For me it is great! We are always hiking outdoors near rivers and streams. I usually have to put my cell in a zip lock bag so it won't get wet. Then it is a pain in the you know what to get out to take a picture.

Yeah, haven't had it on any of my previous devices but am looking forward to it on the Z1 Compact. Living in Florida affords us the opportunity to be around water year round and while it won't help a ton at the beach, we have a pool and also spend a lot of time at Busch Gardens, Disney, Sea World and their water parks so not having to worry about the phone getting wet (or use a plastic bag) will be nice.

And contrary to it being the 'Sunshine state', we have rain and thunderstorms pretty much every afternoon/evening over the summer so again, waterproof is a nice bonus.

So how do you protect your electronics from all that coastal weather?
Do use some kind of LifeProof cases or something like that?

No... There's no point. I just try and be careful, water is actually the least of the problem it's the sand... I'm on the beach 3 times a day and it's sand/grit that is the worst enemy. It gets everywhere, and inside your pockets so have to make sure it's not acting like an abrasive against your device. So basically I use a toughened screen protector and a clear skin on my devices which gives them protection. A case just is for looks after that.

Yeah water resistance is no good to me ... it doesn't cover salt water and its the sea if anywhere that I would expose a phone to. Mind i've never dropped a phone in or near water, so to me water resistance whilst nice is certainly far from essential... its like volcano insurance ;) ...

Yep i have dropped a phone in the surf and our saltwater pool. It will be right for the toilet though:p

We get bucket loads of rain though.

I got offered a straight trade today for my M8 for the charcoal black S5 ... I did consider it for a few hours, but in the end decided to keep the M8 ...

If I had not got the Lumia 1520 for my other device / camera - I probably would have traded though.

Mmm, its a toss up, i need to make a decision on which one to keep or if i keep both which one will be my work phone and the other a/h phone.
M8 is probably a better business phone but then the notification light and the screen when driving annoys me.
S5 solves those 2 but then the speaker is up the %$^^&. And the better camera is better for a/h. No need for a case with it which is a advantage.

I need help:p

I exchanged the M8 for an S5 a few hours ago. Both phones are great and I woulda been happy either way but in the end it was basically
  • I prefer the S5 camera. This is after taking the M8 to a BBQ over the weekend and seeing how the photos turned out
  • Wireless charging since I have Qi chargers lying around everywhere
  • Waterproofing for summer
  • I didn't want to cover the M8, which worried me because it felt like I was handling crystal. The M8 is literally the best industrial design I've ever seen on a phone and is best without a case. Knowing myself, I eventually woulda dropped the thing and dented it.

I have 3 small kids and so it'll be great this summer when we hit some water parks and I'm able to bring my phone in places in typically not able to not to mention the great pics I'll be able to take too!

I have decided to run with my M8 as my business phone and S5 as after hours/weekend phone. I don't have business land lines so can justify the extra $30 a month.
That is how i see these 2 phones, M8 business, S5 Social.

Also re sale on both these phones already is crap. Either hold value like a iPhone.

I really like both phones a lot. The S5 camera is awesome outside, I also like how light it is compared to the M8. Of course I also prefer the metal unibody design on the M8, so if we can get a manufacturer to make a phone as light as the S5 with an all metal body and a giant screen! :D

I feel like I should sell one of my 3 phones, since I will only carry two at a time, but I can't seem to give up the Note 3 since the resale will not net me much money. I'll probably just rotate them, I like having the S Pen available for work tasks so the Note 3 probably will stick around until Note 4 time.

It's lighter/thinner than M8, but all the M8 knockers re its tallness forgot to mention the S5 is wider.
Re sale on both are heading downwards.

I did it ....

Can't really say  is an appropriate reaction, considering how well we know you. Probably  is more applicable.

Pretty safe bet at this point, if there's a new flagship device released, we'll be able to get some first hand impressions shortly thereafter from our friendly neighborhood MRU. ;)

Swapped? Not surprised to be honest. :)

Lol.. No didn't swap ... I just bought one instead. :)

Sold my GPE S4 today and with the proceeds just ordered a new white S5.

I was getting jealous of everyone else trading in their device for the S5, I had to get some myself :). I will decide over the course of a month which I will keep (well for a few months anyway :D )

More posing doggy & beach pictures will be coming lol.

Congrats! Welcome to the club... I'll await some more pics of the beautiful scenery.

Ain't that the truth! I accepted a challenge to keep my S5 as my daily driver until mid August. My friend is convinced that if I can stick with a Samsung device through the summer, I'll never switch back... we'll see how this goes.

Good luck with that i couldn't decide, keeping both;)

I compared multi task window with calculator app between S5 and M7. M7 is pretty quick to open up multi task window and scale up calculator app to full screen as soon as I tap. In case of S5, something is holding it back for a second before it starts scaling up app to full screen. Scaling up thing is actually pretty quick. But It doesn't scale up immediately after the tap. When I tap calculator app in multi task window, it simulates one more click on the app (app flickers one more time). So something is going on between tap input and actual response. Any one noticed this lag?

What browser you guys are using. Stock browser is very fast. Wondering if there is something else faster than default browser. Split screen and iphone size screen functionality is very useful. Are these part of kitkat?

Does any one know how to stop app permissions on the s5? I'm new to android.

Hold on the app and app info will show.

I have questions !!?? Is the 16gb storage enough for apps and games? can you save and run apps on the sd cards storage? and can you take photos and movies and save them to sd card directly ?
Is the speaker really that bad as people saying ?

I was a big bagger of the speaker, since i have it compared to my M8 its average. But that is the M8 strong point. It's bearable at low to mid volume but vibrates a bit when up loud. Its only a small speaker. I mainly use bluetooth now.

Yes to photos and movies on SD card, not sure about apps.
