What ithe heck is going on? There are so many ads, more ads if I skip ahead in a longer video, blocks of two unskippable ads… its so bad that I’ve resorted to watching YouTube on a PC connected to my Television with ad block on.
i don’t mind the occasional ad, but the shear number and frequency of them is insane.

They want to sell their Premium service.
They made the situation so bad that I considered it, but the price in the UK is comically expensive.

While this is true the fact is when you do pay the insane price for Premium the creators use sponsored ads because they know folks use ad blockers or simply because the sponsor pays more.

I tried to support YouTube by paying but if I have to sent through a 90sec or more sponsorship still then nah.

Creators actually get more money from YouTube for YouTube Premium users than non-Premium users. For most creators, adblock is not a source for significant ad revenue losses.

There are countries other than the UK . . . if you catch my drift.

The ad situation has gotten so bad lately that it's stopping me from clicking on some videos. Sometimes I just have a mild passing interest in a video, but not enough to suffer the ads, so I don't click on it. Other times I am half way through a video that is boring me a little and the ads come on, at which point I hit back and leave the video completely.

I am pretty much at my absolute limit with them.

I watch youtube more than any other streaming service so the $23 for premium family (that covers six individual users) is probably the best entertainment money I spend every month. As far as the creator inserted ads, most of them have some sort of witty intro, keep it short, and is usually relevant to the channel. And if it isn't - skip 10 seconds until you are past it.

$10/mo for content shouldn't be out of reach for someone that has $6000 worth of the latest Apple hardware in their bio.

I"m with the OP. The commercials on YouTube are out of control. I have been using a 3 month trial of Premium and I have to say it is very nice to not have all that blaring crap blasting out of my TV. I was going to cancel after the free trial but I'm not sure I can stand it anymore. I may have to keep paying for Premium.

Are you paying for YouTube? No? Than they have to pay to host the content some way shape or form.

The worst is that for some reason they insist on showing me Febreeze ads in Spanish, even though I've never watched any Spanish content and my account is set for English. It's super weird that it's specifically Febreeze.

I am getting super sick of YouTube in general. First you get the 30 seconds of unskipable ads, followed by either "Hello and welcome" or "Hey guys," then a solid 2-3 minutes of them trying to convince you to like and subscribe, followed by their sponsor break, then it's time for more YouTube ads. Before you know it 7 minutes have gone by and they are just starting with some preamble on what the video is about without actually getting to the point. By then I just turn it off frustrated as hell that it took so damn long for them to say that the new HomePod is basically the same as the last one. 🙄

If you truly want to combat the ads, then the most effective way would be to always use the web version of YouTube and use an adblocker+sponsorblocker to get rid of those pesky breaks. Sure, the web browser is slower than the app, but all those ads more than outweigh the load times.

This is exactly what I do. I've been blocking YT ads for about two years now. Just start a video and airplay it to my ATV.

The purpose of tv was not showing people the programs but advertisements. Anyway, the ads I don't mind so much because they keep it free. My beef is the mislabeling of content!!!!!

I found Tube Pro for iOS/iPad OS. It's not quite as smooth as Youtube but for not having the constant barrage of ads every 3 seconds it's totally worth it.

Mislabeling of content and click-bait thumbnails/titles... 20 minute videos that are nothing but a computer generated voice reading a ChatGPT script over unrelated stock footage that somehow have 100,000+ views, or the same tech review over and over.

Use a VPN to sign up to Premium. My £2.50 a month YouTube Premium is lovely.
