thats an awesome setup... good luck finding a nice wallpaper to cover the whole thing lol.. .

make sure you have a comfortable chair as i foresee you spending lots of time sitting in front of your computer.. ;)

I am scrambling to put together funds for a 3.2 octo.
Will probably sell a guitar or 2 & put the rest on a card.
How does Final Cut & CS2 work under newer machines.
I wont have cash for newest software upgrades for a while.

Why are you going to pay for that extra processor speed when you can't even utilize it with the latest programs? My suggestion is to stick with the 2.8 and use the $1600 you save to purchase CS3 and Final Cut Studio 2.

If you're that strapped for cash and you're thinking of putting the rest on a credit card, you'll end up paying more from interest. I would get the 2.8 octo, and put less or none on the card and save up the money that I would have paid on interest to upgrade the CPU when the prices come down in +6 months or use the money I saved by not getting the 3.2 for new software like FC & CS2.

Please, this is not directed at you in any way but I'm just making an overall observation...now I know why the US alone can bring down the global eonomies with the subprime and credit default issues. People charging everying on credit cards which they cannot afford and paying the minimum and then not having enough to pay off their mortgages or loans. Quite amazing IMHO.

ODLAWMAC... Are you sure you want the wireless keyboard?

Just makin' sure you unnerstand its not got any dedicated number pad and needs you to jump thru some finger hoops to get at certain key functions.

That's gonna be a nice system... Enjoy!

Couldnt wait

I just pulled the trigger on this:
Two 3.2GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
8GB (4 x 2GB)
DUAL 500GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s (1TB TOTAL)
Mac OS X - U.S. English - Leopard
ATI Radeon X2600 XT 256MB (2 x dual-link DVI)
AirPort Extreme card (Wi-fi)
Apple Keyboard and Mighty Mouse - U.S. English
Two 16x SuperDrives
Accessory kit
Should be able to pay it off in 3 months, & upgrade the software in another 2 or so.
I got a good deal on it, so I couldn't be happier.

Odlawmac Replies!

Actually i purchased the wireless Keyboard and mouse just because they offer the keyboard for so cheap when your configuring the computer ($30). I went out and purchased the wired keyboard too, so i'll always have the two keyboards hooked up to the machine. Just in the process of Waiting. They haven't shipped any of these Mac Pro's yet with these options. Anyone know anything of why? I am predicting they'll ship it right around Valentines day. Thanks guys keep the comments rolling on in!!! What do you guys think of the difference between the 3 piece Harmon Kardon (sound-sticks) speakers and the 3 piece Altec Lansing FX6021. I'll be hooking the Altec Lansing's up to the machine. I have both..what are your opinions?

THANKS SO MUCH GUYS HOPE TO GET MANY MORE RESPONSES FROM EVERYONE!!!!!!!

You bought that much RAM from apple?!?!??!

Very close to my dream machine specs, but not exactly. I would've gone with the wired keyboard/mouse. Other then that It's identical to what I'm ordering. :) Minus the 2nd ACD (not enough room :()

Can someone make a convincing argument for having a large system partition? I see people doing 1TB and Raid 750GB, whoa hold on! Why not run Raptors or Raided Raptors and have a no compromise machine? You dig?

Update.
