Good luck! Why would they give you anything at retentions if you have already re-signed for another 3 years when you picked up the phone? They'll just say sorry sir.

Think about it.

That does make sense, yes I agree. I'm not going to be calling the retention line though. I just want a few things changed on my plan, like right now I have way too many daytime minutes and I could really do without Voicemail.

you think about it.

if you call rogers and threaten to leave

if you leave

they get $500

if you stay they get

3 years X $50 or more a month

rogers will do anything to keep you from moving....especially to bell.

i call and negotiated 3 months into a 3 year signed contract.

think about it.

LMAO! Do you honestly think they dont know people are planning on doing this and that their gonna tighten up on the discounts they hand out?

Look back 3-4pages you see how many people have failed at retentions ALREADY!

Here is another good fact for you.. How many people do you think have $500 to spare after buying a 200$ phone in order to cancel a contract? And then go and sign up for another "new" contract.

Lol the average canadian cant pay for something thats $100-200$ in cash. Yet alone cancel a contract for $500, ya sure put it on the credit card eh ;)

Totally agree with you.

Only people that truly get good plans through retentions are the people who have been customers for at least the length of one 3 year contract. Some people can flip to a more plan that is more in line with the current offerings, but the truly good retentions plans are those that have been around for a while.

they failed because they were not persistent.

i have done it for friends too and it works every time.

i have $500 to spare, and most people do if there getting screwed they will leave.

if you can afford a $300 device but not a $500 cancellation...maybe your priorities need to be changed....eh?

ps. rogers is not going to call a bluff in retentions.

So I called up Rogers again and a different guy said that they DO HUP over the phone, and he said they really have no clue when it will be placed in their inventory. He said once it shows up in their inventory its fair game on their phone sales and online.

He also said they wont have information on stock levels at a national level.

@ esadb

I called Rogers yesterday and I had absolutely no problem getting a retention plan. I still had 1 year left on my contract, too, so it's not like I was a completely free agent or anything. And I never explicitly threatened to move to another carrier either. I just said I would be upgrading to the iPhone 4 and that I was waiting for the carriers to reveal their pricing plans, but if there was anything they could offer me now, I'd be willing to renew my contract. I then gave them some details about my usage patterns, and they made me an offer. It was super easy. In 10 minutes I had a plan I was happy with, for almost 20 bucks less than I've been paying for the last 2 years.

If I could get a better deal, anyone can.

Lol I guess you dont fall under the average canadian then.

Post what you got your friends and yourself for plans, lets see how good the plan is.

PS. I know you can write whatever you want and lie about discounts left and right, but ill take your word on it with what you share with us.

Hey guys,

First of all I would like to thank you for such a great forum to get all of our iPhone4 questions answered. I'm hoping someone can clear this up for me.

I am currently with Telus and I have 17 months remaining on my 3yr contract. Telus has offered me $300 off the regular iPhone price if I renew into another 3yr. I don't have an iPhone right now (BlackBerry and BlackBerry plan).

What I'm wondering is... if I buy an unlocked iPhone4 from the Apple Store would Telus let me activate it and switch my plan to an iPhone plan even though I am in the middle of my contract?

I am tempted to buy unlocked as $300 off is not much of an incentive.

Please let me know. Thanks!

BTW - I will be lining up at the Pacific Centre Apple Store in Vancouver tonight in case anyone wants to say hi - follow me on Twitter for updates - @pixelatedmind

What phone and plan do you have?

I'm on the CDMA network and when I called about the switch they didn't do anything to match my current plan. I'm going to call loyaly today and see cause as it is right now I'd be losing 400min plus free evenings and weekends from 5pm and fav fives.

see above.

im not interested in arguing, call me a liar if you want, regardless what you call me, im still paying 56.11 a month for 150$ worth of features.

Fair enough dude! Props. Very nice plan.

So when you call *611, you get into what account changes? And then explain to them youd like a better plan? Or just ask to be transferred over to retentions?

just design the plan you want, call and threaten you got a better plan from bell (which i did get a better plan) and tell them what you go and watch them match your plan.

all the stuff i was offered from bell and some was thrown in for them to keep me.

Does that not show $91.11 a month?

read the discounts

Okay, but where exactly did you bargain with them? Under retentions? Account Changes?

call and say i want to move to bell, you will get to the right person, you will know because they will ask why you want to switch and what they can do to keep you.

you may explain it and they might say " we will get someone to process this " and send you to customer care / retentions which will again ask you the same question but can actually make the deals happen.

ps. go to bells site, 1000 canada wide long distance is $100 , they gave it to me for $10 and further discounted my data to make it free, thats what i call customer care.

Cool, i did this before. But im gonna try and aim for better, this will be the 3rd time im extending my contract and its actually extending it at the end of my contract not like 4-5months in.
