I remember reading somewhere of the idea that 'James Bond' is a codename assumed by a succession of spies, in the same way that different Secret Service personal have used the M and Q titles over the years. In this instance, Craig's Bond could potentially be a newly assigned agent, given the Bond name and number after his predecessor (presumably Brosnan) was either killed or retired.

Supposedly this is SUPPOSED to be the first Bond in the series - the storyline. Furthermore, Craig is supposed to be a more robust, tougher hardlined bond - more combat skills - than the others. The girl melts his heart. Before this happens morality its a discussion between him and villians - so he's not soft. I like the line in the making of videos on iTunes where M says "I knew we chose you too soon" kinda sets up the ability for the next actor to be a bond, should this movie fail.;)

> I think this Bond will do the best since Octopussy or GoldFinger.

Warning - I'm a huge Bond fan, so please keep that in mind whilst reading.....

The attempt with Royale is to reset the franchise. James Bond is a person, not a generic name. We are seeing this man for the first time - Brosnan, Connery, Moore, et al, never existed - they are all the same guy. You have to suspend all the knowledge you have about the series and who all has carried the role. Which wouldn't be too difficult - if they hadn't casted Dench as M again. I'm surprised they didn't opt for a CG Desmond Llewelyn to play Q a la Yoda in Star Wars.

I agree with Doctor Q - it's a bit silly to say "ok, here is how Bond - the commie spying secret agent got his start - in the year 2006.

I've always thought that modernizing Bond was a bad move. The cold war was the era of spies, not the modern world and the wars in the middle east. The idea of a super secret agent doesn't really apply

As far as Daniel Craig playing Bond, I love it. Top actor. I remember the first time I saw a preview in theaters, it was just him beating the s**t out of some guy in a bathroom, then the Bond music played. Bond is supposed to be ruthless, but cool. Like Abstract said, you can't get much cooler than Craig looks in that promo photo.

Looking forward to the movie.

I agree with your thinking as well as your excellent taste in football teams.

Were we perhaps separated at birth? ;)

I'm a big Bond fan, and I'll go see the film regardless of who plays 007. I admit, I wasn't too fond of the new Bond initially, but after the trailer, it looks promising. Casino Royale is a cool name too.

I'm a big, big, big Bond fan. I loved the Brosnan Bond, Tomorrow Never Dies was one of my all-time favorite movies and at first I didn't like Daniel Craig because I couldn't imagine a blond Bond.

But I liked the trailer a lot and I'm definitely going to watch the movie.

I dont know why, but I get this HUGE feeling that its gonna be a 2+ hour Sony commerical.

Hmm, lets see why.

Every single Sony product in my store (BB) has a friggin promotion for the movie.

I guarantee you wont see a Dell or any other machine in this movie, nor an iPod.

I think I'm going to the 12:01am showing tonight, will post when I get back.

Rotten tomatoes has it at 94% with over 70 reveiwers.

Needless to say I am hopeful and excited.

I bought my tickets for my best friend and me (we're bond fanatics) for 6:45PM tomorrow.

I'm thrilled. I'll show up at 5:45ish probably :)

Ok, just got back from the midnight showing. It's now a little after 3am.

First thing, it's a million times better than the last Bond film (although that wouldn't be hard). They have gotten away from blowing up everything that moves just for the effect, thankfully.

The movie is a little long for me, it runs 2 hours 24 minutes. Should have been cut by about 15 minutes, as there are places where it drags.

Overall, very good and Craig makes a good bond, very gritty.

I don't want to spoil it for anyone but I will answer questions if prompted.

Also, for those going to see it, try to see if you can spot a brief glimpse of a famous British billionaire.

Picked up my tickets yesterday. Will be seeing tonight about 8pm-ish.

A little background: I'm a huge Bond fan. I own and have read all the novels, movies, etc. Pretty much anything Bond over the years. People refuse to play Scene It! Jame Bond Edition with me because once I get a turn I run the board and win the game. :)

Obviously my expectations are pretty high but I'm not blind to what makes an enjoyable movie versus a good Bond movie. I'm pretty stoked and fingers-crossed; I'm jazzed about the return of a grittier, harder Bond. :D

I've just come back from the cinema and can honestly say that Casino Royale is an excellent movie and Daniel Craig plays Bond magnificently.

Like swiftaw says they've moved away from all the special effects and have gone for character and plot which does make the movie. The humour aspect associated with Bond movies is far more intelligent than with previous movies.

Highly recommended to go and see.

All I can say is Wow.
Craig is a fabulous Bond, the film was great. I loved every minute of it.
I'm glad that he's signed up for another 2 films.

Other than that i'm pretty speechless. I WILL be going to see it for a 2nd and possibly a 3rd time.

I wouldn't be considered a huge Bond fan, as I haven't seen any of the older movies, and just a couple of the most recent movies. All the same, I really enjoyed this movie. I'm not the type of person to sing the praises of every movie, like a few of my friends are; I was really satisfied with this movie. Very entertaining, and, I'd say, worth the $8.50 I paid.

I'll say this:

You know how in the last movie they had invisible cars and sharks with frickin' lasers on their heads? Well, that whole attitude is gone, and not missed.

Two thumbs up.

There's only one short part in the movie that I didn't like, when Bond drove a Ford. That was painfull. James Bond doesn't drive Fords! Even rentals!

Eva Green was both hot, and could act. That was a nice change. I really didn't like Halle in the last film.

I wonder who'll they'll get to play Q?

Great movie. Craig is a suave, scary bastard and the action sequences were some of the best stuntwork I've seen from Hollywood in ages. George Lucas doesn't know what he's missing.

I hope they can keep this level of quality in the future films.

What was wonderful about that scene was how smoothly he ended up in a more expensive vehicle. Craig's Bond has a wonderfully dark sense of humor. The way the torture sequence played out was downright brilliant.

Just got back from it. Not bad. The Venitian 'sinking house' was pretty dumb though. The 'scratch my balls' scene was pretty darn funny, although every male in the audience was cringing in their seat.

I wasn't cringing...

Did anyone like the chase scene with Sebastian Foucan? (Crazy stuff on the construction site). I thought it was wonderful and showed the ultimate side of parkour. Most of those stunts Sebasian could actually do.

Two thumbs way, way up.

Daniel Craig was a damn near perfect Bond, blonde hair and all. I loved the fact the writers/director show that Bond could and would succumb to rage. I also loved that he was a total bad ass, but believable. Not like in the last "movie" where Bond casually gets into a sword fight with an olympic fencer and not only holds his own, but wins.

The only thing I was a little disappointed in was the opening sequence - only because there were no naked, slithering women silhouettes amongst all that cool poker stuff going on. The Chris Cornell song worked though, I thought.

I'm going to see it again for sure.
