just been to see Casino Royale - and all i can say is this is a new bond for a new generation.

me and my mrs loved it , for some reason unkown to me my mrs just loves the new bond

good story, solid acting IMO and excellent action scenes makes this one bond film a cut above the rest -

roll on the next bond movie

Saw it yesterday in Lincoln with a bunch of mates. It was excellent! (Once the idiots at the front got thrown out for screaming and fighting  )

Uber

Saw it on opening night, with the girlfriend, who's not a Bond fan.

I thought it was the best Bond film yet (no kidding), and she was "very impressed". we both want to see it again :D

I'm fairly familiar with Bond movies, having watched the SpikeTV marathons every holiday season. Most of my memories from childhood are from the Moore ones, which are ok. But my favorite is still GoldenEye.

Casino Royale was definitely nothing what I expected. There was a great deal more development on characters/relationships. Alot of reviews said there was a ton of action, but what I took away from this movie was that I actually remembered more of what Bond said than what he did. Which is very odd for me, but I attribute that to the fact that Bond doesn't use much in terms of gadgets in this movie.

E.g. last few Bond movies I remember the car he drove in Tomorrow Never Dies via the hand-held remote. Or in GoldenEye, his laser (et al) equipped watch. Off the top of my head, I don't think I remember a single thing like the aforementioned that was used in this movie. All Craig had available to use were his physical blunt force and his smarts.

Does anyone know what Vesper's phone looked like? I've forgotten and in the 'iPhone in Casino Royale' thread we're really stumped. :(

Great movie! I was actually prepared for disappointment, but I was quite impressed. It's really very good. It made it more realistic that they dispensed with the ridiculous gadgets. I think my favourite scene is the one at the very beginning where Bond leaps about on the crane.

Thought the careful inclusion of the Vaio and SonyEricsson markings on the phones and computers a bit exagerated though.

It's funny to me that I'm like the only person on planet Earth that doesn't mind a little product placement. I realize it's pure advertising, but still.

I'd rather see Bond using a regular Sony phone than a no name, super duper secret agent phone that has a laser, parachute, champagne refrigerator, and can turn every one within a 2 meter circle invisible.

Makes it all a bit more believable to me.

I should mention that most of the theater burst out in laughter when they saw Bond driving a Ford--my friends and I included. That said, this movie did have many intentional (or unintentional?) comedic moments.

Same at the movie I went to. Everyone was like, what the crap?

Went and saw it after watching the painfully bad Stranger Than Fiction crapfest of a movie. Loved it. Being a designer by trade, I was quite intrigued by the opening credits sequence. Pretty darn cool. Wonder how many hours that took to put together...

Overall, my favorite Bond movie ever. Wasnt too thrilled when I heard Craig was going to be Bond, but he did an excellent job. And I for one am happy with the lack of gadgets. They had gotton way too crazy over the years. Gonna have to check it out again.

Yeah, I wondered the same thing. It's really quite intricate.

As much as I love the astons and as much as I love John Cleese, this film neither needed more of them nor would it have been as good with those elements increased.

Yes, there were quite enough car scenes in the movie as it is. I thought that they found a nice balance between action scenes and psychological suspense - adding more chase scenes and such would not have made the movie better, but very likely worse.

Very beautiful indeed.

If Bond must drive an American car at least they could have made it a Mustang Cobra or something. I guess they were going with the realism of what you really get when you rent something... Or maybe it was a joke on themselves by going with an incredibly lame car for laughs, given Bonds well known history for driving bitchin cars.

Well, the modern Q wouldn't have made a good match to the edge of this film I agree, but I'm not a fan of the kitted up Aston. I think the point of Bond cars are stock looking exotic cars with weaponry added under the skin.

This Aston had all the badass on the outside, and a first aid kit on the inside. I do like how they used it in the film though. That was a nice touch.

DC seems to be a good match for Bond. Nothing worse than the men who have come before him, but not a Brosnan or Connery. The new blood coming in to the franchise will be a good thing for Bond in the long run.

I went to see it with my Dad too, I'm glad to see lots of us have the same tradition. Good strong three and a half stars movie.

I saw it at the weekend and it's easily my favourite Bond film so far. The over-the-top gadgets in previous films had always put me off, and I've always thought Craig is a great actor compared to some of the sub-par people who've played Bond.

A few small bits I didn't like, but overall a really good film.

Just got back from seeing it. I'm quite disappointed. He's an all right Bond but it just didn't feel like a proper Bond film to me. Where were the gadjets and where was the big story? Bond used to be about save the world type stuff not just about stopping some money going to terrorists. He used to stop the terrorists themselves.

I mean its ok but its no Goldeneye.

But this film is Bond how he's supposed to be. The gadgets and plots have gotten just plain silly over the years to the point that even I as a die-hard Bond fanatic, didn't really enjoy the last two movies. Die Another Day with its frickin' space laser, surfing and parasailing just made it a bit cartoonish - and Bond is NOT supposed become a cliché of himself, which has happened over the years.

Casino Royale is firmly routed in reality, and as much as I like my gadgets, I appreciate it all the more. Brilliant film - only saw it this evening!
