And the great man Shane Warne comes on for a couple of overs at the death on Day Two.

Waaaaaarrrnnnnieeeeee!!!!!

Arrrghhhh! How can we play so badly?!?!?!?!?!?!

Is there a sport we invented that we still dominate?

...

jolly good show aussies - looks like the series is yours :(

I've just realised how ironic Harmison's only wicket was. It only came about due to Cook dropping Warne off Anderson.

Now that rusty England have got a decent practice session in (albeit an expensive one), I'd be expecting a bit more of a competition in Adelaide.

Although I've been surprised to hear that Vaughan had declared himself ready to play the forth test. Notwithstanding that it could all be over by then, does England really need or want another player in with no match practice for a year?

Nasser Hussain predicts....

"Australia in turmoil", says Hussain

"He also thinks holders England can exploit what he sees as the declining powers of 37-year-old Warne and 36-year-old seamer Glenn McGrath."

"England will feel that if they can get through McGrath's new-ball spell and the occasional wonderful spell from Warne, there will be runs to be had elsewhere."

"For the first time in a long while, Australia are not certain about the make-up of their bowling line-up.

"They don't have the luxury of a settled and proven four-man attack that has served them so well for years.

"On his day, Steve Harmison can be the best bowler in the world," Hussain said.

"He has exactly what it takes to be successful in Australia: height, pace and bounce. And the Australians fear him. But what I would want from him is consistency.

"The issue for Steve is about not settling for mediocrity: he has got to strive to be the best. He has to perform, not in one Test in five but in three or four in five.

And my favourite...

"England definitely have the batsmen to score heavily on good pitches."

Pietersen and Flintoff gone in successive overs, 78/5 now... not looking good.

Pietersen's LBW looked a little suss but he didn't offer a shot so that really didn't help his cause in the appeal, I think Billy "I'm a Kiwi goose" Bowden made the right call.

Poms in a lot of trouble.

Hawkeye is not like the infrared camera. It is only a computer simulation and it's not really the same class as analysing a nuclear test.

Yesterday there was a ball that clearly missed the stump by about an inch and on the slow motion replay all the commentators announced it was 2 or three centimetres. However, Hawkeye put it at 9cm. None of the commentatort made any deal over the discrepancy.

It certainly didn't look to me like it was going to miss the off stump.

Didn't say anything about Hawkeye - I was just going off the slo-mo replay. It was definitely close, to me it was going to hit, and the fact that Pietersen shouldered arms put it beyond a doubt.

England all out for 157 Australia 602d

Well that's blighty all out.

I can't believe it but it seems that Punter is thinking about batting again. I guess with two days left after today it would be a strange psychological ploy. But surely not!

EDIT: They are Australia to bat again.

The only England player to put up any resistence with a tortured 4 hour 50, Ian Bell, felt justified yesterday to say...

"We've got to believe we can do it too and that's the challenge, to fight as hard as we can and keep Australia out there as long as possible," said Bell.

"We've got to send the message that we're not just here to be walked over."

You just knew he was going for a duck today.

Well, that's it for Brisbane. An abysmal performance from England, particularly their bowlers. Fact is that England don't look like taking 20 wickets in any of the four remaining matches even with Panesar and Mamhoud.

England will need at least four of their top six batsmen to post decent scores in two innings of each test to have any hope of avoiding a whitewash. Looks like the final result will be 4-0, or 5-0 if England bat as badly as here or 3-0 if they bat really well.

It will be fascinating to see who the selectors pick for Adelaide. Looks like either Clark or Lee have to make way for McGill. I'd really enjoy seeing Warne and McGill bowling in tandem.

Although I think it will be unfair to Clark I think the selectors will stay with Lee.

G'day Mad Kiwi,

The Aussies cannot fail to regain the Ashes now. As it is impossible for the Pomgolians to bowl Australia out twice, so it is only a matter of 5-0, 4-0 (likely) or 3-0.

Fascinating day shaping up. It's about time that Gilly made a bit of an effort and Clarky was looking sharp. I wouldn't bet against a spectacular England batting collapse if Australia declare behind.

Watching the highlights last night I suddenly realised that Ricky Ponting looks ever so slightly like George Bush.

Still, his century looks to have pushed the game well beyond any chance of a result. Boo to the curator of this lifeless track.

Yep, the dull, lifeless batting track was the real star of this test. Plenty of runs do not win a test match. The only way you can win a test is to take 20 of your opponent's wickets and that's not going to happen on this pitch.

I'd rather see a good close game then a bunch of centuries and no result.

England have lost 4 wickets for 8.

Pietersen bowled around his legs, Fred's just gone it's 77/5 still in the first session. Looks like England will be relying on Giles and Jones to save the match with their superb batting skills. Oh the irony...

Collingwood's still in but Geraint Can't Catch Jones is about to face Brett Lee with his tail up...

England 7 for 97, Giles bowled for a duck, Jones gone for 10. Fletcher's grand "long tail" plan in ruins.

If England lose this it will sort of take a bit of a shine of Colly's double ton and England crawling all over Warnie in their first innings.

Hooley Dooley!!

Poms bowled out for 129 with a lead of 167.

Aussies have 36 overs to get the runs at ~4.5 runs an over. It's do-able but gee it's going to be tight.

What an amazing bit of bowling from Warne/Lee/McGrath to knock the poms over so cheaply and get the Aussies back into the game. I'd love to see the Aussies knock these runs up for the loss of minimal wickets and go to Perth 2-0 up with all the momentum.

Incredible. Australia get 600 odd at Brissy and humiliate England. England get nearly 600 here and by the fourth day it only looked like they could draw at best.

There's only one hope for England now. They must draw on their considerable one day skills.

<insert smiley face>

9 runs to win from 6 overs.

Another record in this match. England have declared for the highest first innings total to lose a test match.

I can't wait for the reports tomorrow where Hoggard says "we can take a lot of positives from this match".
