So do you guys agree with Donald Trump?
Personally I prefer the swipe, it’s more natural, IMO, than pressing a button.

Still not used to the swipe myself. I keep mashing my screen looking for the home button even after a month of use.

Haha! You’ll get used to it. Gestures in general take some time.

To me it feels so natural now as it is a swift movement requiring no pressure.
When I use my iPad Air 2, I only use the Home Button to unlock via TouchID and then after that I use swipe.

I'm confused. A Don can't be a button man, a Don gives orders (or veiled hints) to a button man (eg., Don Vito Corleone and button man Luca Brasi).

"Luca..."
"Si, Godfather?"
"It would be a crime if someone was to swipe that little snitch's iPhone..."
"Godfather, it's a iPhone 6, it's gotta Home button."
"Luca, you've always been a man of few words. Now, you disappoint."

Swipe can also be annoying when you REALLY want to go back to home screen while, say, playing a game or watching a movie. For some games, I have to swipe more than 3 times to succeed. On the phone, because of its position, I have a very good chance activating home bar numerous times when playing some games, disrupting gameplay.

In short, it does not work very consistently, unlike a home button that almost always works.

Literally LOL’d and now I want to watch The Godfather trilogyfollowed by back-to-back seasons of The Sopranos!

The only thing I don’t like about the swipes interface is reachability. Used it all the time on the 7 plus, quick double tap on the home button. On the 11 it’s just so low I have readjust my grip to use it which defeats the point because it’s not easy to use.

I don't agree with Don much, but on this point, I agree. I like a physical home button, and hope at least one iPhone will continue to offer it. (For my mother's sake.). I had the hardest time trying to figure out how to force reboot a iPhone X without the home button.

Swipe is actually my preferred method as well. I have the 11 Pro Max and the iPad Pro 11 inch, both of which both does not have have the home button.

It was harder to head back to the home screen on my XS Max due to having to reach my thumb to the bottom of the bezel and swiping up. I can get back home easier now simply hitting the home button on the 8 Plus. And accessing control center is now easier too by just swiping up from the bottom of the screen versus reaching up to the top right corner of the XS Max bezel and swiping down. So yeah, the gestures really don't work well IMO on larger iPhones.

Wonder if him and Guiliani got new phones and this is how the alleged butt-dial happened...

I remember the “butt dial” came from the classic BlackBerry phones, my dad once dialing me from the floor of his Jeep at 3 in the morning 🤣

Exactly this. Everything is better but Reachability, which is worse. (And that's a great feature, so I'd like to see Apple improve the gesture for this.)

I've found that older people, people with small hands and people who are one handed users typically find the old design with button easier to use. We know Trump fits two of those categories! I fit the third :)

Right that is what I found. You have to adjust your grip to enable it putting it in a un-stable position for one handed use (which is when you would be using it!).

That's only if you didn't use the included Blackberry factory holster or an official accessory. They all had magnets in them so when you put the phone in the case, it would auto lock, and when you pulled it out, it would self unlock.

Having to manually tap the power button to lock was completely foreign.

You could also configure different notification settings if the phone was out of the case, like suppressing vibration and making sounds louder. And if the phone was ringing, pulling it out of the case would silence the ringer.

I like the swipe. Only took me a few days to get used to it when I got the XS Max. Whenever I used my wife’s 7+ I couldn’t get used to that button.
Now we’re both on 11 Pro Max phones and she doesn’t seem to miss the button at all, hasn’t even mentioned it.
Now if I could just not try tapping to wake to get my 6 gen iPod Touch to wake up!

I think Donald needs a LOT of time to learn new things.
