Liverpool’s defense is going to struggle the rest of the season. Too many injuries, no depth anywhere but left back.

We know what is wrong but it wasn’t fixed in January because that would involve overpaying for a riskier short term fix.

I understand why this was done, and the Guehi thing was simply bad luck on the club’s part - Palace had a right to say no to the transfer but the way they did it pulled the rug out.

But it all means that for the rest of the season we’re going to be dropping a lot of points due to defensive issues and nothing can be done to fix it. We’ll be hearing the same complaints from fans and pundits for the next three months every week.

The club is thinking longer term, which is ok, but for the moment we have to watch a partially complete rebuilding project soldier on and probably not do all that well….its logical from a certain perspective but it wont be fun to watch.

Qualify for the CL, get to the summer, and reset.
 
City deserved it. Apart from the worldie free kick Liverpool mainly huffed and puffed. A little improvement in the 2nd half. And Alisson was uncharacteristicly wobbly.

Gravenberch was awful and they ('Pool) were overrun in midfield. Salah is done imo. Liverpool are now mostly playing with 10 men when he's on the pitch.

City have thrown the gauntlet to Arsenal. That was arguably their last tough match. Could feasibly go on a run with Diaz back.

All of a sudden its no longer straightforward. And the Carabao final has been given an added edge.

As for Liverpool, they may well miss out on Top 5. Especially with Utd and Che in ascendancy.

West Ham just need to finish the season with three teams lying below them in the table; Wolves and Burnley already look beyond rescue, which means that West Ham have to overtake one of Leeds, Notts Forest, or - and this is strange to write - Spurs, before the end of the season, and, given their recent excellent form, - and the fact that 13 games with the season two thirds over - but, one third yet to go - this is not beyond the realm of possibility.

I think Spurs are safe tbh. The likelihood of them losing more games than the three teams below them seems unlikely.

Trouble is if we don’t beat the much improved Man Utd tonight (and I really doubt we will), Forest are likely to beat Wolves tomorrow. Then we are back to a six point cushion.
 
So we haven't scored in the first 20 odd minutes which has been our speciality of late. Hopefully we lose the speciality of conceding in the last 20 minutes.

Still ever hopeful we can get something whist it remains 0-0.
 
Thomas Frank is probably still employed because of his UCL performance.

Saying that Spurs look incredibly dire in the league, and considering the fixtures i think they're relegation candidates. Even more so if West Ham keep pulling out performances

Meanwhile looks like a good evening for LFC with Che and Utd dropping points

Yes, West Ham were unfortunate not to win, but a point from Manchester United at the moment (remember, they recently defeated us, a game I watched - suffered through - in a pub with gritted teeth, while nursing a small beer) is no small achievement.

And, bear in mind that there are still 12-13 games to go before the end of the season; if West Ham can sustain their current habit of collecting points (one, or three) per game, - or, for most games - they could still, and should still, survive.

Spurs will be unsettled now that Frank has been dismissed.

The Guardian has also reported on this, describing the European Super League project as "officially over" (and no loss).

On the one hand very welcome news. The irritating part is just how incredibly arrogant and entitled Barcelona and Real Madrid are as clubs. There are thousands of professional and semi-pro clubs in Europe, to say nothing of the amateur levels, but these two clubs see the game as existing largely for their benefit. Worse than that, they seem to think that they are bringing some sort of immense, irreplaceable value to the game through their existence. And feel entitled to use that as a bargaining chip to solidify their influence in how football is run - and who profits from it.

As far as I am concerned both clubs could be wound up tomorrow and football as a sport, business, and cultural institution would be just fine. The same goes for any other club with an inflated sense of self-importance.

Weren’t Liverpool the last PL club to pull out of the north (thankfully) failed super league? I don’t think that we can call them blameless in all this.
