Same here. At this point I don't see the iPhone being of much use to anyone that just needs a phone and iPod combo, or a phone that uses iTunes to get iFart apps.

Not that it doesn't have it's pluses, it's a great glass covered device that will shatter at a moment's notice with not protection plan other than getting a new one full price.

What I want to see is either the iPhone with PRO features (like copy/paste) or an iPhone with an AT&T protection plan..... or both.... then I'll even consider getting rapped in the @$$ with @T&T to get one.

This is true and I hear that AT&T looses money when a customer purchases an iPhone from them.... only being able to recoup their loses with the two year contract.

The technical specs aren't that involved. Palm has been doing it for YEARS, along with just about every handset maker worldwide. I think Apple just doesn't have the time or patience to put forth the effort.

Or no, since many countries use CDMA as well.

Read the firrst two sentences in the article. It says 80% of the WORLD USES GSM! Three Billion people. This is why apple does not have time for CDMA.

Lots of third world cell users don't translate easily into smartphone buyers. Especially when the phone works best with 3G coverage, it requires a home computer to re-register if they do a recovery, and the data plan costs nearly as much as a family's income in some countries.

This is why apple does not have time for CDMA.

Apple spent a year trying to make a deal with Verizon before giving up and running back to Cingular. I'd say they've ALREADY PROVEN that they have plenty of time for CDMA.

The question is, do the CDMA carriers have an interest in it any more? Sometimes I think the ATT "exclusive" is just a PR stunt to hide a lack of desire on the part of Verizon.

I would never get verizon for any phone.... but that is just me. its too much of a rip off.

again IMO

My opinion is very close to yours, I have a black 16GB iPhone 3G and I also had the 8GB iPhone 1st Gen (retired to shelf), I am very pleased with AT&T and would not consider switching.

Hey folks, ever heard of a CMDA/GSM phone? There is such a thing, after all...several models of the BlackBerry have exactly such dual-network capabilities. While I do not see a CMDA-only iPhone anytime in the future, I DO see a CMDA/GSM iPhone. You heard it here first.

Apple would be dumb not to bring it to VZW. They are the largest (and best according to Consumer Reports and JD Power & Associates) network in the US. Why wouldnt Apple want to expand their market share? It really is not that complicated for Apple to make an iPhone with a CDMA radio in it. For all we know, Apple bought out their one year contract with At&t so they could bring it to VZW. No one really knows. All I am saying is that it would not be totally crazy for Apple to do it!

Why does this go on?
Apple is never going to Verizon, just simply......not going to happen.

i hope verizon never gets the iphone.

i had verizon for a few years.. worst cell phone experiences & terrible customer service. i was also paying a huge bill for a piece of **** phone.

now i have an iphone AND a lower bill

for those who don't have one.. you have no idea what you're missing. no other phone even comes close

The same can be said for "X" cell phone service and "X" Phone handset.

I can't stand AT&T, and I don't quite think the iPhone is ready for the big time power users yet.

of course apple is eventually going to verizon apple would be dumb not to just think how huge the iphones marketshare will grow once Iphone gets here besides there are talks of a CDMA iPhone because other countries in asia and other around the world that use CDMA to.

Now read your last setence and tell us you are not green with envy because your great verizon dosen't carry the iphone. If the iphone is not ready for you "BIG TIME POWER USERS" at Verizon, why are you even here?

Or, relax because:

a) I am not a Verizon user, I am the oh so horrible Sprint.
b) I was commenting on another poster that simply said, "I don't like this service provider and I think the iPhone is great!" and how mentioning personal opinions to cell providers won't go anywhere since we've all had different experiences.

c) I would never simply leave it as "Power User" since one could use all the features of the iPhone for business use everyday and be called a power users while another soul wouldn't find any use in it since it can't open/edit/send via bluetooth any kind of word/powerpoint/excel document, or various other things the iPhone can't do.

d) Personally speaking, I am not tied to any one carrier at all. I'd dump Sprint for AT&T in a heartbeat simply to get the iPhone and put up with whatever AT&T throws at me including their crazy prices. I'd love to have the iPhone, but I am not paying $200 to leave just yet, I want to see what this Pre has to offer, and I really want to see if the iPhone does cater to those users looking to edit docs on the move since I do that quite often.

Lastly, the only thing really holding me back from the iPhone is the lack of insurance on the device, and the knowledge that I will be an klutz and drop my phone, probably in the water. Knowing that I will do such a thing, keeps me from owning a phone that doesn't protect itself from me. Also, for some odd reason people in Baltimore love holding people up (at gun point) for their cell phones. When the Treo was taken, I just called, paid $50, got a new one in 3 days. :)
