Now, that being said how do you feel about using a GSM phone on Bell?? What happens when you are out of a 3g area? Or switch 3g off?? Does the phone not work?? I'll be going to Rogers for this fact alone, the legacy network stability....

My experience in the year that I've had my iPhone 3GS with Rogers has been wonderful. I get blazing fast speeds about 99% of the time, download speeds topping 5.55 Mbps. That's pretty impressive. Other times I usually get anywhere from 2 - 4 Mbps, sometimes it will dip to 1-1.5 Mbps. The only time I have problems is when I'm at my cottage where there is no service. :D

Everywhere I go I get great speeds. The Rogers network is pretty darn fast around here.

Waterloo here, can't wait for the new iPhone.

Won't put my 32g 3GS on kijiji until after I get my new phone, hoping it doesn't drop in value too much a few days after launch.

if i were you i would put it a week before the launch date, and yes i will be putting it a week before the launch :D

I just put mine on today. Oh man if it sells quickly then it will be a painful wait for the iPhone 4.

Going out with my iPhone will feel like I'm going outside naked. :D

It will sell quick. Last year I listed my 16gb 3G right around the GS launch and I had like 5-6 queries in a day and the phone was sold in 2-3 days. And if it's unlockable, the better value it holds

I'm going to be spending a lot of time in Waterloo next year, how are Rogers' 3G speeds compared to Toronto?

The $30 unlimited data plan you are on then is the BB data plan (same as I have), and BB data and smartphone data are 2 different beasts. BB data is compressed data, so theres no trouble going unlimited, as its not much usage regardless. Regular data for the rest of the smartphone world is not as compressed, hence you still see alot of unlimited BB data plans, and that unlimited plans apply to BB only, and the rest is capped for higher usage.

I've had to switch my unlimited data a couple times in the last 3 years, even my PPC data wasn't applicable to the BB. You just simply cannot apply your BB unlimited plan to any other phone, you will be forced to change it because its just not the same thing.

I know for a fact that if you have a BB data plan and change the APN settings on your phone, you can make it work on any phone, not just the BB.
Plus, before the iPhone came out, Bell was actually offering a $30 unlimited smartphone package also which was for the non BBs. They do specify that you are suppose to only use the phone you are "authorized" to use, but i know many people who are using various phones and haven't been charged yet for it.

And regarding Stability, my wife has a 3G BB 9700 on Bell. She's NEVER had any issues with it. Even when we've gone up north she has decent signal without any issues.

not so good. Unless they updated their network in last 6 months or so. I used to get like ~600 kbps in my house, and maybe like 1.5 mbps in downtown area. When i went to toronto, i was getting close to 3 Mbps. However, Telus network is AWESOME here, i get like 5 Mbps here at my house, and at most places its between 2.5 - 5 Mbps. And their upload speeds are quite good as well.

what about Brampton? who has a good network here?

Hey friend,

if I were you I would select only Rogers or Bell.

I'm on Rogers and for the most part I have either an edge signal or 3g signal 99.9% of the time.

Write back and let us know what you decide.

I have a 32GB Black iPhone 3GS that I got last year on launch day - June 19th. I've had it in a case almost 24/7 and have a screen protector on it that I put on it on launch day as well. I've got the box, earbuds (never used them), USB cable, manuals, charger etc. It will be hard to part with the box because I love my Apple boxes. :D

How much could I get for it? How fast would it sell?

Like I mentioned earlier I tested the waters on www.kijiji.ca and had offers all day between $475 - $500 for a year old 3Gs.

Yesterday i called Rogers to see if I could have my 3gs serviced for all the dust under the screen before my warrenty wore out. (a favour for the person who buys my iPhone in the coming weeks) the rep offered to send me a referb unit instead. Even better for the lucky person who buys my iPhone as I'll still try to sell it for the same price.

Just thought I'd let all the Rogers customers out there know that they can check www.rogers.com and then click on their Red Board for all the latest news Rogers has to offer. A gentlemen by the name of Keith usually answers all of questions set forth to Rogers.

Check it out, it's pretty neat!

Keith's the head of social media for Rogers, he's pretty good at answering questions and helping customers out. That said, he doesn't know anything specific about the iPhone 4 (that he's allowed to say) and until and official announcement he won't go into details. Hope we find stuff out soon though, with the announcement that Softbank in Japan will not be carrying the white iPhone 4 and specifically saying they have no idea when it will be available, I'm quite nervous about whether we'll have it in Canada at launch. I know it's just one carrier in the world but seeing as how we're a smaller market those things always make me nervous.

What's odd is that on Wikipedia (keep in mind it is Wikipedia) is that in the article for "retina display" it says that the iPhone 4 will be shipping in 8 countries on June 24. Someone at Apple edited the page and is giving us a hint! :D

Yo man. are you serious?? 2-4 mbps?? Which area do you live? I'm from Alberta, speed here sucks...normally I get between 450 -800 kbps...

I don't know about any of you guys but, I have been checking rogers.com twice a day for the last couple weeks seeing if there is any new info under my upgrade section. Up until today it has just been blank, saying nothing. Now it says that I can upgrade any time I like....but only to no-term pricing.

That sucks, it makes me feel that Rogers has already decided not to give any of us early adopters of the 3GS any price breaks....only full price at the $700 or $800 range.

I really hope I'm wrong though....but from going from having no info for weeks to having only no term pricing, right around the time they might announce what they are planning with the new iPhone 4 makes me wonder.

Check your own accounts on rogers.com and report back.

Thanks everyone!

I checked mine but it says the same as always. I can upgrade my phone but when I click on that it only shows me regular cell phones no smartphones. I also have "upgrade to iPhone" when I click on that it says "you may be eligible to upgrade to one of these iPhones". Then it just shows the 3GS and tells me to contact a customer care rep. So what exactly do you see?

I am anxiously waiting for them to announce the details of the release. Both my phone lines are eligible but I'm only upgrading one, so I can upgrade to iPhone 5 and then iPhone 6 and then... ;)

OMG now when I check my upgrade section, it went back to saying nothing at all....it says you can upgrade to the following phones...but there is absolutely no pictures of any phones at all. When I select upgrade to iPhone...mine says the exact same thing as what yours says.

I don't know anymore, what the heck Rogers is going to do...all I hope is that either I can get the iPhone 4 at a discounted price or they at least let me purchase the phone out right at the full retail cost on launch day!

In Newfoundland, Rogers is very unreliable. My sister moved back home from Ottawa this month and brought with her her iPhone 3GS plan with Rogers.
Reception was so bad that she couldn't get a signal at her house or various places around the city. She called and complained and they agreed to terminate her contract early. (She only signed it maybe 8 months ago.) I couldn't believe that they agreed to it, but she's getting out of her Roger's contract and returning to Telus. (Like myself.)

I had always heard that Rogers cell service in Newfoundland is more like nation-wide bragging than an actual service, but I didn't realize it was that bad!

Apple needs to announce Canadian plans immediately.

I'm with you on needing to announce the Canadian plans ASAP....Did you hear all the white iPhone 4 are out of stock....

That is probably going to make it even worse for us Canadians when the launch happens over here next month. ;(

My fellow Canadians...
the iPhone will now be sold unlocked!!!! According to Apple's website it says

When you purchase your iPhone from the Apple Online Store, you’ll get it commitment-free. So you can sign up for service with the carrier of your choice and change your carrier at any time. Questions? Call our iPhone experts at 1-800-MY-APPLE.

This rocks! I'm still going to buy through a carrier either rogers or fido so I can get the subsidized prices. I can't wait to get my hands on one, only one month to go.

But how would that work, if rogers, fido use a sim and bell and telus don't?
