I'm leaning towards the touch. I don't really see a need for the external speakers and the mail app. You can always use safari to check your mail and for other apps to and I don't really share my mp3 player with others. Also bletooth is useless except for headphones which probably causes a decreases in sound quality. The extra storage is also better for those who watch a lot of videos. I think to have an iphone would just be a hassel since you have to worry about hacking after an update. In addition if you are just using the ipod portion of the iphone then it is better to get the touch since its thinner because it dones't have the phone hardware like the iphone plus the matte border on the touch seems more attractive (not a big deal though). All in all the touch is a better buy then a iphone hacked for ipod purposes.

I did exactly what you're talking about. After five touches with crappy screens, I gave up and bought an iPhone. Used iPhoneTool to activate it without service, then installed Installer.app and got everything I needed. I am *much* happier with my iPhone than I was with my touch. Form factor, included dock, no negative blacks... its awesome.

EDIT: I just remembered there`s some problem with unlocked iPhone not playing youtube videos. But I dont remember if it`s Youtube not et al working after unlock or Youtube not working with other carrier`s edge service. So just make sure you confirm youtube works over wifi with an unlocked iPhone before taking the final plunge. May be someone using an unlocked iPhone can confirm it.[/QUOTE]

Quick google search and I fixed the YouTube problem in a matter of minutes.

There you go. Takes about 2 minutes, tops.

Is there something like this for the PC? I currently have a 16gb touch and am thinking of returing and buying a 8gb iphone. i have verizon and don't need the at&t service or tmobile. when you unlock it, does it still need to have a sim card in there? seeing how the new firmware locks all the iphones, i think i will wait and see when a fix will show up. but my problem is i only have 3 more weeks left to return it to bestbuy.

thanks
