And - for this fleeting moment, at least - Arsenal are now top of the table this evening, though, with Liverpool travelling to Chelsea to play them later on, the gods alone know how long this may last.

United actually turned up today against an in-form Sunderland, who is nonetheless still a newly-promoted team. Good debut for Senne Lammens in goal — surely having a non-liability between the posts will help. A tougher test to follow at Anfield next.

A good victory for United, as Sunderland are no longer the clowns of old, but, instead, are a well put together, and intelligently recruited, and seriously focussed team.

Thats 3 defeats in a row for Liverpool against a weakened Chelsea side (although Liverpool also have their own injuries).

2 of the 3 defeats happening in injury time.

Perhaps 'Pool are missing a Wijnaldum and Henderson to protect the back four. Slot brought on Endo but didn't matter

Kerkez has been a mixed bag. And arguably not an uprade on Robertson so far.

I'd also argue Isak hasn't moved the needle for 'Pool. Although its very early days and he technically assisted for the Gakpo goal. But to me Ekitike has actually hit the ground running and made a difference.

All of what you say is true, but I would go further; Liverpool miss TAA, who was a steady and reliable source of ball supply (in the form of elegant, excellent, exceptionally precise passes) to Salah, who looks a lot less lethal in his absence.

Regression to the mean. I’m happy for Arsenal to be in the media spotlight at the top for now. All the title challengers look flawed this season, so we’ll hopefully have a closer, more exciting campaign.

Alisson is a significant loss, even if Mamardashvili seems to be an able deputy. we’ll miss him for the matches against the Manchester clubs and Real Madrid in Europe.

You never know what you’ll get with Chelsea. They seem to be run so poorly, yet they always have a gigantic, talented squad that can beat anyone on the day. Leaking two goals or more a game is still a problem for Liverpool.

Feeling like Mason Mount may be the key player to make Amorim's system work. His hard work and pressing from the left-sided 10 role grants Bruno more freedom on the ball, and he does a good job linking midfield and attack. The downside is you have to drop Cunha or Sesko — Mbeumo should be an unquestioned starter as the right-sided 10.

This is probably as good a time as any to go to Anfield, not that I'm getting my hopes up.

Hard to say what happens next. Slot and the squad will be under a lot of pressure to get a result. But at the moment they are still a little defensively ropey, and the goals have dried up. With all the on-paper firepower in the team logic dictates the goals will come again, but that might not be this week. More important to me would be a good defensive performance.

Liverpool losing 3 games on the trot. A game against their ole enemy United, will that give them the gusto to go for a win and get a 9-0 score line in their favor? lol

Both teams have historically upped their game for this derby, so regardless of the outcome I expect to see a hard fought match.

The MASSIVE haven't been paid in over a month... someone want to double check me on that?
It sounds like the EFL are imposing punishments again, which hurt the club more than the owners.

It's not going to happen, but there should be a mechanism for taking clubs away from owners who fail to meet their obligations under certain metrics. Club owners need to be treated more like stewards. If they are running the club into the ground, they lose the club.

Only independent administration of professional leagues would permit this, but other owners have too much money sunk into the leagues to ever voluntarily surrender their power. They'd rather see clubs get wound up than allow independent administration.

Classy people

Less classy is the guy in the back wearing a Man United shirt. I would never go to an international game wearing my clubs football shirt. It would be either the teams national shirt (if i could afford one) or just a normal t-shirt. That is just my opinion and I respect that all opinions are different.

So she was paying tribute?
If you notice she is holding a Portuguese jersey.

Near the numbers there is the symbol of the Portuguese Federation (which is a Cross of Christ from the Order of Christ which itself was formed by exiled Templar Knights). It's even the new 2025 Puma model.

If that is correct then it is so wrong in my opinion. Age does not factor into my opinion and that is no one should be holding the shirt of a rival international team at a football match, not even if it's a tribute. Yes by all means hold the players club shirt but not their international one when at an international game.

Is my opinion controversial, in today's society yes it is but I am of the opinion there are limits to what people should and should not do.

Let's agree to differ.

I thought it a classy, dignified and respectful gesture, one to be applauded.

And, writing as a woman, I also like the fact that there are so many female fans present, something that is wonderful to see and would have been something of a rarity when I was a child (but my dad, in fairness, always brought both my brothers and I to matches if - and when - we wished).

I'm not that strict.
I would have no problem wearing or holding another country jersey if I respected or wanted to honour it or some person for some reason.
It wouldn't diminish my own identify.
