Why not just buy one of the awesome Nav apps already available? Too cheap?....

Because google nav *****$ all over any other nav app out there! Esp if you compare free to 69.99 or 99.99.

Now granted you need a cell signal, that would be the only downsize i could see using google nav. But it does cache you whole trip as far a directions and voice.. so even without a signal you will still be told and show(Sav map terrain data) where you are going.

Why when google does it better?

I mean apple isn't about to jump into the map/satellite market and apple has shown that it doesn't desire to do everything its competitors are doing.

What advantage would providing a directions app would give apple over its competitors?

It's that kind of attitude that knocks companies out of first place. Snooze and you lose. Just saying.

I like having free options.

Me too! In fact it looks like everyone but Apple has a free navigation solution already in place. Here is Bing navigation on the HD2 for free. I wish Apple would come up with something new and "magical" for navigation or bite the bullet and slap skins with Google.

As my friends like to say, "Ya'll have those T-REX arms" 'cuz thats what it sounds like to me, those who cry free, free, free. are usually broke, broke, broke. Thats for real. IMO respectable people dont expect everything to be free....oh and the wifey has the google nav on her phone, sucks my paid NAVIGON blows her free option out of the water..just sayin' but no need to reply I'm done with this thread, I said what I needed

LMAO, you're nuts, absolutely nuts. :p

There is no way in hell anyone in their right mind could possibly think Navigon is better than the Google Navigation app built into andriod.

Google Navigation is absurdly well implemented, even the voice recognition is pitch perfect.

Cool, can ya come fix the wifes phone then, 'cuz we have issues at the wazooo with and we've been to numerous stores trying to fix our issues, PM me I'll give you our problems maybe you can help her/us out. But its barely useable for us, its gotten us lost in LA a bunch of times already!

I can't decide if you're being sarcastic in doing an imitation of an American hick or you're actually being serious. Sorry maybe my British humour just doesn't understand "ya'll" but you can't compare the Navigon app compared to the free option Google gives. Google navigation is just incredible.

That sucks. Sounds like there is a problem with your phone. I would update to the latest version of android and if it doesn't work, take it into ATT store if I were you.

Obviously, Mr. Jobs has a lot of say in what we get.

I'm just wondering when he will think that a built in navigation app is precisely what we should get.

Obviously?

In truth, Google does not allow third party to use google maps for navigation.

There are free and paid navigation apps available on iPhone.

Me too! In fact it looks like everyone but Apple has a free navigation solution already in place.

FAIL. There are free navigation apps on iPhone OS. At least 2 of them.

"free" and "options" are two words that can't be found in Apple's dictionary.

How come there are FREE APPS in the Apple App Store?

I bet it sucks in Europe where you're internationally data-roaming every 1000 kilometers.

Granted roaming with a UK sim card is expensive but buy a Spanish pay-and-go simcard, it is very reasonable. Many many times cheaper than buying an actual GPS device or buying a navigation app.

Good tip thanks! Can the Spanish sim be bought online? I don't leave anywhere close to Spain, see.

Just bough a "free" Navi app for my iPhone 3GS, its on special at moment NDrive (for Uk anyway) and was £5 GBP, now thats not bad for a full specced Navi app.

tried it briefly and it looks and feel really good, speed cams, 3D landmarks, full postcode search, loads of POis, Car, pedestrian modes etc.

I actually have a full integrated sat nav in my car, but thought for a fiver that I would buy this for back.

Talk about typical fan boy response.

What developers price their items at is their choice.

The free navigation apps on the iPhone suck.
The built-in navigation app for Android isn't much quality either.

But I'd love to see more reliance on native features over third party apps.

What developers price their items at is their choice.
And Apple gives developers the choice of 86 different price tiers, one of which is free. Sounds very much like free and options, at least in this case, are in Apple's dictionary.

P.S.: :D

"Ya'll" is slang, wouldn't expect you to know, you're not from here. You're over in Beautiful England, I know I can't undertsand what your natives say when I visit my buddy to go to Man U games :)

I was being serious, the google nav on her phone is horrid. We've reinstalled OS's, we've tried every tip from her cell company, and nada....so we use my Navigon, which works flawlessly compared to the goolge one that doesn't work. I'm glad in YOUR opinion its miles ahead, but when it doesn't work for me and my family, Navigon spits on googles nav app....because Navigon works for us. I'm glad you have success with the google nav, we don't unfortunately

1000 kilometers = 621.4 miles.

Spoken like a true redneck who never ventured outside his home state.

In case you're wondering I live in the Central Europe so I know what I'm talking about. Anyway, what does your little conversion excercise have to do with anything?

Sorry, as a born Southerner, misuse of this is a pet peeve.

It's _ y'all _ which is a contraction of "you all".

It's also always used in the plural, just as it sounds. To one person, a Southerner usually says "How are you?" If a Southerner ever says to one person, "How are y'all doing?", they actually mean you and your family.

Texans (and I am one) go one step further with the wonderful _ all y'all _ , which addresses many people and their families... and/or everyone you ever met or cared about.

So a Texan who's about to talk before a huge crowd might say to his wife, "How are you doing?" ... then spot a family and ask, "How are y'all doing?" ... and finally yell over the microphone to the crowd, "How are ALL y'all doing?!?".

Now you know. :)

respectable people? I tried navigon and it sucked and apparently most people think that 99 dollar navigation is overpriced because the prices are dropping like a rock. I don't expect anything for free and pay my bill every month. The arguement is simple, every other competing OS has an integrated navigation solution and IMO apple needs to have a solution if google is not going to be a map partner. The stock maps app is google not apple and sooner rather than later google isn't going to help anymore. Then what?
