I currently rotate between smart folio and smart keyboard folio. For a long period of image editing / illustrating / 3d mockup i always use the smart folio as i find it gives the best angle, the most stable and non-obstructive. But sometimes there was time when i only have my SFK with me and propping it like that helps me big time. Was hoping same thing with Magic Keyboard 😃 Not a huge deal as it clearly wasn’t build for that, but its nice if its able to as a backup. I always find drawing on flat surface give me neck strain.

I agree it’s not built for that.
I also find it useful to flip the SFK when I use the pen and I am hoping when I flip the MK it will be usable that way as well.

Not trying to be smarty pants at all, just brainstorming on how can I flip and if it works ;)

I think for the size of the iPad it is fine. I think the 12.9 shouldn’t be as cramped as the 11 inch model as it always the keys are on the 11 inch models

No one seems to know. I asked through chat on the Apple Store website and they don‘t know either. Have asked MrExitStategy via YouTube. Will post back if I find out.

I’m hoping it is glass. Already disappointed that it’s not Force Touch. Will be even more so if it turns out to be plastic too.

I’m wondering if the trackpad is larger on the 12.9 vs the 11?

Assuming I got the scaling right in these images (taken from the Apple Website). Looks like they’re the same width, but the 12.9” version’s trackpad is slightly taller.

Here’s 1:1 comparison on top of each other.

No resize.
Both iPad’s key size match perfectly from the original images just different pitch.
I just align it to the ”b” key.

Surprisingly the 11” is wider but the 12.9” is taller.

currently own 15" MacBook Pro late 2014 model.... I bought the 11 inch iPad Pro for when I travel... tired of carrying my MacBook through the airports... I just am not sure if I should have gone with the 12.9 inch, with the new magic keyboard, is it going to be too big? too heavy?... its back to 11 vs 12.9

Get an Apple external trackpad and something like the Jelly Comb keyboard ($25). This works just as well as the Apple Keyboard folio (which I have), weighs much less, and allows you to keep whatever cover you like on the iPad. The trackpad works very well -- and it's bigger than the magic keyboard's trackpad.

Its one of the various way / hack for Smart Keyboard Folio to get good drawing /writing angle. Looks rather silly but its actually quite functional and firm.

Any ideas when the embargo usually lifts for reviews? Keeping my eye on YouTube for them, was sure they’d be out by now if we’re expecting the products in customer’s hands tomorrow.

Been looking at the Jelly Comb Keyboard you mention. I’d like to find a foldable Keyboard like this (or one that also has a built in touch pad) with some type of locking mechanism to keep it stable and unfolded while it’s on my lap. Looking at the Amazon reviews for this one, it appears it won’t work in this manner. Searched around on Amazon for other ones and none of them seem to lock into place 😣.

I think it depends on what your priority is, same as it does for laptops. Do you want/need something to be the absolute lightest it can-be?

Assuming you’re able-bodied, I don’t think any current iPad or Macbook is too heavy to carry around day to day. But I found the 15/16” MBP have a very large footprint which make them unusable on planes, trains, coffee shop tables.

At the other extreme, I’d often run to work and pretty much anything other than a 12” Macbook or iPad feels like a reasonable chunk of weight on my back.

So I guess we can’t answer for you.... The new Magic Keyboard for me is a true laptop-replacement in terms of functionality, but I know it may be the same weight as a MacBook Air for example.

An 11” iPad Pro with Smart Keyboard folio might be a really nice ultra-light device, but you then don’t have a mouse/trackpad. If you don’t need/want one, then maybe that’s the way to go?

Great review! It looks very well integrated, which is probably expected. It most likely will impact sales for iPads. :)

Some of us on the Logitech keyboard, with Functionality of trackpad similar to the magic keyboard are discussing a scroll issue. Anyone w the magic keyboard, are you experiencing this? Thanks in advance and would be helpful to see.

The strange thing is it’s not consistent but it’s definitely bothersome since it’s sporadic. Stopping scrolling and removing your hand results in a slight continuation of scroll, which sounds like what you’re describing. I don’t think any particular setting can change this and could be a bug requiring future software release. I wonder if the magic keyboard folks are also having the same issue.

My 2c worth after playing around with the 11" Magic Keyboard for a couple of hours: weight is acceptable given that anything less would make it impossible to use on your lap. Keyboard is a joy to type on after the Brydge I've been using for the last two months.

I can't see a way to enable tap-to-click, so hoping that's just buried in settings somewhere and I haven't come across it yet.

Also the material it's made out of isn't great. I had the iPad Smart Folio (non-keyboard); after a couple of months' use it was showing fingerprints that couldn't be cleaned off, and the surface eventually developed a 'tacky' feel that felt like the plastic was starting to perish. This thing is made of the same stuff. There are already a couple of marks on the case that won't rub off. So I guess, prepare for this thing to show some serious wear and tear on the outside. Due to the materials alone it doesn't feel like it's worth the price-tag. :(

Hope that as I use it more, the pros will feel like they outweigh the cons.
