My last resort was to price match with Best Buy BUT I just read their policy:

What if the competitor does not have the item in stock or has limited quantities of the product?
Sometimes a retailer will advertise a very low price for a product but have only limited quantities in stock. If the item is out of stock or the competitor has limited quantities of an item, it is not eligible for price matching. Likewise, if Best Buy has a product that is advertised as being limited in quantity it will not be eligible for price matching.

My local Microcenter are all out of stock. Did anyone happened to successfully price match even with this issue?

Doesn't hurt to try. Some will call to check stock, others don't bother. It will help if you print out the pricing from their online site so they won't have to call to confirm the price, instead of stock.

Yeah, the new Sandy Bridge CPU's run significantly faster on Geek Benchmark tests than the 2.4 C2D CPU's, like 3300 vs 5600 in the scores for the base models. That is much noticably faster then a 3.06 C2D CPU. No practical difference for everyday tasks. Add a bigger faster hard drive like a Hitachi Travelstar 7k500 (500gb 7200rpm) for about $60 from amazon and 8GB ram for about $100 and you really have an impressive machine - for the price of a base 13" from the apple store ;)

I had a 2010 MBP from MC for $999 but sold it for a 2010 15" MBP base which scored 50% faster in geek tests. I needed faster because I sold a iMac and the 13" to replace with a 15" and external monitor. Now the base 2011 base 13" is still faster. This really makes for a laptop that will hold up to most demanding tasks for years to come.

Arghhh i could go over to the states for the weekend and buy a laptop and still be under the price of buying one here...

Buying the Mac today!!!

Got the bucks so buying my MacBook Pro 13" (MC700LL/A) today at our Apple store...
Will let you know if I have any problems getting them to match the $999 price at Micro Center in Denver...

I just got a 2010 13" 2.4 C2D MBP in November. Seems pretty good overall. If I were to sell it for say $950 cash though and get the 2011 model at my local Microcenter, would I really notice much of an improvement? After taxes, it would be about a $125 upgrade to the 2011 2.3 i5. Thanks!

I'm not sure. It depends on what you're doing with it, and how much you want a new computer. If it was me, and I had the extra cash I would go for it.

You would get the Sandy Bridge 2.3ghz i5, 3000 HD Graphics, 320gb HD, 4gb Ram & Thunderbolt... :)

If you are editing movies or huge photo files there will be a noticeable difference. For most everything else there will be no difference at all - web, iWorks.... A fast hard drive and more RAM might make a noticeable difference, more RAM only if you do intensive tasks.

As I mentioned above, I went from a 13" 2010 purchased June to a 15" 2010 purchased in Nov which is about the same jump and I got a needed 50% or more boost in my Photoshop work.

Also, consider that MC ram this deal for the 2010's so they likely will do the same for the 2012's so perhaps that might offer a bigger bang for the buck is all is well with your current 13"

+1 - Ultimate price matching tool: RedLaser. Whenever I buy anything of value anywhere, I scan it with that app on my iPhone and any local retailers will be price matched. You can get linked straight to the retailer's website for verification, too.

Best Buy specifically, I've never had them call for verification. Including my $1200 TV for Walmart pricematch of $950. Also, you get rewards points :D

Thanks for the feedback. I really play next to no games on my 2010 so the graphics card I can care less about. But I do use iMovie from time to time to make some family videos. I have a 128 GB SSD in it as well which I can definitely tell a huge difference with for launching programs (I'll carry that SSD over to the 2011 model if I get it as well).

So really, the upgrade would be for just the processor bump which seems pretty significant).

The fact that you have an SSD gets you pretty far. That makes your 13" faster than the fastest MBA which is pretty fast because of the SSD. For the occasional iMovie use I would pass (unless you find it take longer than you can tolerate) and wait for the next refresh with Ivy Bridge CPU's which may be either a bit faster and/or less heat which means more battery.

We took advantage of this for my college age daughter to get a base 13" MBP. I bought my 13" I7 a bit more than a week ago and she was anxious to get her own. So we've gone from a 7 PC house to a 7 PC + 2 MBP House :)

I already prefer Mac to PC...

What a great parent you are....very cool

My local Best Buy honored the price-match at lunch time without any issues. The MicroCenter is about 32 miles away from the Best Buy I bought from too. I prefer Best Buy just because I get Reward Zone points there.

Can't wait to fire it up tonight at home! I hope I notice at least a little bit of a speed boost over my existing 2010 13" 2.4 MBP (after moving the SSD over of course).

Too Good of Deal to Pass Up

Had planned on taking tax refund and using it on vacation but a $999 Macbook Pro deal was just too good to pass up. I live in Mission Viejo and the Best Buy in Mission Viejo easily matched the price on Wednesday April 20, 2011. They all must be losing money on this one.

Yeah I'm really curious as to MicroCenter actually makes money on any of these or if it's a loss leader and they bank on accessories being purchased at the same time.
