I have something to say about the removal of the headphone jack from the new iPhones, but rather than take this thread about the removal of the headphone jack from the new iPhones OT, I shall create a separate thread where we can discuss the removal of the headphone jack from the new iPhones.

He just really wants attention and drama. It's typical for someone who will be switching to Android but still lurks on the iPhone forums.

Whatever Apple wants. They did research, and the result is that I want haptic. (BTW, what is haptic? )

So there's no room for the aux jack, it isn't that the jack is outdated. If Samsung can put a bigger screen, more RAM, an expandable storage slot and an S-Pen into a smaller form factor (Note 7 v iPhone 7 Plus), then Apple's design is at fault.

Dropping the jack is probably because Apple want to get as many iPhone owners as possible to buy Beats Audio wireless headphones and speaker systems...

No. They did this as a sad substitute for innovation. In other words, if you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with BS.

I'll bet you people are actually exited about not having a headphone jack.

Nah. I don't to pay more for inferior audio quality.

It's ok, my friend. Not everyone can afford to buy nice things like new iPhones. Maybe someday, if you work really hard, you'll be able to afford a new iPhone.

No, I'm excited for what they can use that space for instead of reserving it for an outdated technology that has been replaced by something superior.

Apple have removed a lot of things as they look to the future there will always be unfortunately a transition period
Apple has the market share and power to lead such things.
For me the removal that's annoyed me the most was the removal of the DVD drive from MacBooks! Really begrudged upgrading to the new one that didn't have a DVD drive. In the end did I actually miss it? No not at all.
As for the headphone jack it needs someone like apple to do this in order to force the hand and make the manufacturers come up with better wireless audio.
End of the day 9 out of 10 iPhone users prob don't care about the sound quality of music over wireless or headphones.
If your an audiophile then really should you be complaining about music on a phone I would of thought if you that into music and sound you have a dedicated music player for lossless.

If Apple would just adopt aptX and aptX HD like the Samsung Note 5 then you could have Superior Audio quality without loss or lag or low quality. As Walt Mossberg said the W1 chip does nothing to improve audio quality.

So if you want 192kbps 24-bit you get a 3.5mm jack or a device with aptX or aptX HD

AAC is just fine. It's as good as aptX in practical application, based on what was coming out of Apple's 3.5mm jack.

Wireless audio is most definitely inferior, as an audiophile who works in music I cringe to listen over Bluetooth.

My point is that you haven't yet heard what the audio quality is like via the Airpods or courtesy of the W1 chip. At this stage, nobody is entitled to an opinion on the sound quality of tech that isn't yet available.

The W1 will help latency issues but I highly doubt it does anything at all for audio quality, if it does I'll be first in line to buy a pair of buds with a W1 chip....but it will not be those God awful AirPods

I ordered a pair of beats solo3 headphones that came yesterday. They don't seem as skewed towards bass as past beats headphones, and have a nicely balanced sound IMO. I'll be going to a week-long conference week after next and am looking forward to see if they have as long battery life as claimed.

Between having them and knowing I'll get an adapter with the phone for any other uses I voted for taptic engine.

Is there anyway to enable haptic feedback during typing with the new OS/phone? I've wanted that feature forever.
