I understand the need to rotate. But i'm not sure playing to LBs incl Kerkez was the right move. And not having any of his big guns on the bench suggest a deliberate sacrifice of the competition.

Slot should've aimed to stop the rut and play a stronger team. Now its 6 defeats on the bounce. And if loses against Villa then gd luck to him.

Liverpool need 2 new CBs and DM in January

But the damage might already be done by then.

Liverpool field a very weakened side against Crystal Palace and lose 3-0. Slot's reason is that he wanted to rest many of his first team players. It will be interesting to see what the UK media say about this because when Ferguson used to do this, the press went mad, accusing Ferguson of all sorts of things. The FA would get wind of it then fine the club thousands for breaking FA rules because FA rules state that a club must field the best team for a match.

I wonder if the FA will treat Liverpool the same way they used to treat Ferguson and Man United regarding fielding a weakened side.

You have to rotate the squad. There were still some good players on the field, like Mac Allister, Chiesa and Kerkez. But it’s true the Carabao Cup is not a priority, and next weekend there are Premier League matches and midweek Champions League matches. In a way it eases the fixture congestion, to go out of the Carabao Cup now.

Listening to Slot complain about injuries and only having 16-17 fit players makes me cross. Like when Arteta made similar complaints last year.

A bit like if Tim Cook complaining he doesn’t have as much money as Jeff Bazos.

Most clubs in the world would be happy to have their squads/problems.

Slot's post-match reactions have been giving Arteta a run for his money

Complaining about long balls, direct plays, then saying he has a thin squad to justify his approach to the EFL cup. After spending half a billion comes across as tone deaf.

None of that is untrue. But yes, for the elite clubs expectations are simply higher and complaints about setbacks are less well received. But the reality is that the margin of superiority is pretty small at this level. Drop 5% and you suddenly find yourself well behind.

Liverpool won the league last season. How often does any fan get to enjoy that? Even if this campaign is a total bust I still feel lucky.

Nothing interesting results-wise thus far this weekend. Maybe Chelsea - Spurs will give us something to talk about.

The gut feeling I’m getting about the Villa match is some kind of unsatisfying draw. We’ll see.
I think Slot is leveraging this clout/feat currently. He's untouchable this season.
There was always going to be a regression to the mean after last season’s extraordinary performance. And defending a title is much harder than winning one once.

We’re also in squad rebuilding mode whether people realize it or not. That usually carries a performance penalty.

Another tidy, competent, cool, and controlled victory for Arsenal (playing away) against Burnley.

Better still, another clean sheet.

Excellent.

Important win for the hammers today - if they can string together a couple more results they’ll put big pressure on the next 4-5 clubs above them.
Indeed. I have everything crossed!

The performance was exactly what we needed. I was glad to see Freddie Potts in the starting 11. Shame his goal was ruled offside. I remember seeing his dad play for us. That’s 4 players that I have seen both Father and Son play for the club.

Anyone fancy seeing if they can name them?

Wolve's problem is selling their best players, failing to replace them, and then expecting the Manager (whoever they are) to work miracles.

And it seems this season is when they finally run out of steam.
Leicester suffered exactly the same problem, sold their best players, suffered in the league, sacked their manager, then end up relegated. Wolves are heading for the same.

Columbus smashed Cincinnati yesterday 4-0 in the second MLS Cup playoff leg. A fantastic performance against our Hell is Real derby rivals. So do we progress? Oh no, not yet. because, you see, this is MLS, where things are done...differently...for #reasons.

So there is now a third leg in the playoffs, in Cincinnati in a week, and if they win 1-0 again we're out...aggregate means nothing in this format. Maybe we should go back to throwing in cheerleaders and having the clock count down from 90 again, just like the good 'ol days.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

It's all about 'Americanizing' the sport and giving the new clubs a leg up for marketing purposes. So Cincy gets another chance and home field advantage (Which in MLS feels like a 1.5 goal advantage right off the bat). The whole thing is a moot point anyway, the next club in the bracket is probably going to be Miami and I can't see the league suits allowing them to fail in the playoffs again. I'm sure if we make it that far we'll pick up a soft early sending off or something against them.
