While I am as anxious and excited about the up-coming announcement of whatever kind of tablet we see I do have one minor complaint; as a commuter who has to go by the Yerba Buena Center each day via public transit, I really hope that SF PD don't re-route traffic or anything like that; I don't want to have to call in and say Steve Jobs is making me late for work (even though it would be pretty funny!)

I would really like to see tethering come to the iPhone in the states as well as the tablet so I can just tether my internet connection :)

AppleInsider is reporting that Apple intends to sell newer book titles for around $15, and allow publishers to actually set their own prices.

Massive fail if so....Wal-Mart will undercut them with old school paper versions and even Amazon scores better with their $9.99 Kindle pricing limit.

Dude, I don't mean to be a bad influence or anything but I think in this case it's justified.....

Ditch work tomorrow!! :D

Oh, and see if you can sneak into the event. How often in your lifetime will you be able to witness an event like that live???

"You can't leave work in the middle of the day - you're not a Somali pirate."

Sure you can! Just induce vomiting and throw up in front of your supervisor.....works every time. :D

Or start acting like you have the flu then start touching everybody while sniffling and watch as the supervisor orders you to go home.

Or just say that you have a dentist's appointment. Or hell, just call in sick for gawd's sake!

Unfortunately, in my case, I'm not doing any of the above. Because I JUST CANT STANNNNNNNNNNND the thought of looking at this major event through a freakin "live blog" of some overworked tech blogger typing away very bad paraphrases of what Steve Jobs is saying and watching pics updated every few minutes.

I WANT TO SEE A LIVE VIDEO STREAM OF THE EVENT!!

*sigh* I guess the only thing I can do really is not watch any websites until after work and watch a pre-recorded video of the event from the spoiler-free link.
I actually NEED to go to work so I'll be able to keep my mind busy until the video is available online. :(

If I wasnt an intern I would;

and how would you recommend I sneak it? And if I can can we start a paypal account to get my bail paid?

Rumor is all wars will stop during the presentation. Taliban announcing a cease fire tomorrow

See, you shoulda been an intern at a tech blog. That would have gotten you in. Or, you can infiltrate the old fashioned way. Go in through the kitchen as a delivery guy. :D

that last line reminded me of a line from a George Lopez show episode
(this is a rough script not word for word)
Angie :George how are you gonna get in?

George: " excuse me; hot plate! hot plate!"

What if it has build in 3g, but you don't have to pay for it (like the kindle with built in free 3g). The obvious problem with this idea is that big fancy colour magazines and stuff will use a lot more bandwidth than black and white ebooks on the kindle.

Here is where that problem is solved - Rumours mention that the books will be quite a bit more expensive on the tablet than on the kindle. I think this is not just because apple are known for being greedy profit hungry pricks, but because the cost of the 3g bandwidth will be factored into the cost of each item you buy. So people will not pay for 3g on a monthly basis, and will only pay for the bandwidth used on each item they purchase and download.

Web browsing can be done from wifi, and maybe they have an option where you can buy 3g bandwidth for web browsing if you want it on the go (instead of by wifi like most people). Maybe even in the app store you can buy bunches of 3g data for surfing and extra downloads (like apps and stuff and music), sort of like credits you can buy for xbox live/psn/wii.

I'll wake up in the morning to find the latest issues of some of the magazines I subscribe to have automatically downloaded to my SuperNewton - equaling the thrill I get when I open the mailbox and find the newest issue of Fast Company.

I can't wait for the digital print revolution.

they should just combine both trademarks: iPad + iSlate = iPlate. that way you can eat off of it to.

Interesting... I'm watching this video on a new set of developer tools that abstracts iPhone/Android app development ...

http://www.appcelerator.com/showcase/

The interesting thing is, they're talking about the tablet before it's released! On top of they seem to say:
- confirm a 10.5 inch screen
- note that battery won't last more than six hours

Interesting.

LOL! Yeah. Hey, someone has to deliver Steve's SmartWater! :D

It is more than likely that I will definitely pre-order this. I am mostly a pc guy. The iphone is in its own class of computing. I think the iphone os will evolve into more powerful os that surpasses the os that runs the macbook pro. It will evolve to be better than the window 7 of the pc. So, the iphone os of the tablet is just the birth of a new beginning. I think the marriage between iphone os and window 7 would be awesome or snow leopard X. I wonder if the tablet would have a toggle switch between iphone os and snow leopard os. If os, that would be awesome, too.

It sounds super cool and I love the possibilities of tablet technology, but I'm also a rational human being and won't be digging out the credit card just for this. If it does deliver the news like a newspaper, then I don't need it as I don't like the idea of subscribing using a credit card.

It would be cool if I could use Photoshop Elements on the tablet. It that's the case then you've got me hooked on the tablet in the next year or so.

huh? Lots of mp3 players existed. I owned 2 from Creative.

You're misunderstanding the point I'm making. Sure there were other players around, but as soon as the iPod came out and was coupled with iTunes, regardless as to how many MP3 players people had previously owned, it blew everything else out of the water. Same with the iPhone and the App Store - only as I mentioned, similarly-physical competition has since emerged but, as we all know, they are still trying to catch up, probably inanely...

So my iPod reference was to back up the point was that in terms of hardware, the tablet will resemble the iPod Touch too closely to be regarded unique. That's why Stevie-Boy is so excited by the revolutionary content he has secured...
