I'm moving to Montréal in a few weeks, and most likely will buy an iPhone 4.. Does anyone know about waiting lines there? And is the bargaining power better for a new subscriber there or harder for fees?

and is it possible to get a specific number (say, get a prefix like 416 or a memorable number) in any way? (can be with a fee) It'll be my new number I wanna have a good number.. In some countries they have that service, is it possible in Canada?

Coming from a country with a cellphone brand that has the amount of subscribers as the total of Canada population, I'm kinda new for the environment there, any help would be appreciated :)
There is currently a pricing war going on in Quebec, so the consumer is winning right now. A lot of very cheap plans including unlimited.

As for a specific number, not really. We have area codes, which are the first three numbers of a 10 digit phone number. For Montreal you have 2 choices, 514 and (the newer) 438.

Depending on the store and carrier you choose, the rep might give you several choices of numbers to choose from. But you really can't go out and say "I want this number....." they wouldn't give it to you. But you might be able to choose your area code.

After weeks of searching I fond one in Charlottetown PEI

I've been searching for an iPhone 4 in the Toronto area for weeks now and I finally got one at the Charlottetown Mall in PEI. We flew in late Friday night for Thanksgiving and I called the two Rogers dealers on Saturday to see if they had any iPhones. The one in the Charlottetown Mall had one 32GB model available. I was told that they received 12 on Friday and they still had one left. I raced down to their store and grabbed it. I'm back at home now and I'm syncing my new iPhone as I write this. :D

Lucky guy!! ;)

Congrats! Have fun with it.... It's perfect timing! Even the jailbreak is out now for 4.1!

and I was beginning to get discouraged, I read many threads stating that there would not be another released until 4.2.

When buying my phone, I had the mindset that I'd be JBing my iPad long before we even saw an updated jb for the iP4.

I am a happy camper!:D

Well ur gonna need a data plan for sure!
Facetime can only be done over Wifi for now. As for picture messaging, you can get a MMS plan. In my opinion the MMS plans are not really worth it since there are SO many other ways of sharing pictures as long as you have a data plan.

As far as I know the Rogers and Fido units are interchangable...

Please correct me if I'm wrong, anyone...

No longer true with firmware 4.0.2 and above. Earlier reports were that all carrier locked iP4s were auto-locked to whichever SIM it first activated, but the 4.0.2 put an end to that...if it were ever true to begin with.

For those still looking for an iPhone 4 in Vancouver, I walked by the Virgin Mobile booth at around 12pm today at Brentwood Mall and they had iPhone 4s in stock.

No one wants to go with a crappy carrier like Virgin, which bills by the minute on monthly plans. Telus and especially Bell have stock as well, but I'm hardly surprised since few people want to sign up for new 3-year plans with them.

hey..they are scam. stay away from topincart or novo trade or apple2007. i've paid a month ago but still didnt get my iphone. i was dealing with their customer service Tomer. they were being very nice at first. but once they get my money, my email was ignored. they dont even entertain my question anymore. they also deleted my negative comment on their website. when i ask for my tracking number, they give so many excuses. and now, they want me to pay more for shipping... HUH

Correct me if I'm wrong but don't all the carriers charge per minute on monthly plans....except Fido??

Hey everyone, the major issue right now with Rogers is their 3G network.

From coast to coast, people have been subject to slowdowns and outages. I think it's ridiculous that Rogers keeps denying anything is wrong.

Either their 3G networks can't handle all the new iPhone data users, or something is up. Either way, 3G in Vancouver has been slow as a slug lately.

With rumours of Rogers introducing a Priority Data Service ($10/month)...I really hope these guys can get their act together.

What about you guys?

I will be travelling to the US for 3 months in the winter and I have an iPhone 4. I have no interest in the huge cost of US voice and data roaming packages so I would like to get a pay-as-you-go Sim card and package. Any suggestions on packages and service providers. Also any suggestions on what to turn on/off on the phone to avoid accidental charges.

I haven't noticed any slow downs lately at all, even earlier today. However, now I can't even get a call or text through let alone access data. Seems to be a nation wide issue, I find it highly amusing the way Rogers is ignoring the issue. Customer service is apparently telling people they need to reset or restore their phone, even suggesting new SIM cards. Honestly, given the scope of the outtage how stupid do they think people are?

+1 my reception sucks the last couple days too!

I wonder what's going on?

I want to return my iphone 4, I don't really like it after all. I bought it at futureshop on monday night, used about 24 minutes of talk time (now the phone is turned off) and about 50mb of data (to try it, couple youtube videos). I heard that to cancel the contract or change phone (not for another iphone), telus/futureshop wants it under 14 days and less than 30 minutes used. Am I correct? What about the data used? Moreover, the reception is bad in my house, I only get 1 bar and sometimes it is searching for service...as with my friend's htc desire, it is all ok.

I am trying to find information about this, but I can't. Anyone experienced this?

Greedy Canadian carriers.

Nope, they will force you to sign up for a data plan if you want the phone for $159 + tax. Data plan will cost you at least $20/month and I'm not sure if it will work with your family plan. Call them up and they will tell you what they can do for you. But the data plan will be required.

14 days and less than 30 minutes is the criteria for return at Fido... might be the same for Telus.

My mom's phone was well over the 14 days and way more than 30 minutes on her phone...think she had it for almost a month with probably close to 500 minutes. A lot of times it just depends on the rep or the mood they're in that day.

Question about pricing

Hi guys!! I have a Canadian friend who happens to be in Toronto for a few days and he kindly asked If I need the i4 unlocked, to be used here in Italy.
Well I'm still with the original i1, so YES!
Could you please clarify to me if the prices that I see at the Canadian Apple Store Online ( 659 16GB and 779 for the 32GB) are tax included or not? Are they the same prices offered by the apple store at the Eaton Center?
Thanks a lot and a Happy New Year!

No, those arent Tax included. Add 13% HST to that price

so 16GB is 744.67
and 32GB is 880.27

And yes prices are the same at all Apple stores
