I either have to click or poke at it with my finger. Selecting text to copy or cut n paste elsewhere is decidedly meh.
You mean the finger on screen (not trackpad), right?

Press a specific button + a tap and swipe on the trackpad, was a good solution. But Apple...

Yes, sorry, that is what I meant. I normally do all my homework (I am a 2nd year xray tech student) on my MBP, but decided to do one of my image analysis projects using word on the iPad, and while its serviceable, if I had to do a lot of text manipulation, tables, etc, I‘d head right back to the MBP.

Ok, other idea...
Im looking for a good BT-Mouse. I think textmarking is much easier (or not?)
I hope the workflow is much higher

I think that Apple doesnt want us to entirely get away from using touch or the pencil to do certain things.

I mean a Blutooth-Mouse (not the Pencil). As alternative to the trackpad
The workflow with the MK is much better (higher), i think a BT-Mouse (with MK) the increase the workflow even higher

Typing with the MK, but using a BT-Mouse instead the trackpad ;) (like PC)

Kind negates the need for the MK, might as well get the ASK instead if you aren’t going to use the trackpad. I just use the trackpad with tap to click enabled, and accept that some things are better done with the pencil or my fingers.

Are we abbreviating the Magic Keyboard to:

AMK = Apple MAgic Keyboard
Or
MKB = Magic KeyBoard

Apple Smart Keyboard?
You are right, but i dont like the material from ASK (waterproof fabric)

@ all user with a MBP
Is the key stroke from the MK the same? (i think 1mm?)
And how is key typing the from the MK compared to MBP?

If anyone is interested, I just had a chance to upload a (more proper) review of the keyboard after I've had it for 24 hours. I hope it answer more of the questions I missed on the previous videos.

Hi there - did you have any trouble at all with the function of keyboard? Mine just isn’t turning on at all....

I have a question for those with the Magic Keyboard: can you easily take out the iPad when the Magic Keyboard is closed, I.e., like a cover? Or do you have to first open it up completely? I know it’s easy to take off the iPad when the MK is sitting opened up on a desk, but the question is if you carry it around in the MK, and then want to use it as a tablet.

Received a replacement today because the backlight for the keyboard was not working.

Replacement has same issue...leading me to think it’s an iPad hardware issue? I’ve tried cleaning the contact to the keyboard, restoring my iPad to a backup, etc...nothing.

Trackpad works. Keys work. Caps lock light works. Can not get the backlight to work

Weird. I had the opposite problem; backlighting wouldn’t turn off. Removing it and putting it back on didn’t fix it; restarting the iPad did. That’s a weird hardware problem for the iPad Pro to have. Does the screen brightness still auto-adjust?

I have a question... So the Magic Keyboard backlight brightness can be manually adjusted in the settings, but the automatic adjustment from the ambient light sensor can't be turned off. Does anyone know how long after manual adjustment it will revert back to being automatically adjusted? Upon power cycle? A certain time interval? I tested if it was upon detachment / reattachment or lock / unlock but it didn't seem to be.

I have the 2016 MBP, and the travel is definitely greater with the Magic Keyboard. It is similar to the ASK, maybe a little less.

It does. Super confused about this all

No, its absolutely impossible to remove the iPP with closed MK

Thanks. So, you have to open it up completely? Say, you sit in a sofa and you have the iPad in the MK with you. To get it out to use it as a tablet, you first have to open up the MK completely? With the ASK you can just fold it back and take off the iPad. It is more complicated with the MK?

No practical difference between the two. It’s the same motion to open and remove it from either one.

Definitely a touch cramped. Would you say it’s still workable over an 11”

The tray was not pulled out at all. If you pull the tray out towards you, the 12.9” fits perfect on it. I made it the most cramped it could be to show.

And yes, I have to fly for work unfortunately. Twice a week from SDF to PDX, then drive back.

Mine came earlier today. Ive had the chance to play with it all day.

This is a very expensive, yet essential accessory. I think it’s awesome and highly recommend it. The typing experience blows my old Smart Folio Keyboard out of the water.

I just got my 12.9” Magic Keyboard this afternoon. I will say—this is my first ever 12.9” model Pro, so I’m still kind of getting over the shock of having such a large iPad, and throwing in full blow trackpad support with this new accessory just adds to that. It’s going to take me a few days to start feeling like this is my new normal. It was time though. I’m probably more of what you would consider a power user on the iPad, and the more tasks I ask it to take on, the more the 11” screen was feeling cramped. I need more canvas for LumaFusion and the Affinity apps.

But as far as this Magic Keyboard specifically? The typing experience is so much better than the Smart Keyboard Covers and Folios I’ve been using regularly in the first 3 generations of iPad Pro. I used them all daily and got along fine, but they always felt like stand-ins for a real keyboard. This keyboard is a real keyboard. Mechanically it feels a lot like my Magic Keyboard I use with my Mac, but just tighter and maybe a little springier.

Being pretty fluent with a trackpad on the Mac, this trackpad comes naturally. Accessing slide over and the dock using the cursor takes a little getting used to and could probably use some tweaking in the UI, but other than that it works a lot like how I use a trackpad on the Mac.

The only thing I hate is that they used this same rubbery material on the outside as they have in the past. I ended up kind of reverse engineering a Decal Girl skin for a 12.9” Smart Keyboard Folio just to keep the grime off of it. I wish Apple would switch to the stuff Logitech used on its iPad Pro keyboard cases. It looks and feels the same but isn’t such a fingerprint and dirt magnet.

I can only imagine that’s iPad related as it’s the sensors that detect the backlit.

A couple of weeks in and I love my Magic Keyboard Case more and more. At first I tried to do everything with the trackpad, then I remembered that some of the stuff is actually more intuitive to do via the touch screen. Since then I have found my productivity has increased and the keyboard is the best I have ever used. I am also pleased it is covered under my AppleCare Plus plan, so not at all worried about protecting it !!
