The 14-day return policy pretty much guarantees that the white iPhone won't become available until at least 14-days after the pre-orders are delivered and there is some sort of general retail availability of the black one.

I assume this is more of Apple's marketing department trying to extend the launch over a month or two rather than a matter of days (they'll get a nice second-launch pop with the white iPhone)... something they've done with great success for the iPad... but whatever, their job is to make their stockholders happy and they do seem to be happy.

30 days for the iPhone.

I think I'm gonna buy some AAPL around end Sept/October. :D

The best time to buy has long past. I'm selling in a few months as it's currently over valued & precarious. When the big wave of Android phones are launched late in the second half of this year, Apples stock will take a hit.

We had to return our iPad because the WiFi-only version claimed to have "assisted GPS." This was slang for Buddha knows what, because it had no GPS that was of any practical value. Sooo... we sucked up the restock fee and got a 3G iPad.

That sucked.

I'd love to know what lead you to believe the wifi iPad had assisted gps. "assisted" means it uses cell towers to determine your general location and then the gps takes it from there and determines your precise location. The wifi doesn't even have a gps, let alone the ability to connect to a cell tower. The list of features were stated in no uncertain terms on apple's website.

Apple Store employee on the day we went in to take a look at the WiFi models.

I agree with your definition. I was leery of the whole thing myself. But, we decided to give it a try anyway. I agree that the features were stated on Apple's web site. We did discover that, after we tried to use Google Maps and realized that it just didn't work the way the rep had stated that it would. We even told him we wanted to take it on trips.

Eh... I think they should train their reps better, but that's just me.

I really wanted the iPad for reading books and light web browsing. My husband was the one who really wanted to tether to it and use the GPS.

Live and learn.

The countless hours I spent trying to pre-order has opened my eyes. I have overlooked the existence of other manufactures the last few years, but it really irks me the way pre-orders played out. Couple that with the increasing dropped calls and overpriced plans with AT&T (which I have been overlooking) and I decided to test the waters. Yesterday I signed up for an Evo and plan on returning it within the thirty days. What I found is a freaking awesome phone with a pretty crappy provider in my area. The Droid X announcement today causes me from storming stores tomorrow.

I have been a loyal customer and early adopter of Apple for a while. That may all change. The smoke and mirrors with the company is certainly getting old.

I agree, especially with this whole yellow blob on the screen issue looking like its picking up some steam. But then again, Apple doesn't make their fans act insane around launch, we all do have the option of choice and patience.

i agree the apple feeling of 5 year back is gone. it's too big/popular. i guess that is what happens when you do well but it could lead to disaster.

the other thing though is our expectations are through the roof. if you look at the iphone 4 and take a step back it's sci-fi stuff. it really is amazing. for that matter just a few weeks back i had an epiphany while using my original iphone. even that thing was amazing. point being, they've set the bar VERY high and lead the entire electronics industry into something else.

The hater's hate is wearing thin!

And...

Stupid is as stupid does.

And, the really pathetically said part.... Much of the hater's hate is based upon rumor and FUD, not fact. Take this thread for example.. Just a few messages up we have a hater that is upset with Apple over the fact that he returned a WiFi-only iPad because it didn't have assisted GPS. He claims that Apple advertised the WiFi iPad's had assisted GPS. When, in fact, no such claim was made by Apple. Myself and many others kept pointing out to folks that if you wanted a GPS (meaning, assisted GPS), then you HAD to get the 3G model. Yet, people started topics telling how their WiFi-only iPads MUST have a GPS built-in because it found their location. Despite what Apple's specs showed, these people insisted Apple was wrong (Apple wasn't).

Sorry, but it's the "negative Nellies" and "FUD rakers" that are wearing thin around here.

hype is wearing thin because people over hype every product apple makes....its like thinking a honda civic is the best car in the world without driving it...it comes with all this stuff and its so great but then you drive it and oh....it's not that great of a car....your ferrari 599 is much more comfortable, faster, luxurious, with more features better sound, etc, etc.

see my point? people build things up to be the greatest ever and get let down when it doesn't meet their expectations.

When I bought my iPad, I specifically asked the employee "GPS"?
He specifically told me "Assisted". word is bond.

IDC, because I bought my iPad to make music.
