As I was leaving the house this morning, I had a gut wrenching feeling...

I felt my week old rMB (1.3 Gold) elegantly slip out of its pouch and straight onto the concrete pavement. :(

To cut the story short... Its damaged, badly. The impact was at the rear of the case (on the new metal hinge)both corners of the display have been bent/dented with visible damage on the inside casing too. The display has also cracked ever so slightly as a result of the impact. Oh and the butterfly keyboard doesn't feel great anymore...

So unlucky... now time to speak to the insurance company. Photos to follow... Back to waiting for a replacement...

Sorry to hear about this. I got mine covered for about $45 a year through State Fatm Insurance. It covers accidents, etc. with $0 deductible.

If you paid with a credit card such as American Express / Visa etc... there is usually accidental damage and theft coverage for 90 days. Try that first before having to pay anything.

Thanks all for the sympathy!

Fortunately It looks like I have two options for getting things covered under guarantee. Firstly I have gadget cover upto £2000 with a £50 excess. The current plan is for them to collect the machine Wednesday for 'Assessment'

My understanding is that it shall be near impossible to repair this machine (At least at the minute) it'll need a new display and main-body casing... Therefore its likely they'll replace it (which means waiting!)

My alternative is to go through AMEX only issue is I used PayPal as the payment courier... so this may cause issues.

Anyhow here's a couple of photos.

Geez I read that I felt totally gutted myself - could feel how sick you must feel. :(

I do hope you come up with a solution that's not too painful on your wallet.

Probably best time for this to happen, what with credit card cover, etc.. Hope you manage to resolve it at a reasonable cost.

What sleeve is that? Looks good...as long as you're careful with it!

doesn't look as bad as you first described.

but i would be so sad if it happened to me.

dropped it a couple of times while sleeping (Feeling from bed to floor), but i have carpet, so it's not bad. ;)

Agreed. I thought it would be much worse. Still, though, I feel bad for him. I would be crushed if that happened to me.

Please post which pouch you have so others know not to buy it.

This. It extends the manufacture warranty by an additional year, but it usually has a 90 day accidental damage warranty.

So here's a little update....

Have since spoken to AMEX and have submitted an additional claim with them; ideally if AMEX approve I shall withdraw the original.

The AMEX process appears to be much simpler plus won't increase my premiums. Anyhow I was required to get a quotation for a repair to be carried out.

Turns out to not be too bad; it is possible to repair! Here's the quotation from an Apple Authorised centre.

They'll need to replace the entire display and the top casing; I have been told the keyboard will be replaced as part of the top housing. :)

Making some progress, now to get the work approved!

To pouch was purchased through Ebay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/281624154412?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

It was only suppose to be temporary until some more options exist. I wouldn't slate the case for what happened, it was a mixture of my own carelessness too.

as someone who uses Amex everyday this makes me very happy. I personally have never had a claim, but it is good to know the process is simple.
