the apple watch has contact management?
im not sure if the earlier versions of watchOS had it, but on WatchOS 9 on my series 7 (45mm) you can

Yes. You can edit contacts on your watch. It’s not the same as on the phone though.

in the context of a feature phone that you can use when you don't have ur standard iPhone, isn't this exactly that tho?
the ability to record a name, number, email, address

For sure. But if you have your watch on one hand and the phone in the other it’s an easy choice.

My point exactly.

If I have my phone with me when I’m sitting in front of my MacBook Air, there’s zero probability I’ll use my phone for anything other than the camera or talking on the phone. But if the laptop is in the bag and the phone is in my hand, I’m not digging the laptop out just to update my addressbook or calendar.

The watch is another point on that spectrum. There are plenty of times where a modern smartphone is needlessly annoying; for all those times, the watch is perfect.

I feel like there was at one time and it was comical.
The thing is, if you open a link from Messages or Mail, it pops up a little browser that I actually find extremely usable!

There's just no way to have the web page as its own app, so you effectively can't use Messages/Mail again until you close the web page. Or, if you open the page with Siri, you can't multi-task at all until you close the page.

You can consider making a YouTube video since people there like exaggerated titles haha.
We all know that using the Apple Watch as a full on phone is going to be a very compromised experience.

I plan on using mine more often as a standalone device and not be too dependent on my iPhone. These past few days I just left my iPhone at home and used the Watch and AirPods Pro instead. It’s nice to disconnect from your phone sometimes. Luckily I can make it through a whole day on a single charge with cellular.

This is exactly why I got an Apple Watch. Very happy with the ultra so far. I’ve seen nothing but benefits from getting an Apple Watch. Makes working out for fun that I can track my workouts now, my walks, and sleep. It also makes me want to be more active lol. But most importantly I wanted to disconnect from my phone but I just get fomo with calls and texts which isn’t often but it’s there. But it’s nice not going on social media all the time and do mindless scrolling on the internet.

Get a Car that supports CarKey like latest BMW or Hyundai/Genesis ( hint : gv60)
To be fair, that’s an awful lot of money for such a feature.

You can get generic third-party replacement car keys for only mildly outrageous prices, and the hardware and software they have is trivial compared to what’s on the watch. Sure would be nice to be able to clone your car key onto the watch.

Anybody know what frequencies car keys use, and whether the watches have theoretically-compatible transceivers? And then, of course, you’d need pretty low-level access to them to program such a thing, maybe not available through official SDKs …

I went a full 24 hours heavily using the Apple Watch Ultra on cellular and I’m still at 10%. I made several calls throughout day, text messages, Apple Pay, streamed music, used navigation for 20 minutes, workout for 60 minutes and sleep tracking for about 6 hours. I’m impressed that the battery can last this long. I’m now convinced that I can ditch my iPhone most days and just use the watch.

Imo this is the future we are heading. There will be more and more regular tasks that can be done via the watch through Siri/voice. With cellular being mandatory on the ultra, it could become the iPhone nano. Obviously it's not usable for content consumption, but it will be interesting what will happen if Apple allows Apple Watch support on iPadOS, allowing people to just have iPad and Apple Watch, no iPhone. Clearly Apple wouldn't do it as the iPhone is their money making machine. But if they did, would consumer behavior change?

This is what I hope for someday, iPad (Pro) & Apple Watch (Ultra), with no iPhone needed...!

Sooner or later, as the tech keeps improving, that could be the inevitable reality. I guess that’s why Apple is preparing from now, by making an $800 Apple Watch. When the time comes and wearables become your “phone,” Apple is already set selling a $1000+ Apple Watch :D
