iPhone 6, Space Gray, 64GB: Lost in UPS hell?

So this has been my personal shipping hell I've been wading through.
I received a shipping notification from Apple in the wee morning hours of the 25th of September (purchased phone on apple.com early on the 19th after attempting to wait in line at a local store). The delivery window given was Oct 1-3.

Later in the day UPS updates with a tracking number saying that the shipping label was created, and they were waiting for the package to arrive at their facility. At this point, the Apple store no longer shows any delivery window whatsoever, and I am now simply waiting on UPS to update me with a more precise estimate.

It's now been over a week since I received that email from Apple letting me know my phone was shipped, and UPS still says they are waiting for the package to arrive at their facility for its initial scan (the attached screen shot was taken just a half hour ago). Meanwhile, I was invoiced and my credit card was billed on the 25th.

UPS won't do anything because as far as they're concerned they never received the package. Apple can't do anything until UPS misses their delivery window, which closes tomorrow night. After hours and hours on the phone with both companies I finally have a contact at Apple who I can speak to directly when it comes time for a replacement to be shipped, but again, nothing can actually be done until after tomorrow night.

I know with these iPhone rollouts that sometimes things get jammed up, or they even go through so quickly that they miss scans in certain depots. However, all the orders I've seen that delivered despite 'stuck' progress usually had at least a scan in China or Anchorage to show it was in the system somewhere. It also seems that most, if not all, the orders in the Oct 1-3 shipping window have been received, and many of them arrived early.

Since this phone is tied to my AT&T account my eligibility for upgrade is already used up, so I can't simply go pick up another locally without paying for an unlocked model. At this point all I can do is wait for time to run out, then initiate shipping on a replacement phone. It's a very frustrating spot to be stuck in, and I have zero hope of my phone, or any phone for that matter, arriving even within a week of it's original scheduled date.

I haven't seen or heard from anyone else in this specific predicament, so I figured I'd share my story here.

TL: DR - iPhone never received at UPS according to tracking, Apple can't help me until UPS misses the delivery window. I was billed for the phone a week ago.

I originally ordered my silver 6 64gb on 9/19 from ATT and did the waiting game. It finally showed as back ordered last night. I was supposed to be in the 9/30 to 10/9 shipping group. A rep on the phone last night said I should have it by 10/23. I went to my local Apple Store this morning (they had some in stock) - cancelled my ATT order and walked out with my phone. And I love it.

Did you cancel your Att order once you got to the Apple store or through Att?

I called ATT while I was in the Apple Store holding onto the box containing the new phone. They cancelled my order and reversed my upgrade lock so the Apple rep could process everything on the spot. I didn't want to cancel the ATT order prior to having the new phone in hand in the event Apple ran out of inventory on my drive over. The Apple reps were very patient and accommodating. I was smiling when I walked out the door. Now I just have to wait for my Vaja case to be made and shipped . . .

I see some of the Apple stores around here have the 6 SG 128GB in stock. Tempted to pick it up in store and switch over to AT&T. Had them before and liked the service, but the price of their plans is too much for what I'm getting. Just unlimited Talk + text + 1GB data is going to cost me $65 a month (and that's before taxes), and unfortunately the Apple store doesn't offer Next to new customers. I guess I'll just wait for T-mobile to ship my device.

Orders take long

So I ordered 3 6+ 64 GB phones, 2 Silver and 1 SG. The 2 silvers have shipped and I got one today and the order shows up tomorrow, the SG though has been sitting in processing since our order was placed. Is the SG in high demand or are they having problems producing them?

Apple does offer "the next plan" as long as your a new customer

New iPhone launch or no new iPhone launch UPS handles billions of shipping arrangements on a large scale basis so its still pretty bad that this happened.

Has anyone experienced a shorter delivery time than what you were given? I just placed my order for a 6 Plus and I'm hoping I don't have to wait an entire month.

Very true.

I mostly just gave that as a 'benefit of the doubt' statement, but I think at this point it's pretty certain that something went very wrong with my shipment. Apple has been trying to keep me optimistic about it simply showing up at my door, but I think that's mostly so I will stop trying to contact them or UPS about it until the delivery window closes.

I find it hard to believe that scans would be missed at every single depot along the way. I'm also pretty sure that something should have updated in the UPS system over 8 days time, especially when everyone posting tracking info shows the phones moving from China to Kentucky in 2-3 days. So this isn't a problem with not giving the system enough time to update as it jets across the globe. This package is just not coming.

On the bright side I only have 21 hours left before I can make Apple send me a replacement. From what I understand even that process is going to be complicated, and most likely will require getting back in line for a shipment from China (even though there is stock at an Apple store 2 minutes away from my house). I'm just ready to be done with this whole thing, and actually have an iPhone 6 in my hand for the first time.

One thing I will say about this whole ordeal, Apple has excellent customer service. Even the people who told me they couldn't help me made me feel better about the whole ordeal. UPS, on the other hand, is terrible. I sat on hold for over 45 minutes waiting for a rep, only to be told I had to talk to Apple before being abruptly disconnected with no recourse. Apple: yes, UPS: no.

Stuck in UPS hell--suddenly in transit!?!

So this is interesting. Literally right after airing my dirty laundry on here I reload my UPS page to find that, against all odds, my tracking has been updated to "in transit." At least the first entry seems to be manually made since it simply says "China." Not sure what that says about the legitimacy of the Louisville entry and its timestamp.

If it is accurate, then I'm not sure why it still shows Oct 3rd as a delivery date since it will need to move from Louisville to the West Coast, get sorted, and placed on a truck for delivery in the next 3 hours or so. Last time I checked the flight alone is at least 4 hours long. I will be shocked if I don't have to wait out the weekend for this phone.

On the bright side I apparently have an actual phone on the way, so there is a light at the end of the tunnel even if UPS makes me sweat it out a few extra days. I'm going to have to compare serial numbers on the phone that arrives to the one on my printed invoice. If this really is the exact phone I ordered it must have had quite a journey, and I'm sure its sudden appearance is thanks to Apple pounding down some doors.

Don't hold your breath dude. You may be lucky to get it on the date that apple gives you. understand that China's preorders are now mixed in with the mess and you can bet your ass apple will fulfill those orders before someone that ordered the phone 3 weeks after it opened the doors for orders.

Stuck in UPS hell--right back into the black hole

Just as I suspected, there was no way it would deliver on the 3rd. Seems someone is specifically seeding my tracking page to make it look like I have a package in the system. At this point I wouldn't be surprised if it showed up in China again soon.

My guess is that someone in Louisville printed up a copy of my label and scanned it just to get something showing in the system. Now I won't be able to ask Apple for a replacement tonight because of this random blip. I currently have no idea when or if I'll get a phone. All my options to fix this with Apple were contingent on UPS staying silent for 18 more hours.

Ordered a 6 SG 64gb on the 19th and have absolutely nothing so far. Hoping things start moving today.

If you ordered a 6 and not a 6 Plus then you should call apple and ask what the hold up is for. I've read of people ordering 6's and within 3-4 days its on its way already. The 6 Plus' are the phones that are taking long.

I should have clarified. It was a 6, but ordered through AT&T website. It's been a nightmare.

I've thought about canceling. But I am afraid after waiting for two weeks . . . that thing has to ship soon!! Thanks!

I bet you'll get it within a week or two or so if you cancel and order directly through apple.

Many people seem to have it on its it way to them within a few days.
