huh? Lots of mp3 players existed. I owned 2 from Creative.
 
Anyone notice that the iPhone Dev Portal was updated?

I had let my developers license lapse, and I wanted to renew it today. I noticed that the portal went down for a while with the "We'll be back soon!" placeholder.

When it was back up, I went in and renewed my account. I thought the Ts&Cs were a bit funny:

Coincidentally I seem to have misplaced my Kindle in the last two days (probably just somewhere in my house), but I'm not too concerned because I suspect its days are numbered.

I hope the press gets it together and gets back to charging for its content so that they can stay in business. I subscribe to NYTimes and WSJournal on my Kindle and expect that the iTablet will provide a better experience for both of them. So I don't mind canceling my subscription on the Kindle and moving over to the iTablet as long as the costs aren't too much higher (Kindle is nice that you don't pay any monthly fee for internet connection since you only use the Sprint network for downloads).

There are already two products similar to this on the market. The Nomad Jukebox and the Archos Jukebox which can come with a 20 gig HD. The iPod is obviously alot cooler and has firewire, but it is far from revolutionary. I for one am disappointed and think that apple is making a mistake by trying to get into this market.

Sometimes the night before, Apple will do a "controlled" leak if they feel the hype is too out of control, or they feel the need to tamper expectations.

An example of this would be the 3Gs announcement last year. People were saying there would be a front facing camera on the iPhone and maybe a tablet. Well Gruber the night before posted to his blog more or else the following

"no front facing camera, new iPhone will be called 3Gs (s for speed) and no tablet announcement yet"

By morning, no one was talking front facing camera anymore, and sure as hell weren't even whispering about the tablet.

Tonight maybe we'll get such a post from Gruber or Wall St. Journal clearing things up, but more importantly...bringing our expectations back down to earth.

Okay. Well, you have done a good job of distilling all the main and sensible rumors out there from the past several weeks. Naturally, none of us will know until the Stevenator tells us. I have been waiting for this for three years at least, since the iPhone announcement. You'll notice by my signature that I don't have ANY Apple multi-touch device or laptop. This is because I want something in the middle, to bridge the gap. Given the right features, this will be it!

My only prediction then, is one I have NOT seen anybody make, that seems so obvious that it IS probably most likely. Given that the e-reading of books, magazines, textbooks, comic books, PDF's and so forth are apparently a BIG tablet feature, I think it will have a screen with an ASPECT RATIO commensurate with them. And to me, an 8.5 x 11 ratio (not size) answers perfectly. Yep, just like a piece of paper.

Since "10.1 inches diagonal" is the most-mentioned spec, along with "between 10 and 11 inches diagonal", I think that they have simply scaled down the dimensions of a piece of paper to bring it into this range. 8.5 x 11 yields a diagonal of nearly 14 inches, clearly out-of-range. But if you reduce that sheet of paper by 25%, you get a screen size of about 6 3/8 x 8 1/4 inches and a diagonal of 10.5. Or, with a 20% reduction, those figures are approximately 6 3/4 x 8 3/4, with a diagonal of about 11 inches! EITHER ONE OF THESE would fulfill the rumor!

AND finally, both of these sizes (with bezel) would fit within the size of the Kindle DX housing, and be a little shorter due to no physical keyboard, as yet another rumor has it. Let's see what tomorrow brings!

And "tomorrow" is now only 16 hours and 03 minutes away as I write!! 🙂

I don't know what to think of that statement. Surprised would be if I had to use the back of my hand or my nose or elbow. I am expecting to use my fingers. Maybe the video camera will see gestures and that is what the surprise is.

I think there's got to be some pretty revelatory aspects to the operating system and interacting with it ... 'cause everything it purports to do and everything that it could do I would think I can do with iPhone or mb. This idea of providing magazines and newspapers with a platform by which we can be served and they can make money I don't get. They are all already on the web. What's my incentive for paying for X newspaper on a pad when I can see its website on my mb or iPhone? Seeing a newspaper's front page with an actual video playing (perhaps even live), rather than a color photo is cool and all, but not a game changer to me. Oh, they'll stop providing content for free as they currently do? I can't buy that. In order for that to be viable they'd have to have EVERY content provider do the same (worldwide); otherwise, the competition would gain too much.
So the newspapers/magazines angle doesn't work for me. Nor games, music and movies/TV which I already have on laptop and phone.
Maybe it's not directed toward me. But I think I'm pretty much like everybody else.
Got to be something much more interesting than the content it conveys to you.
 
Just a thought on the iPad / iSlate rumblings ..

If you were going to bring out (perhaps not immediately but one first then another) product with two different form factors, wouldn't you look to differentiate them by branding?

It sounds to me (particularly given the late surge in registrations for iPad on the various intellectual property registries around the world), that the initial launch is something likely to be called iSlate, which could be the rumoured 10" (roof slate size!) touchscreen, with the later debut of the iPad at 7" (note pad size!) ..

Anyhow, just a thought ..

I guess you're not old enough to remember the Apple Laserwriter? With that revolutionary product & Postscript, Apple with it's Mac Classic basically created the desktop publishing market keeping them alive and allowing us to have these great new products today. People take that stuff for granted now but the Laser Printer was the "thing to have" when it came out in 1985.... a steal at only $6,995!


We can remember three other moments like this:

- PowerMac G5 (2003)
- Macintosh Moving to Intel Processors (2005)
- The iPhone (2007)
