That's only if you didn't use the included Blackberry factory holster or an official accessory. They all had magnets in them so when you put the phone in the case, it would auto lock, and when you pulled it out, it would self unlock.

Having to manually tap the power button to lock was completely foreign.

You could also configure different notification settings if the phone was out of the case, like suppressing vibration and making sounds louder. And if the phone was ringing, pulling it out of the case would silence the ringer.
I cannot describe how I miss those features. My classic BlackBerry 7250 had those glorious settings all the way back in 2005. iPhone has never attempted any of them and that disappoints me a bit. Having nothing to do with the home button.
On the topic of the button, it took me about a week after I got the iPhone X two years ago to forget that the home button was even a thing.

A physical button is a better option for people with small fingers. It takes more effort to swipe. Perhaps a setting that can adjust the length that the swipe must be to register could help.

BlackBerry did end up going overboard with the settings. Or rather, everything was per-app and per-message type. So you would adjust your e-mail settings one way, and you get an AIM message with a sound that would be the wrong volume and tone.

I'll give Apple credit for their highly restricted notification settings. People think they want a different sound and notification style for everything, and Samsung and Android went overboard on them. But Boeing did actual studies and found that people cannot distinguish between more than 5 or 6 different sounds in normal "surprise" notification scenarios. This is very true: next time a non-standard notification plays, try to figure out what it is before looking.

actually quite a few apps offer different notification sounds on iOS (e.g. WhatsApp)

I like FID and swiping on my iPhone 11 pro but not FID on my iPad 11" pro, just got a mini 5 and definitely prefer the home button on a iPad.
Man these 11 pro names are confusing.

Seriously. I laughed and laughed when I saw that tweet. And I’m further amused at imagining the frustration that must have led up to that tweet 🤣
He definitely can get some traction on that tweet. But I doubt it’ll change any choices Tim has made.

Don't worry the new iPhone SE will make iPhones great again :p

I prefer gestures over the home button but there are some hardened button fans here. I bet those that hate Trump are having a mental quandary over if they should change their views. Also I can see this thread being quickly moved to the politics forum

I have to agree! The fake home button with Taptic Engine on the 7 and 8 was always a mind boggle to me whenever I tried those phones

Yeah, going from my 6 Plus to my iPhone 7 was a bit of a baffle but I quickly got accustomed to the fake button. Now learning that the button is gone forever is a bit of a mind blown moment for me as I smash my screen with my thumb.
