Unfortunately these long down periods have not been product refreshes in the past. In the weeks leading up to WWDC there were a couple of them for 6-8 hours. Of course there were a bunch of people saying it's because Steve Jobs is not around any more to flip the switch and shows how Apple is going down.

It does however cause a little bit of hype.. and we all know how much Apple love that

Yeah they have it down to a fine art now... THE wait :D
Makes finally acquiring the hardware all the more sweeter right?

And the game is over...Nothing new except some slick new scrolling pictures for the "New" iMac.....Now we can return to sanity until the store goes down again....I predict that tis will happen on the eve of the 25TH July...:D

I'm in the states and not getting that at the moment.

It keeps going up and down, I'm just sat working hitting refresh (credit card to hand in the event of an emergency purchase)

same scrolling pictures as before here...

Just kept refreshing the store tab on US store

Oh, I can do the same thing on my iPhone. You can safely ignore it. The store is still down and you're seeing dodgy cache. The store is not going up and down by the way.

if iMac and mini is being updated - apple, give them SSD - this is no more premium today, it should be basic setup

You were able to add a SSD to iMac last year but it was only 256 and you needed to sell yourself to the devil to pay for it :)

and thats what I am speaking about, small ssd for system is a must, not a premium highly prices option, in year 2012

It's weird, isn't it. Since 11 June when the iMac refresh didn't materialise, people have stopped talking wish-list of new spec. Maybe Apple's strategy all along with expectations going into the stratosphere with the product in the weeks leading up to WWDC

Still down for me

Oh, still a chance then it could update then.
(makes a note to clear cache)

While ever we have talk of an update it will put some people off buying a new machine and whilst its good to build hype and chatter of pending updates it can also slow or damage desktop sales. I think the iMac update will be sooner rather than later (he says waving his credit card at his old loyal iMac)

I'm on a retina MBP and the apple.com pages look a lot better now than they did a few days ago... maybe the downtime is just to get the website updated with retina graphics?

That would explain the dodgy graphics I was seeing and posted earlier.

Pretty sure it's a retina graphics update. Just noticed the buy button on some of the pages have just been updated.

before...

after...

In a vain attempt to get some kind of closure...I called my Apple buddy...."No Comment"

This means one of three things:

A) He doesn't know..(unlikely, he is pretty high up the food chain.)

B) He's not allowed to say.. (very likely)

C) He's pulling my leg (VERY likely)...:D
