Do you guys think Rogers will get the iPhone 5 in the first round of launches? I believe they got the iPhone 4 late.

Are you referring to the canadian launch in general for the iPhone 4? Weird last year that they weren't part of the initial launch in June and instead launched on July 30th. I would think if the US launch is in September this year that they'll be ready to have multiple countries ready for day 1.

So do you guys think we will also be getting the White iPhone 4 on the 27th??

SKU's have been popping up over the last month for some retail chains (Source, Future Shop, etc.), but it's not a likely indicator of stock on the 27th. Unless Apple announces something tomorrow I don't think we'll know until the 27th whether or not it will be available. For the most part, I don't think an imminent "launch" has been communicated to any retail stores. I think if we get it here it will be a slow roll out mixed with regular shipments of iPhone 4's with the exception of Apple Stores. If there's not a lot of buzz tomorrow or reports of local stores receiving shipments, I think it would be a safe to assume it's not "launching" on the 27th.

I doubt it. Considering the staggered release of the iPhone 4 and iPad 2, I wouldn't be surprised if future product launches follow in the same manner.

We'll probably get it a month after the US does. Like previous models. In a way it's better though. The iPhone 4 had all those problems when first released and everyone had to wait for updates in order to actually make their phones useable. We didn't really have that problem as we got them a month later.

So I decided to resurrect this thread since I'm going to be going to Canada to start school in about 2 months, and I know nothing about Canadian cell companies. Anyway, I already have an iPhone 3G that is unlocked and I'd like to avoid a contract. What carrier has the best deals, customer service, and coverage? I'll be in Alberta, I'll probably have wifi most of the time so I don't need a lot of data do any carriers offer a cheap 50-100mb data plan? Also are any of the carriers better than the others as far as the cost for long distance calls to the US, I'd like to be able to call home cheaply.

The main carriers are:

Bell
Rogers (owns Fido)
Fido
Telus

They all operate 3G networks, Bell and Telus built theirs jointly and launched it a little over a year ago I believe, so it would be the least saturated in terms of users. As far as I know, you can't use an iPhone on pay as you go without a data plan in Canada, so that means to use it as a phone, you'll have to get into a contract as well as get a data plan, in which case you may as well get an iPhone 4 from whichever carrier you sign up with at a subsidized price. As you'll be in Alberta, that is Telus country, although the others have coverage out there too, I'd talk to Telus first.

I'm a 3G User from Ontario, Tri-City kitchener area.

I'm an ex rogers user, and have a locked Rogers iPhone. 16GB.

I switched to Telus as they have a much more affordable Dataplan, plus unlimited texting. I use ultrasn0w.
No regrets. at all. Not as good service, barwise but still get 3-4 bars.

Also you can use an iPhone on a prepaid plan. (Telus anyway) I use telus prepaid. I just bought the simcard and went. If I can't afford 20$, I have my 10$ and even $5 options. You can't buy an iPhone from telus to use on prepaid, though. They'll make you get an actual plan.

Telus seems to have the cheapest plan ever. Prepaid 250MB and Unlimited Texting is 20$.

Wifi problems after upgrade to iOS 4.3.2

Hi!

ever since upgrading my iPhone 4 to iOS 4.3.2 a few months ago I have lost my WiFi capabilities on my phone. AP won't show in Networks, sometimes "No WiFi" will show greyed out in settings. Upgrade to 4.3.3 did not solve this problem for me.

Yes, my home network is working fine. Other WiFi's outside my home won't work either.

Apple forum has several people posting with the same issue.

Any of you have same issues?

Tom

Thanks, for telling me about that plan it sounds like a pretty good deal, 250MB is more than enough considering I should have wifi most of the time. Do you know if it's possible to order a sim from them either on the phone or online and have it delivered to my house in the US so I've got a phone once I cross into Canada?

Try doing a full restore with 4.3.3 and if that doesn't work, go visit an Apple store. If you bought your phone in Canada, you still have a factory hardware warranty for at least another 30 days.

I'll be moving to Canada as well for university and I'll be going to Vancouver. I've researched what each carrier has to offer, however I only know the amount of data, minutes, messages and the price they have. I was wondering if you could give me any insight as to which carrier has better 3G and customer service.

Telus and Bell use the same network so their 3g is the same.

Rogers is good as well.

As far as customer service goes, I find Bell (affectionately known as bHELL) has the worst.

There is absolutely NO competition here in terms of mobile carriers. The big "3" all have the exact same pricing, coverage, etc.

Koodo is going to be getting the iPhone in July as well, at least in Ontario (Toronto and Vancouver already have it at Koodo shops). I'm sure other provinces will soon follow. You can either get a contract with their iPhone specific plans or pay for most of the phone outright with the rest on a 'Tab' - in this case you can pick whatever plan you want and use the 'Data Saver' in which you only pay for the data you use each month. I'm not sure how it would work if you already have an iPhone, you'd have to inquire about that with them. Since they now (or will soon) support it, it should be fine.

I know some people aren't crazy about Koodo but I've been with them for quite a while now after being with Rogers, which really wasn't that great, hence the switch and I'm really enjoying Koodo's service. They have some decent plans and I was able to get a Blackberry without a data plan for $0 with just $150 on my tab plus a $100 Visa gift card. I just really like the keyboard for texting but I only use my phone for talk and text so I didn't want data. I love not being locked into a contract anymore!

There's really no single correct answer for which carrier is best to choose.. The best thing to do is research all your options and choose a plan thats best for your needs. I had to do the same recently and chose a plan from Koodo that was month to month and I'm using it with an iPhone 4 right now.

There are multiple carriers, but when it comes down to it there really just 2 networks you can choose between. Rogers/Fido and Bell/Virgin, Telus/Koodo. For month to month plans I found fido, virgin and koodo to have the best options. They are supposed to be "discount" brands but at the end of the day they use the same network and get access to the same data and speeds, while having much better non-contract options.

The one thing I liked about koodo as well is the data saver add on. Starts at $5 and goes up as you use more, which would work out great if you are covered in wifi quite often and only use 50-100MB. Virgin may have something similar to this as well.

Up to 5MB = $5 / 5MB-100MB = $10 / 100MB-200MB = $15 / 200MB-300MB = $20 / 300MB-500MB = $25 / 500MB-1GB = $30 / >1GB = $30 + 2¢/MB above 1GB

Not true as I am currently going pay as you go with rogers on my iPhone 4 without a data plan. Both Rogers an Telus are fine with it. Then again, I didn't get my phone from rogers, I got it sealed off kijiji. Then switched my Pay as You go plan onto my iPhone. Again you can use Pay as You Go with an iPhone 4.

Yeah definitely I'd think so, anyway. You can in Canada,

http://www.telus.com/regionselect.html
Select USA, Head over to prepaid, there should be an option of buying just the simcard.

You could even probably setup your plan in the states, as well as they accept credit card for payments, not just those dinky little pre-paid cards in stores.

Caller ID and Voicemail is included with all prepaid phone plans.
Canada Roaming, too.

Uhm. Calling voicemail is an air-rate of 20c /min though,

3G Streaming works o.o

For those in Quebec, it appears that Bell, Telus and Rogers have 6GB data plan back for the remainder of this month to compete against Videotron. It's not showing up on any of their websites, so it's likely a store-only promotion right now.

In Manitoba - MTS has Unlimited Data plans, plus unlimited data + tethering, Sasktel has Unlimited data option, but I don't think it includes tethering.
