My wife still swears by her iPod Classic. We use it for every road trip still. We have changed the logic board once, the battery twice and modded it with a ton of flash storage, but it works great still. :)

I liked the 1st generation Shuffle. It was weirdly useful and for a long time my device for training sessions in the gym. Other models were certainly more refined, but I remember this one fondly.

The original with the wheel that actually turned was the best by far. I’ve had a number of iPods, and they never beat that original design. Going to color always felt like a mistake too…

This one.

If I'm being honest it was. Brought a permanent price cut to the iPod/Classic as well as a lot of design cues which the rest of the industry followed later in the interface.

The later iPod Nanos were probably the best. Did the job and was the right size.

Impossible to choose between my two babies, the only iPods I ever owned:

RIP iPod, you changed everything
Nice one! I agree iPod changed everything. The reason why we have an iPhone because of an iPod Touch. This is definitely a legendary product by Apple. I'm so sad today :(

Collectors Edition 3rd Generation Shuffle in Polished Stainless Steel. I almost bought one the day before the Gen 4 was announced and I wish I had.

Of course the first ones were best. The last versions (touch) are very bad IMO, because battery life wasn't even a consideration, and it suffers. 'Thin a light' may be ok for some things but with the iPod it's a disaster.

I have a version 7 right here and the battery life is dismal. A joke. I need it plugged in.

Considering that the iPhone has unbelievably good battery life.........

I think the first iPhone was actually released before the iPod touch, but the iPhone probably wouldn’t have existed (at least not in the same capacity) without the preceding iPod family.

I still have my 512 MB model with a waterproof sports case and AAA battery pack, all original from Apple. Those were the days.

My personal favorite is iPod nano 7th generation.

My pick for the most beautiful iPods in each category.

“iPod?

iPoop... iCry. I was so hoping for something more”

“NO!

Great just what the world needs, another freaking MP3 player. Go Steve! Where's the Newton?!”

Sounds very revolutionary to me.

“hey - heres an idea Apple - rather than enter the world of gimmicks and toys, why dont you spend a little more time sorting out your pathetically expensive and crap server line up?

or are you really aiming to become a glorified consumer gimmicks firm?”

Macrumors complainers have never changed. Still bitching about anything they can sink their fangs into. Yet they would have bankrupted Apple if someone let them man the steering wheel for a day.

The Touch Wheel model (gen 2?) was my first Apple product. Still have it but needs a battery replacement.

iPod shuffle 4th Generation.
Super small with built in clip.
Lots of colors.
Inexpensive.
Very focused experience.

My favorite iPod? maybe not. My most used and convenient? Absolutely. The way I see it, this is what eventually morphed into the Apple Watch. The only thing holding this shuffle back was the need to have wired headphones. Had bluetooth been around at the time, this would have been even better/a bigger draw. You never worried about damaging it. It transferred data THROUGH THE HEADPHONE JACK. This shuffle was magic.

I never owned one, but the third generation Shuffle in polished stainless steel was the one I really wanted (in addition to my 5G classic).
