Yep. 8 years ago. Purchased after college. Admittedly, it was for the aesthetics but I came to love OSX. I have a Win7 VM for Windows Solitaire - the only useful thing windows can do for me. Being the family tech guy, I refuse to help in buying a new computer unless it's a Mac. 😛

Now why can't I get there? I still find myself helping out buddies with Windows stuff...Slowly but surely they are starting to get the idea about Macs though🙂

I'll be making the switch from Windows to Mac later this year, can't wait 😀. I do think I'll use Boot camp though, as there are some windows-only program's I have to use for college.

I share everyone's jubilation and gratitude. Been using MBPs for 4 years, started on Windows with 3.1. I have two MBPs now and I'm struggling to not get a new retina.

But I would reconsider using Boot Camp. I started with it a few years ago then switched to pure Fusion. I run Win7 (which takes surprisingly little RAM) so I can occasionally use SQL Server and VStudio, and some other windows only apps. It's flawless, allows me to share files between OSes when they are running at the same time. Very convenient.

Another nice feature is being able to take your VM file with you. I recently upgraded to ML, lost all my backups on a stupid error and had to do a clean install. For some reason I keep my VM backed up on an SD card (don't ask). Sure enough on the rebuild Fusion used it without complaint.

This was most certainly not similar to my first reaction. For the first two week it was always "WHY Da F DEOS THIS NOT WORK LIKE WINDOWS/UBUNTU!!!!????". There was an adjustment period, but now I think OS X ML is my favorite OS, certainly the it's the one I spend the most time on, but it won't replace Ubuntu for running a development server anytime soon. It actually has replaced windows for most of my gaming, except for CS:go, but only because it's horrid with a track pad, and if I'm going to hook up a mouse I might as well just boot my windows box and sit at a desk, and break open some scotch, and get angry.

There are still things that are better elsewhere. Finder is no replacement for nautilus, and I still miss what can be done with Compiz, and Spotlight is no match for gnome.do, or even Ubuntu's default search not even close. I even think that the windows start menu search is a bit better at this point.

Over all the best thing about switching to OS X is that the number annoyances is quite low compared to the competition, things like not having to open xorg.conf or mess with buggy beta video drivers, or getting nagged by Windows update once a week. That makes it worth it.

First, that was a good post, I enjoyed it.

But you reminded me of the only problem I've had with ML. Apple dropped the drivers for the Rocket USB 3.0 (RF-HD3025) enclosure. Sure enough I use two to back up my MBPs. I spent a few days on this and spent time at the Genius bar (which is another great, free feature of owning an Apple product). The Apple techs wanted me to send my laptop out for ~$800 repairs. I didn't do that because my old Maxter external USB 2.0 drive worked fine as did ever other USB device I could find, and my other MBP that is still on Lion works with these enclosures just fine.

I posted here about it and someone told me that Apple dropped the drivers and that's why his enclosures quit too. Life is not always perfect when you team up with Apple, but it's a lot better than I've ever had it with anyone else.
