Many thanks for your answers! I purchased my 128GB Gold iPad Pro this afternoon with a silicone case. Bummed the pencil is three weeks out from shipping, but it'll give me time to try one at my local Apple Store.

Yes, as was putting a glass on the screen! Another one, red lines drawn fast, green, very slow, orange circle slow (I pushed the glass as I went around it), the red circle was fast.

The pencil is awesome, this will be brought to every iPad within the next 2 years.

That's impressive. I was about to question if the app had some aggressive smoothing turned on, but on one of the green lines I can see a hand-caused wobble that didn't get smoothed out at all. Does the glass have any kind of texture on it, something that would create the slight waves there? It kind of looks like the stair-step pattern I'm checking for, but it's really mild and seems kind of random or even geometric (and it's on the fast circle too).

Thanks for doing the test by the way, this is a huge piece of info for artists that none of the review sites ever get to.

I've never had an issue with a stylus scratching the glass of an iPad (only one I've even heard of doing so are those Adonit's with the plastic disks) but the tip of the Pencil is hard, but very slightly pliable. It will wear down eventually. The glass would scratch the tip before the Pencil would scratch the glass.

That being said, I'm sure SOMEONE will figure out a way to do it, film it, and it will be some large pseudo-controversy...

In my experience the culprit is usually a single grain of sand/similar stuck to the tip of your pen. They can be incredibly tiny and will scratch the top coating layer. Not much can be done to prevent it other than making sure to wipe off your equipment before use, or using a screen protector. My SP1 has more micro-scratches from this than you could count, but it's also a few years old and used for frantic algebra.

It's mostly frictionless, but offers a bit of drag. A lot like drawing with a very soft leaded pencil or oil pastel.

If this thing becomes popular with artists we may start to see 3rd party screen protectors specifically designed to change the texture. The Cintiq/Intuos texture is the result of a plastic screen protector which is designed to be scratched by the pen tip to feel like real paper, for example.

3rd party nibs could be a possibility as well.

This can be a serious problem for some people. And it was a problem with Palm Pilot displays.

If there's a volcano (ancient, inactive) within a few hundred miles of you, then some of the dust in the air (or that someone tracks in on their shoes) can be as hard as gemstones. Have one of these nearly invisibly small dust particles fall on your iPad display or get stuck to your stylus and you have a scratch generator. Won't even notice until later when the light hits the display from a different angle.

Please give us an update on this. Will you return it?
Not sure. They didn't say anything about getting one first when they do become public. They told me I could order a new one and wait the 3-4 weeks for a new one.

I'm not a fan of that at all.

My experience as well.
I used at Tyson's store in VA. Worked great. Never experienced writing on a screen like this. First time I could really imagine taking notes just like paper, as it felt very close to like pen or pencil to paper.

But at least they offered you a free one didn't they? Besides, some poor sales guy (or girl) may be sweating their job security too. Consider it good karma.

Well, it's not bull, as it actually happened, but perhaps there was something set improperly in the iPad I was playing with. I was able to "ink" with both my finger and the Pencil in the Notes app as well as another demo app whose name I've forgotten (it was an app I don't own).

Palm rejection is not the same as finger rejection. ;)

Good palm rejection only rejects your hand/palm/arm, and not a finger.

Just got home from playing with it at the store. The pencil is amazing and works in several different apps. Love the awesome palm rejection technology. Had one display unit from stock that everybody was clamoring to try.

Interesting story about my Apple Pencil. I ordered one at the only store that said they'd have it today, picked it up and the box said 'demo model, do not sell' but they gave it to me anyways.

Fast forward to an hour ago I received a call from the store manager asking me to return it immediately and needing to wait until the stores have non-demo models available. She was polite and told me they'd provide me a free one. Then I just received a call from an Apple rep from Austin Texas informing me I need to call them back immediately.

Interesting. I wonder if this is how all the in-store units came about, by stores accidentally listing demo units as available to order? Anyone actually get one in a proper retail box from the store today? Maybe it was not their intention to launch the Pencil in stores until later.

Happened to me too. I got white box demo units (pencil and keyboard) from an Apple Store in the Washington DC area. Manager called and wanted me to return them. They refunded the items and took a big discount off the IPP.

I wonder what would have happened had you refused. No need to respond, really, just a thought game...

While picking up my Ipad pro yesterday I got to play with the pencil in the store. I have to say, I was beyond blown away with it. works extremely well and cannot wait to get mine next week!

I guess mine will come next week if Apple delivers on the early side of their estimate. My order shows a Delivers: 19 Nov, 2015 - 27 Nov, 2015 Shipping status.
