I Love 1981 - BBC Cult Page

I wasn't too happy with that first episode. Doesn't have the Life on Mars magic, since she knows what's going on. I don't think it's going to have the same impact as LoM but we'll see.

And what's up with taking successful northern TV shows and moving them south?! Get your own :p;)

Didn't watch this tonight- any good?

It starts off with the new main character (Alex) reading about Sam's story. She then ends up back in time trying to trigger the same "future" messages that Sam got. It's basically playing on the first series an awful lot, Gene Hunts as weak as a pansy but has been given some kind of theme tune, the new hang out is an Italian. It's horribly diluted and lacks the intensity of the first series.

But the music is friggin fantastic.

Zippy & George was fab:D

music was cool too

"Don't move , your surrounded by armed b******'s"

Ashes to ashes, funk to funky
We know Major Toms a junkie

I'm too old for this forum...

Hmmmmmmmmmm I wasn't sure about that! Filling Sam's shoes will be a tough job. John Sim is a good actor, he knew just how to play it.

I'd say the first episode was clumsy but it might get better...

Haven't watched the show(s), but:

"Ashes To Ashes" and "Life On Mars" are two David Bowie songs. Any significance to that?

While I was doing training to work for Apple last october, they were filming round the corner. It was near liverpool street/moorgate somewhere.

It was a little odd to walk through the set at first as obviously i was unaware that it was going on, plus seeing the type of cars and policemen in the area before seeing any cameras/trailers..

Watched it 'live' and going to watch it again on iPlayer.
OMG, the cars, the music, the fashion.:D I'm 6 years old again (and I remember John Lennon getting shot!)

I thought Life on Mars was excellent too, I've always wanted a Capri.

If it makes you feel any better, we annexed Grange Hill off them, started filming it in Liverpool (although the on-screen location changed from London to an unnamed city) and got it axed. That'll teach 'em. ;)

I wasn't massively impressed with Ashes To Ashes, but I'm prepared to give it a bit of time to see how it develops. The soundtrack was rather splendid, though.

"Not scratching this baby"

:)

Anyone else noticed just how chubby the "old" New Romantics were in the nightclub.

Lots of Duran Duran fans 26 years and 5 stones later...

So far I'm enjoying it. I love it when the main character is so damn sure of herself but gets it wrong. I wonder whether that's building to a realisation that her "fantasy" is actually more real than either her or Sam in Life on Mars realised.

Enjoyable TV but not as good as Life on Mars so far. I find the Alex character mildly annoying which doesn't help: Hopefully she'll calm down a bit as the series progresses.
It's still better than a lot of the rubbish that gets put on our screens so I'm happy to continue watching it :)

Just finished watching the latest episode on iPlayer, didn't want to come in this thread in case there were any spoilers. Liking the new series and loving iPlayer.
