What time I get up is irrelevant as it changes day by day, city to city, time zone to time zone. Though I always measure my time in Denver time, even if I'm on the coast(federal rule). I wake up to my iPhone alarm and try to turn it off without directly looking at the bright screen. After laying there for a minute I decide that I actually want to get up I turn on the light for the top bunk of my truck, it is the only light I can reach from my bunk that doesn't shine directly on me. I also turn the heat all the way up to warm up the cab faster. After my eyes adjust I turn on all the other lights.
The first thing I do is get dressed, then make my bed and put away any dirty clothes I was too lazy to put away the night before. When you live in something as small as a truck you need to keep it clean or it will become a big distraction. I throw on my jacket and hat, grab my toothbrush and head to the nearest place where I can use the restroom, this changes daily. After getting done in the restroom I will buy some food if there is a place within a five minute walk.
After returning to my truck I start it up and get my log book up to date. I then go outside and do a pre-trip inspection of the truck and trailer. I am mostly checking for functioning lights and that no one had tampered with the truck while I was sleeping. If everything looks ok I grab some bottled water and a Gatorade from under the bunk and set out down the road.
I could be going any direction ranging anywhere from 20 miles up to about 550 for the day, just depends on the load. Sometimes I have time to stop and take pictures and look around. Every other day I try to get a shower in at about mid-day, no waiting during the middle of the day.
At the end of my day I find a nice quiet place to park, always where I can make an easy exit, and get something to eat. My meals throughout the day are small, almost snack size. I save my real meal for the end of the day. I try not to hang around other drivers as they seem to be really negative. If I came across a driver that seems smart and has a positive attitude I will BS with him/her for a bit before returning to the truck.
After returning to the truck I plug my phone into the laptop and sync the music. After that I send out my daily Email to family and friends. I like to watch an episode or two of whatever TV show I have on DVD, then I close the laptop and go to bed.
