I didn't upgrade because:
1) My 3G works fine, and would rather upgrade when my 3G is hanging on by a thread.
2) Could care less about compass, video, and voice control. Had them all before (besides compass) and never used it.
3) Without multitasking/backgrounder, the extra speed and ram mean nothing to me (and don't wanna jailbreak again). I'll take the extra 3 second load times if I save $400.
4) Last but not least: i wanna save my $$$ for whatever they announce next year. When I upgrade, I want it to be as big as it was for 2G owners going to the 3GS

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_0 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7A341 Safari/528.16)

Didn't upgrade because it seemed like a minor upgrade and isn't worth the extra cost this year AND next year when I want the better 2010 iPhone.

well for me the iphone 3GS has only 3 new features i cant get on my iphone 3G
1. Better resolution, better focusing camera
2.Voice control
3 Compas

I think next year, the people who bought the iPhone 3GS will be kinda bummed that they didn't wait.

This year I sold my 16GB 3G for 425€ and I'm going to buy the 3GS for 500€. Next year if I want to upgrade I'll do the same thing. 75€ a year for the new iPhone seems pretty good value for me.

I mainly didn't upgrade because I'm not eligible until 2010. Also, it really didn't seem worth it to pay the unsubsidized price for this iPhone. Seemed just like any other standard electronics upgrade, they just made the existing one better without doing anything drastic.

I am still using the orignal issue iPhone that I bought on the very first day it was released. Still works great, and with the software upgrades, even more useful than before. Sure all the new stuff is great but I don't really need it. Besides I have stereo BT with a dongle that works great and that takes off even more pressure to upgrade. So when something bigger to upgrade to appears I'll be inclined to consider it.

I've been around computers since the the IBM PC XT and Mac SE days so it takes somewhat more to impress me these days.

Well, aren't you special.

Well, aren't you special.

Well, yes I am. I've seen alot of stuff come and go in the personal computing field over the years and I've plunked down more thousands of dollars than I care to think about for computers that went obsolete the minute you took them down from the shelf. While you yammer about how wonderful a compass on the iPhone is, I grew up navigating about the world by which side of the tree the moss was growing.

Can someone tell me what the point of this thread is?

We all are now familiar with the differences between the 3G and 3GS. Whether or not that difference is enough for you to upgrade or not is personal preference. End of story.

Happy I upgraded

Well I was skeptical that upgrading to 3G S would be worth it but having done so yesterday I'm glad I did. Why? 1) With the bigger hard drive space I can now put my entire iTunes collection on it; 2) It is certainly much faster and snappier than my 3G. I didn't notice how much of a difference there was when I tested a 3G S before but using the apps that I normally use I can say there is a big difference; 3) video recording - I don't see myself using this a lot but it's a nice feature to have.

Basically, if you can upgrade at the lowest price today I'd say it's worth it. If you're stuck waiting until December or something I'd probably just hold out for next year's upgrade.

Didn't we have this thread last week?

This is just going to turn into a divided thread. One group saying they are best waiting for the 2010 iPhone or that the 3GS is not a worthy upgrade. The other group will say the non-upgraders are just jealous and in an attempt to justify their newly signed 2-year contract and unsubs iPhone price, will just say that the first group is displaying sour grapes just because they are not eligible (or can't afford the premium price) to upgrade.

Upgrade. To what ? It's the same phone. If I want pictures and video I get my tz7 out. Voice dialing wow there's an app for that ;).

Must admit I'm finding it hard without the compass tho.
