3-1.

Leeds thrashed Burnley 4-0 - Rodrigo (a sub) scored 2 goals within 127 seconds.
