I plan on getting the Otterbox Defender as soon as it is available. It may not be the sexiest case around but it does the job. I've had one since day one on my iPhone 3GS and it still looks as good as the day I got it.

How would you know? When was the last time you saw your phone!? Get the point?

The glass sure is sexy, so it's a shame I'll also be covering the phone up with an Otterbox... maybe a Defender, but I'm leaning towards a Commuter. I have a Defender on my iPod touch and find it too bulky, too prone to picking up lint in my pocket, and too much of a hassle to put it in and out of my pocket.

I've got a bumper on mine and a Invisible Shield on the way. Reading about the shatters though, I'm thinking Otterbox Commuter as well. Hell, maybe I'll put the invisible shield on it THAN put it in the Otterbox Commuter case ...

Have you got a picture of the otterbox? I keep on getting an internal error on their site.

Can you remove the plastic back from this case? I'd like to pick this case up and it would be nice if the plastic was removable so I could take it off if it starts to look bad.

I don't think so. It's sort of inset into the rubber. Plus if you did that, you'd just have a bumper!

It's thicker than a bumper though, obviously, to accommodate the plastic part which I'd say is about 4 or 5mm thick.

I don't know how it compares to the Invisible Shield, but the Commuter (and the other Otterbox cases, I believe) include a screen protector.

I dropped my phone on day 2, landed on the back, bounced, flipped and landed on the front (tile). No scratches, nothing.

I don't expect to be that lucky again, but to say dropping it means certain death is a bit hyperbolic.

I beat the **** out of my 3G- the speck PixelSkin saved my phone many times. I intend on getting it or the Pixelskin HD for this one.

God help me, I'm going to try going with just the Zagg total body shield and the Apple bumper.

Perhaps I should buy insurance? I hate having to buy insurance for something I will probably never drop.

screen film + a squaretrade warrantee - thinnest case on the market.... ;)

I didn't intend to buy a case for my iP4. I've always preferred the naked iPhone look through all the previous generations and this one is no different. But the 2983289 threads/posts about iP4 death stories are very scary. I know for a fact my phone will not go un-dropped until the next iPhone comes out. And apparently it's a one-strike system with the iPhone 4.

So I guess I should start looking for cases. Would the Bumper help prevent shattering? And who else is like me in the situation?

I'm like you my friend. I would love to show the raw phone off, but I too know that it's going to drop. I decided to get the invsishield and the Belkin wrap clear. I'm impressed with the belkin clear wrap.

I bought the reveal originally.. returned it and got the belkin grip vue thingy something..

It's a nice rubbery-silicon case that feels like it would provide nice shock absorption for the phone in the event of a drop..

I purchased this one as well. It looks better than most and it's not bulky at all

By necessity I'm using a bumper so the phone will hold a signal. It looks horrid

In addition how this would protect the phone when dropped is a fantasy. It will protect the edges & corners, but the phone will come to rest on it's front or back. If your standing on cement or pavement the surface debris alone assures you a scratch or more in the glass.

I will drop my iPhone 4 a lot. I've dropped each of my iPhones numerous times, but never resulting in any significant damage beyond some minor nicks, scratches or dents. I've owned cases, but eventually end up going naked--and usually the drops occur when it is naked (or so it seems).

I may go screen protector, but I don't want one that will degrade the screen quality.

I have Safeware warranty on it. Costs me $99 or so. Get $500-$50 deductible in event of loss, theft, or accidental damage. A case would be at least $30. Eventually I'd want a different one in a year--adding to at least $60. Forego the screen protector and I'm saving a total of $75 or so. That's my plan anyways--not full proof, but it is just a phone, albeit a really expensive one without subsidy.

I just remembered that $450 would not cover the full price of a new 32GB, so probably no savings if loss. But worth the advantages of nudity and peace of mind.
