According to UPS, my iMac has now arrived in Colorado and is set to be delivered tomorrow. I've had experiences in the past where they delayed delivery by a day at the last minute so I'm going to try not to get upset if it winds up being delivered on Thursday.

I purchased a pretty high end Dell laptop back in 2010 because I there was software exclusive to Microsoft that I required. Of course four months later the software was made compatible with OS X. To say I've regretted my purchase of my Dell is an understatement. I've been intending to replace it for the past three years, but just haven't brought myself to do it until now. I disliked it so much that I never got a monitor for it, and have been using the 17 inch screen on the laptop itself. While that's workable, it's really not a satisfactory experience.

Some of the keys came lose on the laptop and my then four year old son proceeded to remove four of those keys. It's a good thing he's cute!

One would think a Windows machine going slower over time would be a cliché, but the fact is that's exactly what's happened with my Dell. I have reinstalled the operating system a few times and that would improve the performance for a few months at best, and then I'd be back to square one. Quite frankly, performance really would continue to depreciate after a couple of months of moderate improvement from a reinstall. Some of the housing of the machine came lose on the sides so I suspect this has allowed an unusual amount of dust to get sucked into the internals of the laptop, causing thermal issues and attributing to much of the decline in performance.

It's going to be great to end my almost 4 year hiatus with Mac OS X and have a system that will completely change my entire workflow for the better. Not only does OS X now have to software I need for work, it actually has a better version along with other significant strengths that will be huge improvements for me. Combine that with a huge increase in performance and my work flow will be night and day better!

I really hope I get this thing tomorrow and trouble free at that!

Need some advice...
Okay my refurbed 2012 27" iMac i5 with 3TB Fusion Drive and 16GB arrived last week. I've been working with it and am debating whether or not to return it. The only thing making me a little nervous is that I still periodically get the spinning beach ball. I've got about a week left in my return window.

Due to my educational discount I could get the 2013 27" iMac with 8GB and 3TB for about $125 more...

I'm going to get Applecare for whichever model I settle on.

From my understanding the main differences between the two models are faster Wi-Fi, Haswell v. IvyBridge and that's it...

What should I do? Thanks..

I would have gone with the new one because it is only 125 dollars more for it and you know it will work when you get it and it does come with a warranty too!

Okay, so I'm posting from my new iMac. This thing is HUGE! Naturally I have a lot of crap to install on this thing. I can't wait to be entirely up and running!

Amazing!

So I have to tell you this story. I got the refurbed 2012 i5 base with 3TB Fusion drive last week. The first day I had to call Apple tech and reinstall the OS. After that it was okay. I ran a diagnostic, DriveDx which said that the SSD was bad... I don't know whether the software is crap or legit but it made me nervous. So I decided to return the refurb...

I get the local Apple Store tell the guy and he says "Wait a minute.. I'm sorry you had to go through that..."

He comes back and offers me a BRAND NEW 2013 3.5 GHZ i7 with 4GB GTX78M with the 3TB Fusion drive!!! I was floored!!! Of course I was extremely grateful, took it and ran out the store before he changed his mind! :)

So according to Apple's website... if I had purchased the same model it would have cost another $650!

I'm still in shock! As my wife said Apple has just guaranteed my customer loyalty for the next 20 years... :)
Thank you Apple!!!!!

That's Awesome and also why I bought brand new also I do not want to deal with chance problems on a used machine, that's for sure.

Received my 27" custom iMac last week and the initial setup went well - it took about four hours to restore my backup to the new machine.

Couldn't have gone better.

Unfortunately, I totally screwed it up the next day trying to migrate a boot camp partition from my old MacBook. Apparently you can't move an instance of Windows using WinClone if it was an upgrade of Windows 7 to 8 and it was part of the $20 "upgrade" deal that Microsoft had a year or two back (which is limited to the machine the upgrade was originally done on). I ended up totally hosing the Bootcamp partition and had to spend most of Saturday trying to figure out how to restore the Fusion drive to a single partition using the command line and then had to restore from the backup again.. I ended up having to buy an entirely new Windows 8 license to get Bootcamp working. Also, Microsoft insists that you can only download the 64-bit ISO from a 64-bit Windows machine, which meant that I couldn't use my existing 32-bit partition to download the ISO that I legally bought. I had to seek out a 64-bit machine to download the software!

Couldn't have gone worse.

Have to say I'm working on this new (unexpected) 2013 i7 27" and this monster is FAST! This thing is way faster than the 2012 i5... I didn't expect the speed differences...

I am SO thrilled! :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

The long stalking process has ended, and I've ordered this 27" iMac:

• 3.5GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7
• 8GB RAM
• 1TB Flash Storage
• NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M 4GB GDDR5

Estimated delivery in one week. Quite excited!

Making the switch

I've made the decision to move to Mac! Been a tough decision to make, mostly because I hated iTunes on my WinPC. I've finally come to grips with it though. I'm ordering my iMac today.

27" iMac
3.5GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.9GHz
8GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2X4GB
1TB Fusion Drive
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M 4GB GDDR5
Apple Magic Mouse
Apple Wireless Keyboard (English) & User's Guide
AppleCare Protection Plan for iMac
AirPort Time Capsule - 2TB

Little bit nervous about migrating stuff over, but I'm sure it will all go well. All I have to do is speed learn the new OS, so I can teach my wife. That will be my biggest hurdle, she is not very good with tech stuff.

Wish me luck!

I'

Little bit nervous about migrating stuff over, .

Wish me luck!

Should be easy, follow Setup Assistant's prompts when you start it up for the first time and follow the directions. Migrating is pretty seamless. In addition you will have 90 days of free AppleCare telephone support you can use so don't be bashful if you run into problems.

2 more days before mine hopefully gets delivered though a little weird that it departed Sacramento, CA last Tuesday and FedEx has not updated it or anything since then and it has been 5 days now?

I found a late 2012 27" i5 base on craigslist for $1250, and ended up paying $1100 (no tax!) for the computer, keyboard, mouse, and SuperDrive ... Oh, and a 3 year AppleCare protection!

I updates it to mavericks and did a clean install. My only problem was the clean install erased the iWork and iLife suites and I'm currently working with apple customer service to get those programs back for free.

My iMac is finally out for delivery!

I can't wait for it to be delivered I hope it will be delivered pretty soon like this morning or early afternoon I can't wait for it! It will have been a week since it was shipped last Tuesday! I am very excited to have my first iMac!

Congratulations! I hope it arrives for you soon as well! Getting the delivery is an amazing experience, let me tell you. Hopefully you have some way to keep yourself distracted, otherwise the time will go by slowly.

I am now using my mac and doing the migration of all my stuff from windows to my mac and am using my pc right now while it is migrating it all over which hopefully won't take super long! I love it so far and the mac is also updating itself also at the same time.

I bet you are thrilled now that you finally recieved your new Mac! I hate how the migration process takes up the whole screen. Mine moved the stuff to a new user and I had to gain permissions to various folders my stuff was under and then manually move it over to the right folder under the right user. That's a part of the experience they need to work on.
