So it seems like there are a lot of contradictory photos about exactly what the "slate" anodized aluminum back looks like. I was expecting it to look more black, but a lot of photos show a more silver look... is that due to a flash? Here's a couple of pics.

Edit: to clear up the confusion. The photo on the right is taken from media hands on time. It's the real iPhone 5. Go take a look for yourself http://www.anandtech.com/Gallery/Album/2298#18

I'd go with the official photos, rather than the leaks.

pretty sure that photo on the right was just a mockup and actually released about a week ago. Look at the photos apple posted...it is more a charcoal

My guess is that the person who took the photo on the left got one part from the black iPhone5, and the silver part from the white iPhone5 and created a hybrid mutant iPhone5.

The metal on the black unit I've seen, albeit a pre-production test mule, was a dark gunmetal color.

Hasn't anyone bothered to check the Apple site and see for themselves? It's right there on the front page.

This will be the deciding factor for me. Most photos the phone looks totally black. If it's a silverish look on the back of the black, I DONT WANT IT.

You have to figure it will look much different in person vs at an apple demo where the lighting is perfectly manipulated.

I think the lighting must be weird in these photos. The phone looks darker in the video and on all of the official photos we've seen.

Edit: oops, got distracted while posting and missed that several others said the same thing.

Seriously, if you've ever seen a blued metal firearm, that's what the color looks like in real life.

It's very typical of black anodized aluminum on any other item you may own such as a car or bicycle.

I had my mind set on black, but if it has a silverish back, I gotta go white. That does not look good on the black.

lol i'm the exact opposite i want the silver aluminum color which is on the white one AND all Apple products...;)

I'm sort of shocked (probably shouldn't be) that only some of the people in this thread realize the visual changes in color on a surface with light shining on it from various angles. Particularly with metal objects, the perceived color will change with various reflections and directions of light and even the white balance of the camera taking the photo. The two tone surface/color is exaggerated by the light reflections at that angle.
