There's a special few Macs that are more desired then the rest. Some examples include the DLSDs, iMac G4s, the Cube, the G5 Quad, Clamshells, FlowerPower and Snow White G3s... the list could go on forever. So tonight I FINALLY got an iMac G4 for an exceptional price from eBay. This is one of those "YES FINALLY!!" Moments, and the purpose of this thread is for people to show off the machines that made them have that moment of extreme happiness of finally getting one. It doesn't have to be PowerPC, as I know of several people who had one of those moments when they got a Mac Pro, or a MacBook Pro 9,1. Doesn't matter if it's just a common Mac or a rare Mac, any will do. I'm just curious to see which Macs people really longed to have, and then finally got one.

And with finally getting an iMac G4, that completes my original 3 most wanted Macs when I first started collecting; The G4 Cube, the G3 Clamshell, and the iMac G4. :D

The goal posts have shifted so to speak. Going in order, I have at various times wanted(in no particular order)

MDD G4
1.42 MDD(after I got my first MDD)
Quad
Mac Pro
Kanga PowerBook
68K Mac of some sort
68K PowerBook
Cube
G3 Minitower
G3 AIO
iMac G3 of some sort(that blossomed pretty easily)
Clamshell
8600
9600
Xserve G4
DLSD
Mac II
PowerBook 170

Also, in terms of parts:

Dual 1.8 Sonnet
Radeon 9700(don't really have one now)
Geforce 3
X850XT
21" CRT
17" ADC CRT
Blueberry LCD

Now, my list is sort of slim. I want a high end Quadra, a TAM, and a couple of additional PowerBooks, and a few iMac G3 colors. Oh, then there's the SE/30 and a Macintosh(original 128K marked only "Macintosh").

I do have a line on a Portable and a IIfx-two of my additional wants.

Nothing has changed.

Seems like I've unknowingly ended up with some of the top coveted models myself...
And yes, that is a 15" power book on top of the G5 quad, I also have a 12" power book but my significant other commandeered it and it is currently in use.

Wasn't she the one that was saying you had too many Macs? ;)
After 61 years of marriage I'll plead the 5th on that Erik.
Actually she uses 2 laptops, a 15" MBP for the web and her gardening forums and the 12" power book to maintain several garden related data bases (heritage seed bank stuff) that were created way back using AppleWorks and I've never managed to find a way to bring them forward into the intel world.

Smart man! :D

You wanted the same three I do: Clamshell, Cube, iMac G4! I currently own the G4 and Clamshell, looking hard for a Cube.

The first one I got was my Clamshell, which I got February 2016. Was so glad to finally get one!

The very same day, I found an iMac G4 for cheap. $65, I think. :) Got it in about a week.

Today, constantly searching eBay and Craigslist for a decently priced Cube.

I've got a 1.25ghz 20" iMac G4 (overpaid but oh well), 1.25 ghz 17" iMac G4(this had a single owner who bought it new in 2003 and NEVER opened it. $75 off Craigslist. Optical drive turned out to be dead, but it's in such mint condition I don't even care) and my original dream G4 I also have which is a DLSD 2005 17" PowerBook G4.

Next up is a G4 Cube.

One of my biggest dreams is to run my DLSD 17" PowerBook G4 with the old 30" Apple Display. The DLSD PowerBook was the only PowerBook ever made that can run that display. Because the display and the PowerBook have that special DVI connector.

Which iMac G4 did you get?

Which iMac G4 did you get?

It was of unknown spec on eBay, but it should be coming today. It's a 17in and it's untested, that's all I know.

Most of the Macs I've wanted I have by now, but of course there are a few left to add if they came up for the right price!
PowerBook 2400c
Macintosh TV
TAM
PowerMac 9600/350 or MP200
SE/30

As far as what I've got that some people consider "collectable"
G4 Cubes
All the clamshell iBook models & colors
G5 Quad
Dual 1.42 MDD
20" iMac G4
17" DLSD PowerBook
PowerBook 3400/240
Snow iMac G3
1GHz TiBook
1.5GHz 12" PowerBook

Still on the lookout for a 2400c, SE/30, 17in DLSD, another GigaTi, and eventually for the right price, a G5 Quad. I also wouldn't mind a FW Clamshell. I also have the 1.5GHz 12in PB, and a 1.67GHz 15in SLSD.

I do hope it's the USB2 1.25GHz model with the faster 167MHz bus. My equal favourite with the 20" G4 iMac. :)

So I got the iMac... HOLY CR*P! This is the most unique and interesting design on a computer that I have ever seen in person. I can't get over its futuristic and timeless design. So specs are 1GHz, 17in, 80GB HDD, 512MB RAM, and no AirPort card. Luckily, it was as well packaged as an iMac G4 without the original box could be. Completely wrapped in giant bubble wrap, then boxed in styrofoam, then double cardboard boxed. Upon opening it, it was very discolored and brown in appearance. I had feared it had been horribly discolored, but 2 Clorox wipes later, and its whiteness has returned. According to the listing, it was untested and everything was unknown, but the second I found a Mickey Mouse-style power cable and plugged it in, it turned right on. Screen was nice and bright with not a single scratch. Upon it getting to the desktop, it is currently running OS X 10.4.11 and had a lot of music on it. The music happened to be of my taste, so I tried playing a song. To my surprise, the music started playing, and sounded pretty damn good! I had no clue the iMac G4 had a built in speaker, or even if it did, it only was for the boot chime. I still would like to get a pair of eyeball speakers for it, since those sound absolutely glorious. Overall, extremely happy with my $60-shipped purchase from eBay.

Here's the iMac upon first booting up after I opened it. Going to have to clean install it!

I had that moment with every one of my Macs! Well, ok, maybe not EVERY one... but most of them. I think these are the ones I'd leave out of the excitement:
iBook G3 300 Blueberry Clamshell
Power Macintosh G4 450 (AGP)
Xserve 2.66 2006
Mac Mini 2.66 2010

And as far as wanting more... I wouldn't mind an SE/30 and a Mac Pro 2010. I'd get MacOS 8 running on the SE/30 and 10.12 running on the Mac Pro. I'd want a TAM maybe, but from what I've been reading, I don't think I could run 10.4 on it... maybe that'd be the real challenge...

I'm still looking out for an elusive clamshell, G5 quad, and powerbook. A tangerine clamshell one would match well with my tangerine iMac G3 , but any color right now will do. I already have my Cube and imac G4. They are a bit rough looking but they are still awesome.

A problem with a number of G4 iMac's that one sees on the theBay & Craigslist etc, is that they don`t include the Harman Kardon 'eyeball' speakers M6531. They are relatively easy to find (even here in Europe) for around 20-25euros which equates to US$22-28. I've just seen a pair on a local site here for a very acceptable 15euros.
For info, the somewhat similar Harman Kardon speakers for the G4 Cube are P/No: M7963.

I have the Cube speakers, and they sound glorious despite some minor foam rot.

The black globe speakers look nice but have the foam rot issues so I opt to get the white ones with the rubber surrounds. At least those you can fix with flexible adhesives. Not technically Mac but a set of soundsticks w/ isub is also on my to find list.

Because the Cube doesn't have any built in audio cards/input or output, the black ones have an external USB sound card of sorts. Thus, you can only use the black ones with the cube, but you can use the white set with several Macs.

That's right my cube I have a generic USB sound card since mine did not come with exclusive USB device and speakers. I have been looking for an Griffin iFire but the prices are incredible.

Over the years I've acquired most of the Macs I wanted. The exceptions are as such:

I've always wanted an LC II, simply because I used one a lot in my elementary school years playing Word Munchers and Oregon Trail
lc-with-12-inch-color-384.jpg

Also a Mac Plus, because of the history and versatility of it
beige-mac-plus-240.jpg

And finally, a sage iMac G3 just for the pretty color :p

I suppose an iMac G4 would be nice to have, but that's definitely not as important as these listed.
