Some developer is going to write an app to fill the visible screen above the island... yielding what might be called Dynamic Notch. If notch was fine/"iconic"/"I love the notch"/etc and island is not, grab that app when it is available (if not already).
3rd party apps can’t modify the system interface that way on iOS. Maybe on Jailbroken devices though.

I don't mind the dynamic island but it doesn't do much. Looks good on calls and it's pretty cool that it shows when someone is talking. I kinda wish it could be used as an option for notifications.

EDIT: Somebody answered the same earlier.

It certainly might be an option for video viewing apps though!

I’d prefer nothing there. No notch, no pill, nothing would be great. I’m not giving up Face ID or a front facing camera. Until those two issues get resolved we have to deal with it.

The notch isn’t bad at all. The pill isn’t bad at all.

Hmmmmm, sticker to fill the gap above the island? Name: Mostly Dynamic Notch? 😉

Flip down flap on a case to fake a new left edge when watching something in landscape (flap covers the island)? Call it Manual Bezel or Obscuring Island.

So if you want to discuss or debate the cons of a new piece of kit then you should just return it? It is an option though. I think purchases can cover a spectrum of how satisfied one is with it. The OP has mentioned they will have to suck it up. I find the OPs view pretty rational tbf.
In his initial post, there wasn't much left up for debate. He never asked a question or for anyone's opinion on the topic. His exacts words were "It sucks." He claims he finds it intrusive & "not sure if I will be able to adjust." I'm not sure what else you want me to gather from that. So yes, it sounds like he needs to return the phone.

I received my new 14 Pro yesterday and was very excited to try the dynamic island. I have to say it sucks. I found the notch on the 13 pro somewhat intrusive, but the island is all on another level. When I open Safari/Mail/calendar or other programs with a white background, the island looks like a big black spot in the middle of the screen, which significantly interferes with my regular phone usage. I am not sure if I will be able to adjust.
If it interferes so much with your specific usage, return it, get your money back, buy something else.

There’s your solution 😊

So far from playing around with my Pro, it seems only a few apps utilise Dynamic Island (Apple Music for example)…which other ones use it well and for those loving it, how has it made a difference? I know I’m missing something as it only seems easier to switch between some apps but that’s it?
It's important to realize that the Live Activities API has not been released yet. That's what developers need to be able to take advantage of the Dynamic Island.

It will take time for devs to update their apps properly for the pill shape. I’m sure it will be sorted out in 6 months.

Give it a few months and let developers start developing for it.

I’m not a fan of the dynamic island at all. The notch made more sense in some ways because it literally was actually the edge of the screen. With this it’s a floating blob. And then there’s the inconsistency of how apps put the mic dot sometimes in between the cameras or sometimes in the top right, for no reason I can think of. And then when it gets wider to fit stuff left and right, it just looks REALLY wide! With a giant black nothingness in between.

Not a fan. Oh well.

It’d be nice if we got the option to turn it off and just let it be a static pill. Maybe someday.

As soon as Apple find a way to put the cameras and whatnot under the screen the dumbnamic island will be history. It's just a way of putting a positive spin on the notch/lozenge and is purely temporary.

100% truth. It’s hilarious how stupid it looks. Right now I’m AirPlay-big some music, and the dynamic island literally looks like part of my screen is broken.

Do you know how to sell a lot of 14 Pro and Max first then make the discounted 14+ a good sell number? Lol

Notch = old and busted. Island = new hotness. I can’t believe how much better it is. Maybe because now I look at it as a notification and information center. Instead of trying to ignore it I’m interacting with it and referring to it. Also I use dark mode. But come on, the island is where it’s at. Don’t get voted off, embrace the island.

I don’t think the notch is ‘old and busted’ mate, calm down lol. It’s still in current iPhones this year too.
