Eric Schmidt is grinning

So is Larry Page.

Andy Rubin is on some beach probably sippin some cognac.

I think the Samsung guys are doing high fives. I love my IP4, but if they release the Nexus on 11 Oct or 3 November, I will be there to try it out.

All these guys are clinking glasses together right now as they plan for Android takeover.

As an android user who was looking to potentially switch to iOS this year, I no longer have any inclinations.

All Sammy/Google has to do next week is actually deliver. And if Verizon is involved (which rumors say it is), I think we'll start seeing some interesting changes in the market.

All in all, Apple didn't do THAT bad today. The new stuff is actually pretty good. But with the new CEO and signs of change, they could've used a bit more BANG to come at consumers and shareholders with.

I actually agree. I probably won't switch but I even posted a thread below this asking people for some other options that I can at least look at, upcoming or available now.

After keynotes I used to be so stoked..now I am just blah. I am happy about the internals but very unhappy that the phone is not thinner and has the same small screen, my watch espn app would look much better on a 4", same with my netflix. Thats the problem, in the next 6 months so many awesome apps will be put out (cable apps, hbo apps, etc..) that we can't take advantage of with such a small screen

Android did not win from the 4S announcement ..... Here's why

Can anyone help me? I just purchased the HTC Supersonic and I barely get half a day bat life. Also Android gets choppy at random times.

User3 said:
First you should root. Then you should install x. After you install x you should install y. Use y to overclock. Then install z. After you install z you should follow the 65 step procedure for better bat life. After that's done you should reboot ten times and install 123 auto task manger. Once you finish doing that reboot again and you should see a 10% increase in bat life and less choppiness than before.

User2 said:
I did what you said and keep getting a kernel panic. I can't even boot up.

User3 said:
Oh yea sorry, I forgot that you have to flash a cooked version of Banana Cream Cake first then repeat all over again.

User2 said:
What's cooked version and where do I find it?

User3 said:
Nevermind, I can't help you anymore. Enjoy your sweet device. :)

Any mention of the iPhone again and you will be permanently banned. Please read the Forum Rules. Now if you need help, I'll be more than happy to walk you through the 65 step procedure to optimize your amazing Android device too greatness.

I find it quite funny how everyone is putting so much pressure on this whole phone thing, I'm sorry but I don't exactly get disappointed when something is announced, I get disappointed if something doesn't live up to the hype after I purchase it.

As far as Android, Yeah, Android isn't that bad. To me it is definitely a neck-&-neck race when it comes to mobile devices, I'd say just get whatever you want to get and what works best for your lifestyle. :)

As a long-time iPhone user (Gen-1) and a self-proclaimed Apple fanatic, this refresh was underwhelming in the sense that it lacked the one thing I truly wanted: a larger screen.

I will, in fact, be moving to Android in the next coming weeks.

Likely, this is just a temporary move, but it's still a surprising move considering how much I've loved Apple. There were two things I wanted out of a new phone: LTE (which I didn't expect) and a larger screen (which I desperately hoped for). I can't get what I want from Apple, so I'm going across the fence to Androidville. I'll be getting a phone with 4.5" screen, 1280x720 resolution, LTE, and dual-core 1.5GHz CPU.

I think this will hold me over until I get what I want from Apple. If they don't deliver next year--my temporary lodging here in Androidville may become permanent.

Yeah, they only trail IOS by like 13% in OS marketshare and are getting further behind every day.

They have yet another phone that will outsell all android handsets this year.

That is amazing the iPhone 4S comes out in October and it will outsell all Android handsets in 2011.

Yeah Android is really going gangbusters lol!

Android phones outsell the iphone by double. Yes, the iphone outsells any individual android phone, but as whole android phone sales are destroying the iphone.

My cousin felt the same way a few months ago and went Android after selling his iPhone 4. Only a few months in and he's already tired of it because battery life is terrible. 4G and 4" screens are great...but only when you are near an outlet all day.

Apple's share has actually remained pretty steady. I'll agree that Android has had more growth but much of that has come at the expense of Blackberry and Windows Mobile, not iPhones.

That is very true. We have to see what happens when Blackberry and Windows are gone. Then it will be just iphone and android.

Nexus prime - 1280x720 superamoled HD + screen 330ppi with LTE. Game over. Retina is a gimmick, this is the real deal.

Have they moved away from the pentile grid on those OLED screens? I hate how it makes text fuzzier on my Droid.

iPhone will continue to outsell all Android devices combined. Not because of its superior technology, but it's genius marketing.

Take China for example, a market not to be underestimated, with total number of cell users exceeding the overall US population. The biggest hype there is owning an i-anything. This only started with the introduction of iPhone4, as previous versions didn't really hit China at all. So the growth potential is enormous, which reflects Apple's rapid expansion of large retail shops in Shanghai and Beijing. Speak to anybody there about an Android vs iPhone, I guaranteed you 99% of the time iPhone will be perceived as more desirable over any Android device. Again not because of its superior technology, but the simple cool factor and name recognition.

While Google writes excellent codes, they still have a lot to learn about marketing from Apple...

I bought a Samsung Galaxy SII after Apple announced the iPhone 4S.

No doubt, the 4S is a great phone, but I was looking for a phone with a 4 inch display or larger, just like many other people. Competition has become very hard in the last 12 months and you can't cope with it by introducing the same design after 16 months.

Call Apple and it's iPhone what ever you want, but not innovative. It must be feared that these times are over now.

I also bought a Galaxy S2 today. I've been waiting all year for both the GS2 and the iPhone 5. Today's announcement made it an easy decision. I'll go back to go back to iPhone next year if the iPhone 5 is the update I was hoping would be released today.

All of the new stuff in the 4S is great, but larger screen size was top priority for my next phone. 3.5 is just too small and has been bothering me ever since I tried the EVO last year.

Just watch and see. This phone will be sold out for weeks.

No amount of wishful thinking on the part of Android users (who inexplicably lurk on these MacRumor boards...out of jealousy? angst?) will make this release anything less than spectacular for Apple.

Most of the complaints on here (same screen, not enough new features, blah blah blah) were exactly the same complaints levied at the iPad 2. And you saw what a colossal failure that was. Sorry, haters, you will proved 100% wrong in short time. Apple doesn't care if you switch to Android. There will be 2 other users out there to replace you with iPhones.

I doubt the phone will be sold out for weeks. It will sell but the demand will not be as high for this marginal update especially after 16 months.

The same thing was said when the 3GS came out. Only the geeks will move to Android (then get bored/tired and come back). The rest of the world will jump on a free iPhone 3GS with contract and those locked into Apple's ecosystem will either remain on current phone/tariff or do an early upgrade outright.

I bet all the Android people are out drinking and celebrating. Or at least doing a GameStop run...

Didn't this exact same thing happen when the 3GS was announced? Rampant (unfounded) speculation, resulting in many being disappointed or feeling underwhelmed?

We've been here before, and I seriously doubt this will have droves running to android.

Android was not a factor with the 3GS. Only other thing out then was the Palm Pre. So it's not quite apples to apples.
