Several OSX crashes (maybe 4) for me (BBOD), 3 weeks of usage. When not crashing is an amazing machine.

First Mac Ever and its been flawless. I couldn't be more happier. People will always complain ):

My i7 15" is doing some cool ****:

Poor battery life for me even although I became a sudden expert in switching everything off (bluetooth, keyboard etc) and commited myself to non flash websites.

Didnt want to have to put up with that for £1500 so logged a support call with Apple and they got me to return the laptop which I did and was refunded.

I wish we could somehow get all the owners of 2010 MBPs to vote on this, maybe then people would shut up about them needing a refresh because of all their supposed hardware problems. Probably lower the amount of useless threads by a quarter.

That was exactly what I had in mind. I think it's best to have a large, well-responded thread with a poll in order to give us all a clear and accurate picture of how prevalent these problems actually are.

ncidentally, I find it annoying that these polls never have an option "I don't have the computer discussed here." I'm sure that skews the results to some extent.

I don't see the point of including such an option - if you don't have a 2010 MBP, then don't vote. The poll is meant for owners of that machine only.

Thanks should go to the original poster for putting potential MBP buyers' minds to rest about any possible problems. Thanks original poster!

No problem. :)

Got my MBP 15" i7 a few weeks back. No issues at all. Battery life is long enough for me not to notice it (usually 4-8 hours depending on what i do with it).

I briefly called into an Apple retailer this afternoon (no proper Apple store where I live). A 15" 2.4 i5 was on display for people to try out, so I played around with it a little. I opened safari, iMovie, iPhoto, quicktime and a couple of other apps to force it to switch to the nvidia card, and then I unplugged it. It indicated about 5h 15m of battery time remaining, which I guess is acceptable given the dedicated GPU was activated, and that the display brightness was at around 80%. The system ran fairly cool throughout, even when I had four yes > dev/null processes running in terminal for about a minute.

I have to say I'm fairly impressed. I guess I just got to see one of the good ones (roughly 70% so far in the poll).

seems that 30% of forum users are having problems, thats high, even for a REV A product, glad i opted to wait for rev B now :D

That being said, the users on this forum are looking at the very minor details of everything and that the issues affecting ~50% of the users could be considered opinions. By the way, don't expect a Revision B. The fact is that all the issues regarding the MBP are too minor to expect a rehaul of the MBP line. (At least until the next upgrade)

i wouldn't call intermittent lock ups or the base of your computer being hot enough to burn you testicles minor issues. when i say rev b, i mean a revision of this architecture, not an upgrade as such. there will be a bump before sandy bridge, i guarantee it.

I had several freezes in Boot Camp my first few days, but nothing since changing video card drivers. So put me down for the "no problems" category (knock on wood)

Just have one minor gripe about my new MBP, faulty spacebar. Luckily it is getting fixed tomorrow, so after that hopefully no more problems

I still think the poll is flawed, it really doesn't give an accurate picture of the situation. if anything, you probably should have put 2 options, the first being "My MBP has a definite hardware problem that can only be fixed by a revision. (I got a lemon)" or "No problems, at least none that are worth mentioning"

Hi there,

Have finally switched over from a PC to the Mac and my experience so far has been terrific.

I purchased the Macbook Pro 15" first, bit of a wait for the new model to come out which was frustrating, however was able to snag a new Macbook Pro within days of them coming out. I am thoroughly impressed, have no technical issues at all and completely satisfied. Standby time for the first couple of days seemed to be a bit low, however after a few cycles of recharging it nows turns out to be one of the greatest strengths.

One item I may wish to find out how to do is to find out what specific graphics card I am using at any one time. The concept of auto switching seems logical to save battery, however I wouldn't mind knowing on the fly which is being used at any one time.

Other than that, was impressed enough to go out and pick up a desktop 21.5" Imac with discrete graphics processor. Again, very nice for my use and I like the fact both are so very user friendly in ergonomics.

No matter what product you purchase there is always a very small percentage of users who experience a defective product which with Apple and their warrantee will take care of the hardware. You also get some who don't own the product who give a bad review (trolling competitiors, mal contents), but overall I am quite satisfied and if there were big problems I would be hearing about them from multiple sources. I understand it is quite an investment, but I am happier more with my two purchases than any of my previous perchases in computers.

Good luck on your decision, and good luck in your computing!

Ciao.

Threads like this makes me want to cancel my CTO MBP order before it is being shipped and get one from the Apple store so it is easier for me to exchange it should things go wrong. But on the other hand, I really do want the High res glossy screen! Gosh, what a dilemma! :(

So what's the case with a faulty CTO machine? Will they not exchange it on the spot? I mean, order a new one for you.

I get 6-8 hours with almost full brightness and airport on with multiple safari windows open, adium and itunes open and ical open. You should probably take your laptop in. Sounds like a faulty battery.

+1

I get hours of battery life without trying to conserve, the screen is perfect, no freezes and the computer gets warm.. never hot. I love it.

They will, its just that the whole process of exchanging will take somewhere between 10 - 12 days since you cannot just pick up a replacement at the local apple store. Not to mention that there is a possibility of getting another defective MBP which in turn will take another couple of weeks to exchange.

I'm mostly very happy with mine (15" i7 500GB and 8GB). It is fast and runs most things perfectly. I do have to say that I have been very dissatisfied with the battery life. Maybe I have one of the bad ones. I assume the Apple Store can take care of this for me, although it's almost 2 hours away. Next, Parallels has been having problems because, as near as I can tell, there are some bad sectors on my hard drive or something like that, but I am doing my best to completely free myself of the Windows virus, so that might be a blessing in disguise.

Time to call the Apple Store to see if they can put in a new battery.

My new i7 is perfect, other than the (strange) fact that the left speaker holes are not perfectly lined up. It's okay though, kinda like a birthmark :D

Interesting results so far - 2/3 happy with their MBP, and 1/3 reporting a problem of some sort. Would this be an unusually high rate for a new revision of MBPs? I'm kinda tempted to hold out till the next revision, or at least till the next update to 10.6, which might implement software fixes to some of these problems.

You forgot to include "yellow tint" in your multiple choices, that's why the "Other" category received so many votes.
