First of all, let's get this out of the way for all the posts that will keep us updated on how many inches they get:

That's What She Said.

Second, are we turning into a bunch of ******* in this country or is it just a slow news day? We never cared about the snow this much when I was a kid. If it came, it came and you dealt with it. Now, its 24/7 news screaming don't leave your house for days!!!!

Probably because we don't get blizzards as often now. :(

Good luck to all in the storm's path. Be safe and keep warm.

(looks at sunny blue sky and high of 79 today)

There are a few factors at play. There are always warnings when big snow storms come, but when big snow hits an area that isn't accustomed to it, it needs to be mentioned a bit more often/more forcefully. The extra information sometimes needs to be drummed into people's heads who are so arrogant to think that it is just a bit of snow. In areas not accustomed to big snow, even small amounts can paralyze infrastructure because the city isn't equipped to handle it.

But let's not forget the most important component: the sole purpose of the media in this country now seems to be ratcheting up hysteria. There is no room for calm and thoughtful analysis. Beware SNOWMAGEDDOPOCALYPSE 2013! Everybody scream!

To those in the area: be safe, be smart, and enjoy the snow.

Tons of snow here in Toronto. The reason it's a big deal is that 90% of the population think they are invincible using no-season tires... then they're surprised they get stuck and clog up traffic? (or worse, possibly hurt someone)

For me this is what winter is supposed to be like - miserable. I do enjoy driving around everyone though. Thumbs up for proper tires for conditions.

Would love to see some of that snow here!

I am set in case power goes out anyway.
1. Generator to run the things i need to
2. plenty of gas to keep it filled up
3. wood burning fireplace and plenty of wood to keep it going for a month+ straight

I am all electric so can only run certain things at once. I can run the stove to cook dinner, then water heater for taking showers, then basement power to run fans for the fireplace and freezers.

Nothing too crazy here so far. We have about an inch of snow but it's supposed to start getting heavier within the next couple of hours.

Governor Patrick just issued an executive order banning all private vehicles from the roads from 4pm today through at least 1pm tomorrow.

To those who have never really experienced a big snow, ordering all non-essential vehicles off the road sounds a bit extreme.

For those who have, for example, lived through asnything like the Mass Blizzard of '78, remember how many major highways (in my case, I was on Rt 128) were nothing but miles and miles of abandoned cars. I lucked out and found an Exit ( many were closed) and was able to slowly wend my way home after many hours. It was truly very frightening.

And then there are you guys in Buffalo with your "lake effect" snow, for whom two feet is a dusting.;):D

People in my area freak out over an inch of snow... we sometimes get a "blizzard," but they're few and far between (I remember 39" in 1995, and about 22" or so in 1998, but that was the last time anything over about 6" fell). I couldn't imagine the pandemonium here if THAT were our forecast... There wouldn't be bread or milk in ANY store within a 10 county radius! ;)

Yup.. everyone made the run on the bread, eggs, and milk the past 2 days here.

Guess they plan on riding out this storm by making a **** ton of french toast.

Storm is definitely picking up steam, the wind is strong the snow is accumulating. Looks like the weathermen got it right (for once).

I feel bad for my kids - they had two birthday parties scheduled for tomorrow which obviously got cancelled.

NBC's Weather Channel has named the storm Nemo.

No idea what they were smoking as I just don't see any correlation between a winter blizzard and a cute tropical Clown fish (or even the Latin translation, meaning "no one").

Well, they have been naming winter storms all year long now just like hurricanes. Nemo's the 14th storm I guess.

The name actually comes from the Jules Verne novel 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, not the disney movie. :p;)

MA, CT, and RI governors have all banned cars from the road. Meanwhile, the VT, NH, and ME governors are all laughing at them.

AND NO COFFEE!

This could turn tragic.

Stay tuned for updates…

Yay. The next Sandy. But in snow form.
SANDY HAS RESURRECTED!

I submitted Squilly as a storm name suggestion to the Weather Channel. I got a favorable response.

Moka pot for me. Gas stove so we don't even need power for it.

French toast sounds good for brekky tomorrow.

Looks like about 3" where I am now. I cleared an alternate path to the woodpile just in case (as if that's going to make a difference when it's all said and done.)

Ooh, that's just scary prescience!!!

I just went digging around in my kitchen and found a Bodum press I bought maybe 25 or 30 years ago!

Really starting to pick up now. Snows falling heavy. I just had a tree snap in half in my front yard. Got about 8 inches and it's rapidly increasing.

WBZ reporting a 74mph wind gust was just reported on Nantucket.

If it makes you all feel better, it's gonna be 60 degrees and sunny in my neck of the woods tomorrow. I'll post regular updates about going outside in a short sleeve shirt and listening to the birds chirp so you can all live vicariously through me. :D

Stay safe and...holy crap, two feet of snow? What's that even like? We get a quarter inch and everything shuts down around here for two days straight.
