Hmm.

Not terribly surprised, to be perfectly candid.

I would imagine that - despite having stated that - if possible - he would have liked to have been a part of the new arrangement - he was informed, in no uncertain terms, that no role (of the sort that he may have hoped for) was envisaged for him, or for those who worked with him.

It would seem to me that a rather vigorous new broom might be taking the helm at Manchester United, - it is natural for Ruben Amorim to wish to be surrounded by (and supported by) his own people - as the coaching staff who assisted Ruud van Nistelrooy will also depart when he does.

He didn't make things easy for him. Nobody would want someone that wants your own job breathing on your back.

Perhaps there are cultural differences here as he is Dutch but from my POV he seemed a bit too happy in that place.

He will probably have his chance in due time.

Fair enough.

And, moreover, United's owners will be able to make the argument that they have already gone down the route of recruiting a talented (and much loved) former player as manager (with the appointment of OGS) and have no intention of revisiting those criteria (not least, because the experiment wasn't terribly successful) with this latest appointment.

The one thing that cannot be questioned with regards to OGS is with regards to his time when as interim manager. His 19 games in charge produced the best results of any United manager the club has ever had and that is a fact.
19 games, 14 wins, 2 draws, 3 loses

1) The only manager to win first 6 league games in a row. He beat the record of 5 held by Sir Matt Busby. A record that had stood for 73 years
2) The only manager who went 15 games unbeaten in any competition from day one of starting the job.
3) Since taking over, OGS picked up 25 points, this was more points than any other manager has managed in their first nine games in charge of a single club in the Premier League.
4) Set a record of 8 consecutive away victories in all competitions

No interim EPL manager has been able to better him. OGS was given the job full time and it immediately went all down hill from there.

The stats OGS produced at United when as interim manager are stats any interim or full time manager would love to have. Only OGS knows why he was not able to continue his winning ways when he was given the job full time.

OGS get's a lot of grief from fans and critics because of his time as United manager but his time as interim manager, the results he produced are what other managers can only dream of. It is just a shame he was not able for it to continue.

That would equivalent of a F1 team giving a rookie driver a start because of injury to one of their main drivers. The rookie wins their first 6 races in a row, get's the top fastest lap times from 5 of those 6 races, get's given the job full time because the main driver is out for the season due to injury and then suddenly it all goes wrong, the rookie driver comes in 15 or below in his next 4 races.

Therefore, my view is that recruiting a former player as your manager can work, OGS proved that in his 19 games in charge. Why it went wrong only OGS can tell us that.

Sometimes the freshness, the focus, the need to show usefulness, the circling the wagons, us against the world mentality gives excellent short term results.
But then you have to plan beyond a few months, get new players, motivate the ones that feel safe again, discover youth talents, establish tactical systems more sophisticated than everybody running 101% and then the wheels start to come off.

This referee issue doing the rounds in the sport media just goes to show how disgraceful the media are in that they are not reporting the full issue surrounding why the referee said what he said in the video. The Metro appears to be the only media outlet reporting the issue in full (both sides of the story).

According to the news article, his comments are in relation to a game he refereed between Burnley v Liverpool where during the game he came under verbal attack from both Klopp and Andy Robertson, with the ref's microphone picking up the foul mouthed swearing coming from Robertson.

At the end of the day the referee is only human like the rest of us and will let off steam. I am sure there are many out there who have been in the exact same situation as the referee, been verbally attacked by numerous people only to then when in private vent their anger and/or frustration.

The ref felt he was treated badly by Klopp and the Liverpool players (not all of them) and made his feelings known in private. The wording he used maybe unpleasant but he should have a right to say it.

Will watch Manchester City - Hammarby, today.
Hammarby needs some support 🙌🏼
Hope they will do better then against Barça last match, that ended 8-0 in Spain.
They still got into the CLW, and will grow lots out of it.

Then the best players will leave to a better leaugue then the Swedish, as usual.
But that's footballs-life. Hope they will defend themselves better tonight though.

Always looks forward to watch Miedema as well.

Is a good read :)

Honestly the tone of and support of Women's football goes extremely slow in the financial area for smaller clubs.
That articel could've been written 20-30 yrs ago
It happens something though when clubs place well or win bigger tournaments, and the money flows into the club.

Hejja Bajen ♥️⚽️

"I have three daughters - I want them to have the same dreams as the boys," says Sandstrom.
"My heart is burning for equality in football. I want the women's teams to play for the same amount of people and I want to have big singing stands with capos, drums and big tifos. In Hammarby, female players can live that dream right now."

This ^ ❤️❤️❤️

Hammarby lost against Manchester City with 2-0.
But they played pretty good and City wasn't superior in any way.
No Miedema playing either, still issues with the effects on her ACL surgery - made some minor correction recently I heard. Really hope she heals 100% from it.
But MCity indeed had Bunny Shaw, real good powerful player from Jamaica. Pleasant watch indeed.

I would hate to have a friend like the referee David Coote has because apparently the videos are coming from an anonymous friend of his according to the Sun newspaper.

The report from The Sun also claims an anonymous friend of Coote’s has revealed the details of other clips sent to him by the referee, some purporting to have made derogatory marks over Liverpool player Andy Robertson and Everton.

This so-called friend of his is seriously putting the hurt on Coote. For a friend to do that I can only assume they must have had a falling out at some point and now the friend wants to give Coote some payback.

The whole thing just confirmed what we already knew. Refs in this country are incompetent and far from neutral. They will also cover for each other until they can’t anymore.

I think it would be extremely difficult for the FA to find ref's that are not fan's of the game.

Its ok to be a fan of the game but not prejudiced/biased towards teams you're refereeing. Regardless of past incident. If not, then declare it and recluse yourself.

While I have had major issues with the officiating and VAR since our promotion to the Premier League (It's frankly awful and incredible inconsistent), The witch hunt of David Coote particularly from The Sun is ridiculous. Yes he has made mistakes but with each story that comes out, it feels like it could only end one way and it won't be a happy ending.

The Hillsborough disaster is everything one needs to know about how relentless Liverpool fans can be when they feel they have been wronged. Ever since that incident Liverpool fan's feel no one is allowed to say a bad word against Liverpool and their fans, never ever and this ref issue is evidence of that. He bad mouths Liverpool and now there are elements that have it in for him hence the 2nd video of him snorting 'white stuff'.

Question: Where do you lot stand on club players being 'injured' and therefore deciding to pull out of playing for their country? This is because I was reading a news article by ex-Arsenal player Ian Wright where he saying he supports all the England players that pulled out of squad for the Greece game due to 'injury' because of the comments England's captain Harry Kane made about the players pulling out of the squad due to 'injury'.

For those can access the page: https://metro.co.uk/2024/11/14/ian-...-stars-comments-backfire-greece-win-21997493/

Basically it stems from Harry Kane saying he does not like it that 8 senior senior first pick players pulled out of the squad for the game against Greece. This is what Kane said (very debatable subject, club before country or visa versa)

With games against Greece and Ireland serving as the final matches of Carsley’s short reign as interim boss before the arrival of Thomas Tuchel in January, there is also a palpable lack of excitement around the fixtures.

But Three Lions captain Kane has expressed his disappointment over the situation, fearing a culture of togetherness fostered by former manager Gareth Southgate may be chipping away.

‘The joy to play for England – he [Southgate] brought that back,’ Kane told ITV. ‘Every camp people were excited to come, every camp people wanted to play for England.

‘That’s the most important thing. England comes before anything. England comes before club. England, it’s is the most important thing you play as a professional footballer. Gareth was hot on that.

‘He wasn’t afraid to make decisions if that started to drift from certain players. It’s a shame this week. Obviously it’s a tough period of the season.

‘Maybe there’s been a little taking advantage of that. I don’t really like it if I’m totally honest. England comes before anything, before any club situation.’

Ian Wright was not happy with what Kane said, defending the 8 players who left the squad citing 'injury'. Now here is the thing. Days gone by I am pretty sure all of us have been aware of national team players would do anything they could to play, even if it meant crawling out of their death bed to do so. Day's gone by we have seen desire from players that are injured, going the press pleading that they want to be in the squad because doing so means so much to them. Yes I understand very much that there are some injuries than cannot be excused but we all know there are players that have played who have slight knocks, sprains and pains. Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not. Classic case being Harry Kane in the Euro's playing whilst knowing he has a bad back, it did not work. But that is the managers fault yes? picking a player that is carrying an injury rather than a 100% fully fit player. Again classic case being Luke Shaw in the Euro's.

But the thing with these 8 players ruling themselves out of the squad game against Greece, I don't think any of them was carrying a serious injury, all they had was slight knocks, things that a player would have shrugged off to play for the national team. Now it appears when a player has a slight knock they have no desire to play for the national team. This in my opinion is what Harry Kane is pointing out.

Things have certainly changed. So, if a player gets a slight knock, is it the player doing it saying they do not want to play for the national team because they are injured or is it their club saying the player is not to play because they are injured? From what I understand, even if a player is 'injured', the national team can still call them up for national duty and it is then up to the national team's medical team to decide if the player can play or not. This is done for injures that are not considered serious.

The national team medical staff should decide who is injured.
An injured player should present himself and then, if appropriate after evaluation, be released.
Of course there are more straight forward situations (surgery last week for example) but those would be decided between the club and the national team medical staff and wouldn't even be called.
Sometimes these situations are a symptom of deeper issues like the ones on the Portuguese national team where some players decided to end their national career and everybody knows why but nobody does anything or even talks about it.
The issue of course is a player that everything revolves around him, always has to play, never is benched and never at fault for anything. Not hard to guess who.
